CDPR’s rise and fall in the public eye feels like yesterday, and yet people have learned nothing about the effects of becoming unpaid PR soldiers for what are ultimately corporations. Long rant here, but I like this community and think this is worth calling out.

Before you freak out, the differences between Sucker Punch charging fans a small amount for a console upgrade that contains clear value vs CDPR fraudulently marketing an entire game are not lost on me. But the lightspeed reflex to call anyone “entitled” and, even worse, itching to tell us how much more you’d pay for this upgrade is absurd.

Sucker Punch and Insomiac might be the industry darlings now, and they deserve that. But should the day ever come when their consumer-friendly policies start to shift, those changes are going to be made twice as bold by reactions like those I’ve seen on this sub following the $9.99 upgrade.

A person who bought Ghost for $60, likely willing to buy the eventual sequel for $70, and happy to buy a cross-gen expansion for $20, is not entitled if they think $10 is nickel and diming the fanbase just a bit. They’re completely aware that dualsense features and Japanese syncing require work. You don’t have to remind them.

The relationship between developers/publishers and consumers is complicated. Verbal support is good, and supporting with your wallet is even better. But it is NEVER a bad idea to keep sellers in check when something takes a step or two over the previous line. If your first instinct when this happens is to call that person entitled, you should seriously reconsider how you function in that complicated relationship.

It’s healthy to call out your favorite companies if something doesn’t sit right with you, just like it’s healthy to give other people’s concerns the time of day. And if Sucker Punch were to somehow walk back the $10 in response to criticism, I want all of you downvoters donating those $10 to the charity of your choice, because you played zero part in making that happen.
