CHEHALIS, Wash. - A Western Washington restaurant that fought pandemic restrictions is facing its ultimate end.
Spiffy's Restaurant & Bakery in Lewis County, famous for its pies, cinnamon rolls and coffee, announced it is closing its doors for the last time on Sunday.
The owner posted on Facebook that he can longer stay in business after 50 years.
Rod Samuelson says he's having a difficult time finding workers and getting food deliveries.
Spiffy's, located in Chehalis off Interstate 5, racked up nearly half-a-million dollars in fines while defying the governor's COVID-19 orders.
Those fines were later reduced to $240,000 and Samuelson says the state Attorney General's Office offered to forego the fines altogether, but the governor would not relent.
Samuelson kept his indoor dining open during a time when it was a violation.
