Brainerd School District Superintendent Jerry Walseth was named a 2004 Administrator of Excellence by the Minnesota Association of School Administrators.
Walseth was honored for his leadership, concern for students and active involvement in professional and community affairs at a statewide recognition ceremony Thursday in Bloomington at the MASA spring conference.
Walseth was one of nine recipients to receive the award. Recipients are selected by their colleagues within their region. Walseth earned the award in Region 5 which includes, Crow Wing, Cass, Morrison, Todd and Wadena counties.
"A lot of good people do good things," said Walseth. "What do you say (about receiving this award)? The recognition is appreciated."
Walseth has been the Brainerd School District superintendent since July 2000. Previously, Walseth was the superintendent of the Eaton, Colo., School District.
Pequot Lakes Superintendent Jim Oraskovich and Pillager Superintendent Phil Johnson nominated Walseth for the award. Oraskovich said Walseth has been a leader for the smaller school districts and has helped their students receive educational services not available in their district.
The MASA award reflects the esteem of the recipient's colleagues within their school leadership community. A person can only win the award one time in their professional career.
Walseth is involved in many community organizations, including Sunrise Sertoma, Noon Rotary Club, the Salvation Army Board and St. Joseph's Medical Center Executive Finance Committee.
