Well I hadn't seen this one in a while, but I just want to complain about how stupid some people on this website can be.

Your fucking tongue is safe inside your colossally idiotic head where it is free to lie as often as you like. Just realize that no one wants to hear it. I'd kick your dishonest, overwhelmingly self-righteous ass out of my house if you lied there as often and egregiously as you do here, so why do you stick your stupid fucking nose into the air and rattle off that quote every time someone tells you to stop with your nonsense.

Fucking hell, I bet GRRM wants to put a bullet through his head every time one of you dipshits spouts that off.

Hey guys 👋 about a year ago I made a post on here discussing how reddit culture was disheartening for me as a transgender man, and I got some truly wonderful feedback. So here I am again, and I hope you’re all doing well!

I went through some bizarre stuff today.

Early this morning I went to the TrueOffMyChest subreddit, intending to make a vent post about a situation I’m going through. On the front page I saw something that annoyed me — a post criticizing people who drank heavily and condemning “blackout drunk” culture.

Now, I have no problem with the core message here. I am a recovering addict — I fully agree that heavy drinking should not be praised nor normalized as it can bring a lot of harm, especially to those who genuinely have a problem with drinking and who may delay realizing that they do and seeking help because they think their behavior is normal. No objections there.

However, these sorts of posts tend to piss me off because the tone that they take is one that implies drug/alcohol users are stupid, weak, and inferior to people who don’t use those substances. I’ve seen way too many times how those threads become a circlejerk of people feeling superior to those ‘Dumb Junkies’, and I ended up making a brief vent post on the subject. Explaining how while the message was right, the tone taken was wrong and how it wasn’t fair to be so condescending to substance users, and how it certainly would never help anyone to seek recovery.

Hoo boy.

I was called pathetic. Weak. Stupid. Disgraceful. I was called a piece of shit. I was told that I am worse than a pedophile. I was told that I should go overdose and die because the world would be a better place.

Now, 99.99% of the time, I refuse to engage in arguments on the internet. I know that escalating the situation will only lead to me feeling worse and nothing will be accomplished. I’m a firm believer in block + delete + move on.

Today I didn’t do that. Today, for whatever reason, I was pissed off. As someone who has been told to kill themselves probably has every right to be.

I fought back. I responded to the hostility with insults of my own and scathing sarcasm. And eventually when I felt too gross about it, I deleted the post and my comments, wanting to be done with it and feeling overwhelmed by the bombardment of negativity and aggression.

As of recently I have been feeling fucking awful. The mental degradation I have experienced is making some day to day tasks really hard. I struggle to reason and think normally. I have felt panicked, depressed and I have been literally shaking for the past few hours. All the people I talk to over the internet whether I know them IRL or not constantly berate me, insult me, bring up my mental illness and are just generally extremely toxic. I am at a breaking point. I CANNOT keep doing this. Day to day life is just worrying about what they will say next, trying to appeal to them and seem normal so they say "normal" things rather than bullshit.

I hate worrying about this stuff. It is killing me. I feel so awful I can't even describe it. All these toxic beliefs about bootstrapping, bullying helping people build character and such are really having a massive impact on me. These people are NOT mental health experts. Why can they not just be humble and be NICE? If all these assholes were nice they would help WAAAYY more people than with their pseudointellectual rambling.

I cannot put into words how awful I feel. Even someone mentioning they are studying for a degree or are highly experienced in a certain field makes me panic. It just brings up all these memories of these pseudointellectual assholes and the absolute bullshit they have said and how much it has harmed me over the last few years. I thought I should just "man up" and deal with their bullshit since they can be quite tolerable when they are being nice, but at this point I don't even know what to do. My day consists of reading crap on negareddit to try disprove what they said and be able to tell myself they are wrong, but I have been doing this for over a year with no success. Fuck these people. I fucking hate them and want them to disappear off the face of the planet.

I just struggle to imagine how good my life would be if people were just kind. It really isn't much to ask for. Some kind words go a long way. Also I apologise if this doesn't make much sense. I really am not in the mental headspace to be able to project my thoughts into words.

Reddit when a group of trans women beat up a white dude while he’s harassing them: OMG violence is never the answer, why can’t we all just get along?

