What are the most Bullet/Damage Sponge-y Games?

Title says it all,

I'm" talking video games where its so bad that you dropped the game due to its tedium.

On the flip, was there ever a specific title where you enjoyed the combat so much that you overlooked the tedium of taking so long to defeat even the most basic enemies?

EDIT: Crap I thought you meant bullet sponge as in "a few bullets kill you," not you can take a lot of bullets. And the enemies as well, not the main characters.

I switch mine to Hitman Absolution. If you aren't using bullet time you might as well not shoot at all because the enemies take a few shots to kill. Where you can get killed by like2 bullets, so those few shots count as a lot.

Uncharted for sure.

Also a lot of MMOs are bad for this - raid bosses in particular are nothing but damage sponges where everyone just wails away on them for half an hour until they die. It's insane.

All the Uncharted 1 mentions are funny, because I've only played the demo and that's exactly what came to mind.

It's honestly what kept me from picking it up.

Don't things die in one burst (in the head) using the FAL in uncharted 2 even on crushing  (other than the dude with gatling guns)?

Things also die with a headshot in 1 if I remember correctly.

Borderlands
Especially some of the DLC. Those little witch doctors take a fuckton of damage to down. And those floating sacks of elemental damage too.

I would say Halo and Gears, but both games offer up ways to take down even large enemies in a very few hits, so the level of the bullet-sponginess can really depend upon how well you're using the weapons. But if we're talking center of mass shots from a starter weapon? Yeah, Halo, Gears, Uncharted all fit that bill nicely.

I prefer bullet-spongey games for multiplayer though, as all that extra health/shielding can lead to a lot more push/pull in encounters and help to smooth out the effects of a wonky internet connection.

BioShock 1. The combat in the second half of that game got incredibly tedious.

For some reason (none actually) all enemies got 10 times resistant to bullet at some point. So stupid.

Also, Resistance. Borderlands (well, it's like an RPG so it could be understadable)

Borderlands and co-op in Resistance 2 come to mind. It didn't bother me in either. Nor did it bother me in Uncharted or Gears.

But i'm old so i grew up on shooters that had enemies that could live through rocket launcher direct hits to the face.

Resident Evil 5, even the fodder takes forever to kill. My fucking GOD, I shot you in head! DIE DAMMIT!

Some of the enemies have weaknesses in RE5 if I remember correctly, if you use flash grenade launcher on the parasite enemies, it one shot them, I don't really remember them being bullet sponges.

They also die with 3 pistol shots to the chest in Uncharted 1 and the enemies react to every single shot, how is that spongy? In Gears 1 you have to empty 3/4 of a Lancer magazine to bring down a grub and he doesn't react to any of your bullets, I'm convinced most people don't even know what bullet sponges are.

Its the worst part of all the Bioshocks. At some point all the enemies get buffed. This happens just as you're offered ways to upgrade your damage.

Its honestly infuriating to have to whack a beginner level enemy 4-5 times when a single attack would do the trick in the beginning.

Halo 2 brutes, lol
Were brutes allergic to needle in Halo 2? Needles rip em to shreds extremely quickly in all the other Halos.

Elites (kinda) and Promethean Knights in Halo.

I usually run out of bullets quickly if I actually shoot at them, unless I have a Plasma Pistol, which is why I always have the Catch skull on, so I can assassinate them.

I hear Metro 2033 has a huge problem with bullet sponginess.

I think the NA port of one of the Onimusha games (the fourth one?) quadrupled the health of all bosses for no apparent reason, making ordinarily fun boss fights incredibly tedious.

Wild card!

I remember headshots were absolutely necessary, and on the harder difficulties wasn't it still multiple shots to the head?

Great game tho :p

Borderlands, due to the RPG nature of the game. If you're underleveled, it's bullet sponge heaven! Fallout 3/ New Vegas too, for the same reasons.

Uncharted, especially Uncharted 3. Uncharted 2 as well but less so. And even less so than that Uncharted 1.

UC3 has the worst bullet sponge for no reason than any other recent game that I know of.

I recall STALKER being this way. I shot a guy point blank with a shotgun, and he didn't even flinch and kept shooting.

Uncharted easily. Gears of War fit the game due to the hulking beasts and men; Uncharted were just regular dudes taking far too many bullets to die.

This is true in the Easy, Medium and Hard difficulties. That game is best played in the Ranger modes.

I recall STALKER being this way. I shot a guy point blank with a shotgun, and he didn't even flinch and kept shooting.

The human enemies are fine, but a lot of the mutants can be a real pain.

Gears of War is the first that comes to mind and is the reason why I've never played any of the games in the series. I played the original for around 20 minutes...Nope.

Uncharted is next..

Gears of War has always been the worst for me by far. Nothing even compares.

It has consistently been the worst aspect of the multiplayer since Gears 1. Even with dedicated servers the shotgun is infuriating.

Well headshots never kill in RE. They put the enemy into a stun state allowing you to execute a melee attack on them. and even then at least they react to the shot.

Binary Domain is probably the pinnacle of making body shots fun vs headshots effective

Early game yes. But late game once the accuracy and damage on your gun are upgraded it's way more effective to go for headshots. They give more points and more respect points from your crew.

Uhhhh, I guess technically this is true, but when the point of the game is to get new weapons that do more damage I dont think it really counts!

Well the problem is that alot of the guns feel the same, because no matter what gun you use or what stats you have, enemies still just run straight at you most the time without being staggered or undergoing any other form of hitstun.

Which is usually half of the problem people have with bullet sponge enemies. If feels like your shots aren't doing anything because there's no real visual feedback from the enemies that being shot is hurting them. lol

Love Borderlands and 2 but a friend and I fought the hidden seraph guardian in Sir Hammerlock's DLC(Dexiduous or something) for about an hour last night before finally killing him. Only dropped 4 purples(one was the Chopper) and no seraph crystals.
