No, it means they're going to give us another update in a year to determine whether boosters are needed.

Yeah would you be able to explain how the 6 month efficacy timetable works? Does that mean the vaccines only protect you for 6 months?

Seeing that the vaccines have been around for only ~6m (including clinical trial period), it's really "at least 6 months". Using other vaccines as a guide, it's probably a *lot* longer than that (potentially years), depending on the limits of the mutations

Yeah but what about after that? So you have to keep getting these things every 9 months?

More data is needed before we know that.

Have there been any studies with Pfizer, regarding efficacy, when you hold off getting 2nd dose to 4 months? Are we still protected?

Please re-read. You’re not understanding this correctly.

You think 6 months is a long time? It's hard to understand CNN because factual info is always buried in a storyline or spin.

Hey we have to be thankful but having said that if it is 6 months -- we'll be barely done with the first round of shots around the US and will have to rinse and repeat

The vaccines have only been available for 6 mo. They will continue to monitor and we will eventually see if we need booster shots.

That’s the amount of data they have! Please read the article

So many people on this thread not understanding what the 6 months means. Since the vaccines have only been around a little more than six months, you can’t have a study that checks for a longer period. My goodness.

It’s truly frightening to see the lack of reading comprehension and critical thinking people have!

Is Moderna doing the same kind of follow up? When can we expect results?

I have seen 2 reports-
"For at least 6mths"
and
"After 6 mths"
Very big difference, can you clarify?

We'll know when they've been around longer than 6 months.

The vaccine is effective for *at least* 6 months. It could be effective for years but we just don’t have that data yet since the vaccine hasn’t been around that long.

Pfizer's assertion that it works "very well" against B.1.351 is disappointing, based as it is on a very small study involving just 6 cases in the placebo group and zero cases in the vaccine group. Effusive praise based on such an absurdly small sample size is irresponsible.

To the thread - it’s only been six months - you think they have time travel, too?

Let the passport double as a voter ID card with photos valid in all states.
Many lack access to a way to get a photo Id. This’ll be an incentive to be vaccinated too!

Forget voter ID. The vaccine passports can just be a vaccine passport. Voter ID requirements are not only useless, they’re unconstitutional and damaging to voter turnout.

some healthcare workers were vaccinated in January. Will there be boosters by June for these folks?
2
This doesn’t mean it stops being effective in 6 months, it just means they haven’t been able to test it past six months since that’s how long the vaccine has been available.

OMG, people! Use your brains, please! The vaccine has only been around roughly 6 months! They can’t have data that stretches longer because it hasn’t been out longer! This is good news! Embrace every bit of good news & SO THE HELL WHAT if we end up getting frequent boosters!

So that’s great news then! That means the effective period of immunity may continue to extend as more data becomes available as time goes on.

My T-Cells are laughing.
With 56 HLA class I and class II epitopes (so far) variants have nearly an impossible task ahead of them.

the answer 4 months later is less than .004% have ANY kind of bad reaction. Less than .001% die from a possible correlation to taking the vaccine
