TL;DR: The ripper/bato mod “forfun” encourages and engages in toxic behavior, promoting harassment of an individual who reposted one of their scans group’s chapters (with credits), conveniently forgetting that they themselves have reposted 20,000 licensed chapters without permission.
Bato is a manga website where users can post chapters, including fan translations or rip-offs of official translations. Mangago is an aggregator website that has even fewer rules, but it recently added a feature that lets users upload chapters there too. If you’ve ever been on bato, you’ve probably seen the user “forfun” come up at some point, considering this person has a spot on the front page as a “top uploader.” Based on their profile, it seems that this person has almost single-handedly uploaded all of the smut manga from erenta (an official English translation site that mostly has smut and romance). They’ve uploaded almost 20,000 officially licensed chapters in a little over year to put it in perspective. They’re unsurprisingly a moderator on bato and the “leader” (raw provider) of batoto scans.
Now to the story (I have screenshots of all of this if anyone wants).
I was scrolling on bato and noticed a chapter title (for a smut manga that batoto scans is doing, Tada no Renai Nanka de Kikkonai -Kojirase Joushi to Fechina Buka-) that said “MANGA(FCK)GO CAN GO TO HELL” and was posted by forfun.
It wasn’t a real chapter but a message that read: “If you are not stupid and can read this text, then read our project only at bato or MD. If you can read this but still choose to read on manga(fck)go, means you are dumb af. Shame on you! Fck you manga(fck)go reposter a.k.a. randomgo.”
This message was repeated twice. (by the way I’m changing the accused’s username to randomgo to prevent them from being harassed further, just in case)
They also added a comment on their message post on bato: “ye, you randomgo, i see you. repost this one too to your manga(fck)go website with their warning
how dare you put our work with their warning? fck you randomgo, fck you manga(fck)go.
During the end of March, Hombre hacked Mangadex, causing the devs of Mangadex to immediately close servers and commence the coding of Mangadex v5. For more info about the attack and what’s been going on regarding the site, join the Mangadex Announcement server. However, many scan groups upload on Mangdex and thanks to Mangadex, scans groups were able to come together and become a friendly community, with the exception of a few. It was very civil.
And from the downtime of Mangadex came many sniper scans group.
Sniper scan group: A group that exists and works on series that another scans has already done, usually by cutting in at future chapters.
When you think about it, why do they have to do such? While starting a separate version and starting from Chapter 1 doesn’t count as “sniping” by definition, it still causes stress to both groups. This is a known fact within the shoujo rofan manhwa scans community. They tend to claim that they loved the series so much, thus the reason they work on the series, but you only truly enjoy a series when you’re the reader, not the person actually working on the series itself. After all, there are many series being released these days, so why not respect each other and take another series? Why cause distress?
That’s how Truck-sama Scans was born.
As scan groups were waiting for the return of Mangdex, which was firstly estimated to be around 2 weeks, then 3 weeks, to 4 weeks to indefinite, sniper groups began to pop up. That was also around the time where the original scan groups started opening up their own websites and moving to other uploading platforms in the meantime.
Has anyone been following the bilibili drama? I’ve been looking for one big compilation of everything, but I haven’t managed to find that anywhere. It seems scattered between servers and dm’s
TL;DR: ‘Bilibili’ reached out to scanlation groups about scanlating their series and posting them online. Contracts? Minors?? Ridiculously cheap rates? Two types of contracts, one paid, one ‘fandom’. Also, jk, it’s not scanlators, just translators they want? Outsourcing CLRD and TS to AI? And apparently this was never an official bilibili thing in the first place? Some of these things I haven’t seen much evidence for, and would love to get in the loop. Super lost, if anyone has a write-up that’d be awesome
My group is pretty new and we wanted to pick up a new manga, Onee na Kareshi to Boyish Kanojo. It hasn't been updated in two years so it's a "free" series to pick up but my leader decided to do the polite thing and dm the original group that was working on it. After delays in messages on their part we got this:
Hello there Omomo. Thanks a lot for writing. I'm sorry for my belated reply. My friend commented me abt your offering, and then I read this msg. It's very nice to see someone has interest in Onee na Kareshi. It's like a baby to us. ***]We are interested in a collab. It's great that you can actually handle all ways of edition bc rn we can only provide translation and proofing. We had a collab before for Onee but this group vanished right in the middle of it. So, if you're really willing to commit yourselves. Then sure, we'd love to release this together with you. Please, send all your group info. Website url, official mail you have for this type of exchanges and how you usually handle your titles. Mainly to see how we can match up group styles of release. Another important thing to discuss, is about raw material. We'll you be providing your own raws and edit from there, or do you need to outsource the material?[11:35 PM]***And last, but not least. We're a really small group, and we do not release on a regular basis. We update whenever there's a chance for us, which unfortunately, isn't that often. We take this strictly as a hobby, not a side job. So please, bear in mind, that we might not meet the regular standard there is for release frequency as other groups with more manpower might have. I hope you can understand this.