Redditors getting so lazy lately. Not even trying to dog whistle it anymore smh

serious question because I still don't get it; To me, it's way too large and I can put any gov who controlled its economy in it. Jacques chirac? socialist, he controlled the french economy, same for nicolas sarkozy, even if these 2 are see as right winger in france, they'll be seen as leftist if this bad definition is use, same with hitler (tik history used it to try to prove hitler was socialist with a 5 hours long video)

The average Redditor believes they are some divine combination of Galileo, Bertrand Russel, Robert Christgau and Mahatma Gandhi. They are the foremost authority on all things. Supreme arbiters of all matters. Their opinions are unbridled facts — facts to them being whatever makes them feel warmest and coziest inside. Whatever gives them the strongest hit of moral and intellectual superiority is unassailable truth; and you will believe it too, lest you run afoul of the Twitter orthodoxy and suffer ritual excommunication.

The mob mentality. Jesus Christ. It is genuinely terrifying. Several users on any given post are Agents of Truth. These sentinels of the orthodoxy receive the upvotes for putting ignorant, hateful people in their place. Then the mindless drones come along, see which comments are acceptable and which ones are forbidden, and react accordingly. Those ignorant, hateful people are generally just... people making jokes? Or expressing opinions that are too old-fashioned.

Or just being a little rascally, ya know? You remember how people used to just have fun? When we weren't all tap-dancing on eggshells all the time, terrified someone might think we're not cosmopolitan or cultured enough? When did Reddit become a fucking cathedral? Why is everything sacred? Half of us are in our underwear.

It's just... sad, man. I'm becoming a troll, because nothing else is fun here. The only activity that brings me any joy is fucking with the clowns. I've lived long enough to see myself become the villain.

https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/palu7p/idiocracy_opening_scene/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

So on r/videos the opening scene to this movie "Idiocracy" get posted and everyone was eating it up in the comments so I decided to watch the clip. I was honestly baffled by how bad it was, it sounds like it was something I would have written myself when I was an edgy 13 year old who thought I was the smartest person alive (which was ironically, when I was at my stupidest).

Now I admit: I HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE, NOR DID I ANALYZE THE CLIP FOR ANY LEVELS OF META-SATIRE. So how come I think I'm qualified to post about it? Because I guarantee all the people upvoting and commenting on it did not analyze it either. Maybe in the full movie it turns out to be a massive Inglorious Basterds-esque "making fun of the target audience" type deal. Maybe there's legitimately clever meta-satire in the full movie. I don't know because I haven't seen it and I'm not going to set 2 hours aside to watch it just to make this post. But regardless of whether or not it has any self-aware meta satire, it certainly isn't being interpreted that way by the commenters, and the way it IS being interpreted irritates me a lot.

This comment section is a classic case of people thinking they are smarter than and therefore superior to others for no particular reason other than "I know I'm smart! I must be! I have to be!"

So based off this clip the premise of the film is that stupid people are outbreeding smart people, thus leading to the downfall of the human race. I don't feel like I need to explain how this is obviously an argument in favour of eugenics. "But it's just a joke! It's not meant to he taken seriously!" Well, if it really is just a joke then that's probably totally lost on the comment section, but anyway . . . a joke has to be somewhat based in reality or else it's not funny. The joke simply wouldn't work unless the viewer believes that there is some truth to the statement that stupid people are outbreeding smart people leading to the downfall of humanity. It just wouldn't be funny if the viewer didn't agree with it on some level. This is not presented as an absurdist form of comedy, it's a self-proclaimed satire, meaning it parodies real life

The clip never explains what happened that somehow stopped the "noble and intelligent" traits from no longer being selected for in the 21st century. Maybe you're just not meant to question it, and just laugh at the stupid people.

The concept of intelligent people becoming an endangered species is no doubt a dream come true for the viewer, who perceive themselves as one of these endangered geniuses. Also, interesting use of the word "species", insinuating that high IQ and low IQ people can be considered a different species, with one superior to the other. Yes, I know it's a comedy and not serious. No, that does not invalidate my point.

