Peter Thomas Dole PARIS, Ill. - Peter Thomas "Deadshot" Dole, 65, of Paris, passed away at 3:39 a.m. EDT Monday, March 15, 2010, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. He was the owner of Dole Law Offices in Paris. He was born June 15, 1944, in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of the late George V. Dole and Dorothy (Thomas) Dole. He married Becky McCarty on March 27, 1982, in Little Rock, Ark., and she survives.. Other survivors include three daughters, Dr. Polly (Richard Bailey) Dole of Palmdale, Calif., Anna Dole of Chrisman, and Ashley (Cliff) Hudson of Little Rock; a sister, Elizabeth Gardner of Boise, Idaho; and three grandchildren, Emma Bailey, Lucy Hudson and Julia Bailey.. Mr. Dole's life was marked by dedication to his country, his family, his profession and his community. He received his bachelor's degree in History from Dartmouth College. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, denying his college education in order to serve in infantry Special Forces. He served in Vietnam as a radio operator and paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles," later earning two Bronze Stars for his service in the Green Berets. At the completion of his military service he earned his juris doctorate from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. After working two years for the Securities and Exchange Commission, he returned to Paris in 1975, and was elected to a term as Edgar County State's Attorney. In 1980, he entered into partnership with his late father in Dole & Dole Attorneys at Law.. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Paris, where he served on the church board and as a deacon. He was the current City of Chrisman attorney He was a longtime member, board member, past president, and devoted supporter of the Paris YMCA. He also was an Eagle Scout and remained active in scouting throughout his life. He will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who lived to hunt. He was a loyal supporter of Edgar County Pheasants Forever, serving as treasurer for several years, and was active in organizing and hosting the annual Sponsor Shoot and Youth Hunt. His dedication to upland fowl habitat creation earned national recognition. He also was a Life Sponsor of Ducks Unlimited, and was an accomplished racquetball player, back country skier, and cyclist. He especially loved his family, his friends and his dogs.. For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Paris YMCA.. Following cremation, a memorial service celebrating his life will be conducted at 2 p.m. CDT Thursday, March 18, 2010, at Templeton Funeral Home, 600 E. Court St., with the Rev. Cliff Hudson officiating. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 211, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3601. Interment will be private in Edgar Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from noon until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