So we held it to a vote and decided that the deal wasn't for us and they sent us this message after we rejected it:
Well, that's a sad thing to hear. I shall let you know then that we will continue with the project nonetheless, at our own pace. We have raws, translations done up to final volumes and also cleaning done up to several chapters that we were willing to share in case a joint offer showed up our way. Anyways, have a good week and thanks for reaching out.
Pretty sus that they only messaged us all that after we rejected them right?
And then today they uploaded the next chapter of the manga after two years which feels really cheap
Hello, My name is Skrillz and I used to be Co-Owner of Edelgarde Scans before getting banned because I wanted the owner to be transparent. This here is what happened in one crazy long day.
You can go check the credits yourself, but one name you always saw was mine, I was doing all the work and no one can speak against that. NO ONE.
Anyway~ Have fun reading
Keyword: Thoughts, I never did anything and wasn't planning to if he decided to be transparent. My initial DM saying that I've been thinking of quitting scanlation because I'm not being treated fairly, and I'd like Luke to change his ways and be transparent about the money.
I also call him out reminding him that I'm the one who's doing everything and putting all that money in his pockets.
This isn't my first attempt on trying to get access to the AdSense graphs, I've been asking since we got it, and he has ALWAYS denied, every single time. Very unfair considering everything I do.
Unlimited Scans is a group led by a guy called H-Ero, who a few weeks ago already stirred some drama after MTLing and uploading "My Death Flags show no sign of ending", which was already done by Kirei Cake.
Just the other day they decided to pick up "The Villainess Lives Twice" (or "The Villainess Lives Again" officially). Chapter 34 was scanned via MTL, but MangaDex users were happy, so whatever. However, in the comments it was pointed out that Sawateam in fact did not drop the series. They just decided to be more discrete after Tappy Toon licensed the series, so they stopped uploading to MangaDex, where bots would immediately grab the chapter and upload it to aggregators. If you want to read their chapters, you need to go to their Discord server, which then grants you access to their scans after a click or two. However, you can't download them and they have written a script that prevents users from doing so.
Unlimited Scans then decided that it would be quicker to just screenshot Sawateam's chapters, retypeset the translation and change the wording a bit, so they can upload it to MangaDex. Basically like when you copy someone's homework at school.
Either way, apparently some readers grew suspicious and notified Sawateam, who investigated then. They found out that Unlimited Scans stole the translation and retypeset everything. This was obvious because Unlimited Scans kept all the lines where Sawateam were more liberal with the translation, stole the sfx and even the title card, that they recreated from scratch. The results of their investigation can be found here:

MangaDex admins were contacted then, who subsequently removed the chapters.
Heyo, I wrote up this whole reddit post the night after the drama described occurred. However, since it'd just draw more negative attention towards APS and the other group involved, I was asked not to post it publicly.
However, with the most recent reddit post about APS, I've received permission to do so.
Sorry to the other group(s) involved/mentioned as this whole thing has already been dealt with in private.
Hey there, the reddit post about A Parody Scans is incorrect.
Note: This is not meant to attack any individual or group, it’s simply meant to correct mistakes found in a reddit post.
Prelude
So, believe it or not, there has been a lot of misinformation spread around about what A Parody Scans has and hasn’t done. Other’s alleged perception of the group has been an issue for a while, but with the creation of this (x) reddit post, it’s gone too far for me to just sit back and stay quiet about it.
For a bit of information about my viewpoint, I’m a member of APS so I obviously have bias towards the group I’m personally a part of. However, I’ll try to recount what actually happened in the most impartial way possible.
I’ll be providing links and screenshots to back up my claims.
This is going to be a lot, so buckle up.
Presenting you, 2021's shoujo scans drama! What a year to start with a bang. Today, we'll talk about Haevn scans, a relatively new group with many sub groups! Recently, Haevn has been trying to snipe new shoujo manwha, while neglecting their other projects. Let's dive into this drama.
To be able to follow along, I'll present the evidence here
They have clashed with many scans group before. As seen in images 1-5. Images 2 and 5 don't clearly state it's Haevn scans, but it’s their sub groups containing the same staff. They have many sub groups.
