SPOKANE, Wash. - Students in the East Valley School District can expect some changes next year.
Mountain View Middle School is closing. All incoming 7th and 8th graders will attend East Valley Middle School next year and incoming 6th graders will stay at their elementary schools.
Skyview Elementary School students are also transferring schools. Parents will have to choose between sending their children to Trentwood Elementary School, Otis Orchards Elementary School or CCS.
CCS Will take over the Skyview Elementary building and will be able to expand services with more space.
This move will save the school district some money but East Valley School Superintendent John Glenewinkel says it's about moving students from a school with low enrollment to schools with space. Glenewinkel says the transfer has been in the works for awhile, but with the failed 33.75 million dollar bond earlier this year, it made transferring the students essential this upcoming school year.
The district is expecting a 1-2.5 million dollar deficit next year. They will find out just how much they will have to cut after they find out their budget from State Legislators after they complete their special session in Olympia.
