I’ve hosted, produced and written content for tv, web video, documentary and print for outlets like ABC News Live, HuffPost, The Nation, Salon, Attn;, and many more. I’ve hosted and done many appearances on cable news, podcasts and live events for TedX, Netroots Nation and the United Nations. My communications clients include political campaigns, fintech startups and holistic wellness centers.
As a Senior Reporter/Senior Editorial Producer for Real Vision TV, I developed, wrote and produced a 30 minute documentary about Tesla and a group of short sellers determined to prove it’s a fraud. At Salon I was a host, producer and writer conducting live interviews and creating the "Salon Now" video series. At HuffPost Live, I covered the 2016 election, hosted in studio shows like "Political Junkies" and "Free Speech Zone", and produced and hosted documentary and short form videos. The online streaming network won three consecutive Webby Awards for Best News and Information Channel during my time there.
My other work has included hosting ABC News Live, videos for Attn: about immigration and blue collar workers, as well as writing for The Nation and Splinter about US/Russian relations and opposition activists running for office in Moscow.
In 2011, I made the Forbes 30 under 30 media list. In 2014, I was the host of a Gracie winning special on victims of mass shootings and was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Digital Journalism in coverage of bisexual activists holding a first ever forum at the White House.
Prior to HuffPost Live, I hosted "The Alyona Show" on RT America, which premiered when I was only 23 years old.
My work focuses on a broad range of topics including domestic politics, foreign policy, US-Russian relations, national security, civil liberties and gender equality, among others. Throughout my career, I've interviewed some of the world's most influential and controversial figures, including Senator Bernie Sanders, President Jimmy Carter, General Stanley McChrystal, Julian Assange, Paul Krugman, and many others. I've also interviewed a long list of celebrities and musicians.
In the field, I've covered the 2016 election, Russian politics, immigration on the US-Mexican border, environmental devastation, the opioid epidemic and international events such as the Vancouver and Sochi Olympics, the World Economic Forum in Davos, and the G20.
I've been featured in Cosmopolitan Magazine, Details, Forbes, and others. I've also appeared on MSNBC, CNN, FOX News, Comedy Central, and Fusion.
I was born in Moscow, and am a fluent Russian speaker. I go to the country often for reporting assignments and to visit my family. My mother is Olympic figure skating champion and current Russian legislator Irina Rodnina.
I'm a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz where I studied politics and film and digital media.
I currently live in New York.