Among all of their lost wars, they continue to work for unnecessary hours, uploading their first chapters hours and hours after another scans group claimed it. The reason they claim as to why it takes them so long is that it is because of technical difficulties, each and every time. What possible difficulties could be occurring, for it to happen every time they lose a war? They then claim that they are continuing the series because they had already bought the raws, but the thing is, you don't buy all the raws during speedruns, in case you lose that war. The only instances where it doesn’t matter if you buy all the raws is when you're that sure you're going to win the war. I mean, buying raws support the author is a good thing, but using that as an excuse to continue a series that they have lost isn’t.
Some readers argue to say, it doesn't hurt for Haevns to upload a second version. No scans owns their series. However, one of my sources say that during negotiations, Haevns claimed that the series was theirs, and they had the rights to hand over the series to another scans group even after uploading hours after. Hypocrisy at its finest.
Also, the thing is, why would scans even want to continue uploading on a series that already has someone else working(sniping) on it? The reason why scanlators even exist is to spread stories that isn’t available in their language to their language to readers, because we could very much so stop and we would be gaining more than losing things. If the major reader base is reading the other version, their work is for naught. That is also the reason why many scanlators dislike second versions if the reason isn’t of great importance. If the voluntary work you do isn’t appreciated, what’s the point? So just stop sniping or doing a second version if it isn’t needed if the originals scans group is doing daily uploads on it, Haevns.
Uploading the first chapter first usually shows how much you’re devoted to scans and also hints at the speed you will upload future chapters at, although there are scans that hog every series. If someone just comes in and releases without a care, the original scans #1: experience burnout because another group came in that releases at a slower pace but still threatening. #2: be tired of scans because of thick-skinned groups. #3: just quit because of someone who keeps creating drama and they’re just wasting their time on… scanlations that self-entitled readers who think they know everything that goes behind the scenes trashes on, supporting a group that does mistranslations. Amongst other things I’ll talk about later on.
Going back to how this relates to Haevn, on multiple series, including I Tamed The Beast Well, The Flower Dances and the Wind Sings, I Gave Birth to the Tyrant’s Child, My Observational Diary of Elena Envoy, etc.
On ALL of these series, they uploaded hours after another group’s first release, with the claim of technical difficulties. Also, imagine the headache groups like A Parody Scans, Bored Corona Kids, and Sunny Side Up Scans experience. They won their series fair and square, only to have another group persistently uploading, claiming that they have the rights over that series.
Haevn scans have went to war with some of the same groups like "Bored Corona Kids" and "A Parody Scans" There was a recent drama with "A Parody Scans" over the series "My Observational Diary of Elena Evoy" where they fought with their sub group "Rice Paddle Scans". Someone already make a post about it here
Hey everyone! This sub has very little BL scan drama, but oh boy does shit go down in this corner of the scan community.
For BL scanlators that work on manhwa, moon eclipse_x (abbr. MEX) is probably a scan you've heard of before! They're a mid-sized scan group that is fairly popular, and they worked on a lot of manhwa - it's hard not to run into them at some point if you're a fan of BL manhwa.
In the past few months, however, they've been getting into scuffles with other groups, who we shall call "Group H", "Group M", and "Group C", all small to mid-size groups that work on BL manhwa (yes I know you can easily figure out who they are, but I hope to deter the lazy gossips). These scuffles are usually over accusations of sniping (ah yes, the pillar of scan drama), where MEX accuses other groups of stealing their series. Here's a brief rundown of their individual dramas:
DISCLAIMER: I know much more about some of these dramas as opposed to others, and most evidence is pulled off MD, where there is less evidence on M/C drama due to the shorter time frame and since MEX deleted releases. There is much better evidence, but I hope to protect the privacy of some of the people I got info from and as such, I am posting minimal Discord screenshots.
Screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/GItvMPn
H - MEX decided to pick up a new manhwa and had started working on the first few chapters. However, H also decided to pick it up, and posted a chapter first, effectively "claiming" the manhwa in scan terms. However, the MEX admin was angry about this, and confronted H's admins in MD comments and on Discord. H continued posting chapters, and MEX tried to catch up to them but H stayed ahead. Eventually, the groups tried to come to an agreement and collab, but an anonymous member of MEX DMed screenshots of the MEX staff channels to the H admins. H confronted MEX about the screenshots, and the MEX admin left the collab angrily, accusing the H admins of spying on them. MEX admin then dragged the readers into the drama by accusing H of spying in their releases and on Discord, even though that never happened. However, both groups decided to just stick to their own releases, and the drama faded out.
M and C - MEX decided to pick up two manhwas. However, M also had their eyes on these two projects, and was collabing with C on one of them. While MEX "claimed" these projects by commenting about it on MD and announcing it in their Discord server, M and C released their versions earlier than MEX, just like with the H drama. MEX admin once again was infuriated, and started complaining about it in MD comments. MEX fans started bombing one of the manhwas with 1-star ratings and filling it with hate comments, as well as editing the project description. MEX admin has claimed these trolls have nothing to do with MEX, but it angered members of C who got into drama with the MEX admin, resulting in an exchange where they pointed out many of MEX's mistranslations.