So we are introduced to our "good guy" couple. They are white, straight, and they both have a very statistically high IQ. They speak in an upper-class manner and they live in a nice house - indicating that they are wealthy. They wear nice clothes. They also don't want children. There are very legitimate arguments in favour of anti-natalism, but the Malthusian "we need to stop humans from breeding to stop climate change" take, which is almost definitely being invoked in the viewer, is a whole separate albeit connected rant and I don't feel like going into all that. (On a side note - if wiping out some chunk of the human race was the solution to climate change, wouldn't it make more sense to eliminate the wealthiest portion of the population? They consume the most resources after all. Funny how eugenicists are intent on stopping some poor farmer in India from breeding when their own carbon footprint is exponentially larger)

Then they are contrasted with our "undesirable" family. They are poor, they speak in a manner often associated with lower class Americans, and they all have low IQs. They wear lower quality clothes. They have a neighbour (another poor "undesirable") who is portrayed as a stereotypical black woman. These people are presented as lesser beings by virtue of their low intelligence and low economic status. They also have a lot of kids. The audience is meant to dislike them.

Is it just me or city subreddits in general are just unpleasant in general (looking at you r/seattle). The people on there in general are some of the most elitist, "holier-than-thou" assholes I've ever encountered. They downvote pretty much everything you post and you can't ask questions because they'll just tell you to fuck off. Everyone on there is pretty much there to bitch and moan about everything, and they rather get into political mudfights than have civil discourse

WARNING: While this post doesn't have any actual animal abuse, there will be mention of it and people talking about how much they want to hurt and kill cats, so if that upsets you, you might want to skip this one.

I've posted about this before, but it's seriously getting mental.

It was brought to my attention after putting up my previous post that r/Dogfree is actually not nearly as bad as r/ifuckinghatecats, its mainly just people complaining about dogs, but nobody advocates for violence against them.

But holy shit r/ifuckinghatecats has gotten way worse.

I need to make it clear, if you don't want to have a cat, that is fine. But despite the rules of the subreddit claiming that they don't support animal violence, they clearly do on several occasions. So here are some examples:

Here is an example I had from my first post where someone mentioned the Omegle cat killer lady, and while that post is now deleted, the comments are filled with people saying they don't feel bad for the cats, basically saying it's good that they're dead.

Here is them complaining about an innocent news article where someone made a table that has a small hole in the center for a cat to put its head through (great idea btw) and someone in the comments legit said that they wish they had a mallet to bash the cats head with, like whack a mole.

Here is a post where they ACTUALLY SAY WE SHOULD KILL ALL CATS at the end. (Imgur link in case it gets deleted)

Here is a post where someone talks about how their cats scratch things up, which is a legitimate complaint, but then go on to say that they will use a spray bottle to deter them, which is fine, but will also yell/scream at, spank (no seriously), and lock in a bathroom for an hour if they so much as scratch them, even if its an accident, which it could be, cats having fucking claws they're going to scratch sometimes don't scream at them and hit them. (Imgur link)

Here is a post where someone claims they wanted to kill a cat because they locked it in a room after it ate some fish they were gonna cook with. They then go on to explain that the cat scratched their lip, which is actually bad right, but then they claim that they want to commit cat genocide. Listen, a cat scratching you is a valid reason to not want a cat, but not a valid reason to want to murder all cats. (Imgur link)

Only on reddit (sometimes via a twitter screenshot of someone dunking on a Fox News viewer) will you see:

"Hey you stupid fucking cuntwaffle, you're as useful as a timex watch in a base 10 time system"

The way these people think the insults would be cutting and brutal is belied by the fact that it wouldn't be delivered correctly in real life, and even if they did, they would be mocked because they are trying too hard.

A reddit-ism that really bugs me.

Every time someone does something offensive on the internet some edgelord in the comments needs to chime in and say "y'all wouldn't have survived MW2 lobbies XDDDDDD" as if listening to small children yell racial slurs is some grand achievement.

Video game lobbies were/are fucking trash. It's just a bunch of idiot losers yelling dumb shit at you. I always just muted that shit.

And wtf is with the word "survived" ??? You think you're some kind of badass cuz you used to enjoy marinating in a virtual pool of toxic loserdom?

I always assume people who reminisce longingly for the "good old days" of idiots screaming slurs in voice chat WERE those idiots.

You know what would happen if you put a "PC progressive" person in a MW2 lobby? They would just mute and/or leave. Like a normal person who doesn't waste their breath arguing with racists online.

No, you aren't a badass, you're just a dick.

Want to signal to the rest of reddit that you’re a responsible gun owner / notice things that plebs don’t notice / understand the REALLY important things?

Any time someone is holding a gun in a picture on Reddit, mention something about trigger discipline!

