Sh-Boom is an early doo-wop song, which is a genre of rhythm and blues music originating in African-American communities on the East-Coast of the US. Sh-Boom was first recorded on Atlantic Records' Subsidiary label Cat Records by the Chords on March 15, 1954. This was their only hit song reaching #2 on the R&B charts and peaked at #9 on the Pop Charts. It also #215 on Rolling Stone’s list of 500 Greatest Songs of All time.

This is considered by most to be the first true Doo-wop song to reach the top ten on the pop charts instead of the R&B charts.

It was also covered successfully in a traditional pop style by The Crew-Cuts. The song was used in the Pixar film Cars.
