This is crazy! Japan just reported record #COVID19 cases this week and they are allowing restaurant goers to sit un-masked in close proximity to one another? No wonder the virus is spreading like wildfire in Japan. Is it really worth risking thousands of lives for this??

I cycled to Koenji last Sat night. Main streets were dead, back streets were in full swing. Asking nicely is not going to do it.

They are there so you can tell the government that you did your best to make your place covid-safe, as telling the government that you did your best is the only requirement for getting a covid-safe rainbow poster for your door.

It’s terrible but if the government had been really serious about fighting COVID, they would have cancelled or postponed the Olympics or started vaccinations two months earlier. You can’t expect people to gaman forever.

Ok, but you were also in the restaurant? The virus can’t tell time, there’s no less risk being there before 8.

There’s one restaurant in my village full of tourists every night as it has blatantly ignored the SoE. If I know about it and all tourists in Onna know about it surely the powers that be must? Disgusts me how this particular spot is so money grabbing.

Outrage is tempting but the real takeaway here is limiting free movement is now ineffective at the society level. Time to double down on structural solutions. Plus vaccines of course.

Most of us don’t go restaurant nor clouded spots. But there’re substantial peoples do like that. Because they don’t feel the risk of infection and just concentrate olympic carnival atmosphere in tokyo driven by Tokyo&Japan government.

Restaurants aren’t getting enough financial support from government so for them to survive some owners don’t obey the guidelines and continue to serve alcohol and open past 8pm.

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga says. "The Tokyo Olympics are not the cause of the spread of COVID-19 infection." and Yuriko Koike, the governor of Tokyo, also said, "That's why the Olympics play a role in staying at home." However, Olympic athletes are not responsible.

In Japan, the elite office workers and the elderly are vaccinated, but the ordinary young people are not. And they can't relax with a dinner or a date. This is a problem of inequality and a failure of the government.

The government requires restaurants to operate on shorter hours, but compensation payments are delayed and the amount is not sufficient as ones in other countries. So it's a matter of life or death to the businesses.

After a-year-and-a-half long of on-and-off mitigation, the COVID fatigue pinnacled. Meanwhile, P.M.Suga did not prioritize vaccination to the Olympics, and made no progress. Distrust of authority that ignored the public outcry against the games during the pandemic also peaked.

The authority sets the different rules for the event that he needs for his own agendas like the Olympics. "Enough is enough" is the public sentiment among this historically "compliant" nation. Desperate people do desperate thing even though knowing it as risky, reckless.

Just saying, you were there too, doing the same thing as all these people. You're just as guilty, so it's weird that you decided to shame them.

This picture may look crazy. But in Tokyo, a city of 14 million people, only about 30 people died of corona in July. There are many opinions in Japan, but the fact is that even though the number of infected people is increasing, the number of deaths is decreasing rapidly.

If you are in Japan for Olympic Games you are supposed to be in the bubble. You are dining out. Sad to see that.

If your at risk don’t go out. It’s just that simple. When my wife went through Chemo and her immune system was weakened we didn’t socialize. If your not wearing a mask then your not worried about getting it or giving it. I have my shots and not concerned about getting it