And here’s the best part: it works on any picture with a gun. If their finger is on the trigger, decry their lack of discipline! If it’s not on the trigger, hurrah! They have trigger discipline!

Please note, this adds FUCKING NOTHING to the conversation.

And if you are getting gun safety advice from Reddit, you shouldn’t own a fucking gun, so it’s not a Public service to point it out all the fucking time.

When a subreddit gets removed because of a fucking mass shooting, why does someone always have to say "but what about FDS or TwoX, they're mean to men sometimes"

Since when is being mean to men on the same level of killing people? Since when has a woman from FDS went on a shooting spree? Since when have they advocated pedophilia? Since when have they advocated rape and bragged about raping people (that actually happened, a mod on an incel site bragged about taking advantage of a drunk girl).

Since when do people care more about 'double standards' than the life of a 3 year old girl.

there is the very patriotic united statians, the type of people you see on r/conservative, generally right wing, thinks his country is the best in the world and do no wrong, exept when the opposing political party is in power of course, also generally more from the rural areas

then there is also the more average united statian redditor, who hates his country very hardly, think it's a third world country, think it's also the most imperialist country, and over exagerate the flaws of it, generally from the big cities

also, there the average european redditor, who hates on the usa because they want to divert from their country's flaws it becomes even more hypocritical when a lot of usa's flaws are the same in their country, generally from big cities, sheltered from the actual problems of their country

like France is like the united states, but even more imperialist and has a lot of flaws that the usa hasn't

for exemple, in 1977 a petition was signed by many french intellectuals to abolish the age of consent, and until very recently, sex with minor wasn't considered rape and the punishments only went to about 7 years, not to mention all the pedophilic content that france produced, and the age of consent is only 15, pedophilia is a way bigger issue in france then in the usa

and you can critizise united statian imperialism, but french imperialism is way worst, still own colonies in america and oceania, and even in the mainland, still colonises britanny, anjou, occitania, and many many others, not to forget what they are doing to western africa, and they still have a lot of involvement in the middle east

TLDR : redditors either think that the usa is worst or the best country, with no place for nuance

(Sorry if wrong sub for this btw, never posted here, I’ll delete if so if someone tells me, wasn’t sure where else to rant about this without getting mass downvoted and deleted or going off topic of most subs I’m in entirely)

Tl;Dr at bottom

Seems whenever I go into a larger sub than the small communities I’m used to 1 of 2 outcomes happens

1:

I’ll get a decent enough reception and few nice replies and conversation

2:

I’ll say something (respectfully always) and get censorship (5 etc) “downvoted” (idgaf about Internet points btw I just find the censorship at -5 and the needless hostile reaction to disagreeing with someone to try to censor them irritating) as others don’t agree and inevitably someone needlessly starting with insults and arguments when they disagree

I usually try to end any hostility or arguments nicely in the interaction (which worked once maybe twice so far, all others just double down on hostility)

Funnily enough I get more “downvoted” (gods it’s a dumb feature, censor anyone who isn’t even trolling 🙄) when I make a joke about Reddit stereotypes being self proving and THIS is where the part of the memes and jokes of this website come from, proving my point

I once brought up that even democrats aren't safe from false accusations and brought up Joe Biden as an example. Everyone in the thread rushed to Tara Reade's defense.

TLDR: Men's Rights activists care more about crushing the awful liberals than protecting the rights of all men.

I correct an SJW on r/NotHowGirlsWork regarding new studies about males:

https://www.reddit.com/r/NotHowGirlsWork/comments/osrod3/lmao_its_over/h6s6cw8?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

It was downvoted obviously because SJWs can't handle something that is uncomfortably against their own narrative. So I posted it elsewhere and just got a "whataboutism" - something Redditors often detest when talking about rightwingers. They themselves do the same thing on different topics.

Like when an ARG popped up and everybody knew it was fake but played along for fun. But now, browsing places like r/RBI they get frothing at the mouth angry if they even suspect something is an ARG and I don't get it. Do people really expect to find actual mysteries on the internet? Wtf?

It's really telling that the same subreddit is full of posts that are like "hm these people are spamming YouTube comments with gibberish--this must be human trafficking codewords!"

It's Qanon shit. It comes from the same place Qanon does.

Then there's "internet mystery" YouTube channels that subtly push the same narrative about human trafficking/satanic pedos/evil government cults that are coming for your children

Please can we just go back to fun art like Petscop or Marble Hornets?