So, what's up with MEX disbanding?
As most scanlators know, posting a chapter first is a very commonly accepted way of "claiming" a project in scans, and most groups will just drop a project or reach out for a collab if another group posts first. However, MEX admin reacted very strongly to these "snipes", and ended up dragging their readers into the drama every time by posting long announcements on their releases, and putting public announcements in their discord server. Ultimately however, I am here just to deliver the tea, so it is up to y'all to come to a conclusion.
I thought I wouldn't be rude and forcefully take a series up, so I messaged them about if they mind that I catch us up to the current raws. We're about 20 chapters behind the current raws and I'm very invested in the series. They seemed like they really wanted me to join them to speed it all up, but I didn't want to for a few reasons: 1) I'd have to wait on them for finishing the scripts and they already work on this extremely slow as it is (they upload 1:1 at the speed that the raws release, which is weeks) and I have a bunch of free time so I'd be sitting around waiting on them forever. 2) I wouldn't want my hard work falling under their name as I'd be doing everything but translating if I joined them. 3) They're the third group that's taken up the series and the most scuffed of the three, so being associated with them and giving them a better name isn't really appealing to me.
He was probably talking out of his arse, but the guy I was mainly messaging said "also gonna probably work on 2 - 3 chapters a week soon, so ya should work quick hahaha" while we were talking about it. To go from a few weeks upload speed to 2-3 a week is a crazy improvement, however, it's already been eight days since their last upload on the series. I've already solo scanned one popular series that was recently dropped (now picked back up) to catch it up. This series is also fairly popular. Having been declined by them, I took up some dead series that have been dropped for quite some time so ease my salt. My question is: After I get done with the current works I'm scanning (it's like 50 chapters combined) and if these guys are still screwing around, should I just say 'eff it' and snipe the series?
I've left my name and their group names out as I'm not sure if I should upload the snipe anonymously under an alt or my main account. I might just do it under my main if I snipe and if I do I don't mind saying what the series and the names of us are.
A Parody Scans, which has been releasing a new series, Elena Evoy's Observation Diary, has been competing with another group for the series. Someone in that group had snitched to APS that they were going to do all 8 chapters that had been released today, chapters 4-8 which all required to be bought with real money. APS, which has been releasing one by one, had heard about this group planning for a mass release of the 8 chapters. Their leader, had DMed the leader of this scans with the words
"hey, i’m the leader of A Parody Scans. i’m sending you a message after hearing that you’re gonna upload all chapters at once. we’ve already claimed and uploaded first until chapter 5. we have no intention of dropping it as we claimed the series first."
which the leader of said scans replied
" hihi, although we decided to do till chapter 8, it is because we have already paid for the raws and do not wish to waste the efforts of out staff. We will however, be dropping this series after releasing till chapter 8. If it's ok with you we'd like to upload the work we've done so far as the staff did take the effort and time out of their day to do this. We've agreed to let you claim the series and we will NOT be continuing after chapter 8. Many thanks and we look forward to your future releases ."
The leader of APS then said
"alright, but let us upload first until chapter 8 as we’ve already claimed the series. after we’ve uploaded, you can start uploading. is that a deal?"
Yet, the latter scans had already decided to drop, so according to their terms, both scans would post at their own speed. However, APS demanded that they allow them to post the chapters before the other scans. Even joining the scan's server and writing this in the general chat, not bothering to start a group chat or settling it in DMs.
"hey, i’m the leader of A Parody Scans. i’ve previously sent a message to Adelaide, so i’ll be sending one here. i’m sending you a message after hearing that you’re gonna upload all chapters at once. we’ve already claimed and uploaded first until chapter 5. we have no intention of dropping it as we claimed the series first. "
Other admins of APS also joined the server and said
" hey babes. i hate to give you guys an addition to your member count and i really really would've loved to avoid interacting with you all like this but could you kindly tell your leader to stop insisting with continuing the series? that'd be great thanks, because it's really all wasted efforts on your part. even tiring yourselves out for no reason over this series. thank you mwah x "
As you know, the main policy and decency most scanlators should have is to treat scanlation as a non-profit hobby and hobby only. And here comes Asura. The big bad wolf with releases at lightning speed and rather questionable QC.
Also in question are their shitty snipes, which they deny but is up for debate.
But trying to make money off of scans ?
Pretty shit move
Yes, I'm well aware that some groups pay KTLs, run websites etc etc.
However Decent translation teams eg. Zeroscans end up suffering from backlash as soon as they drop popular series as soon as they get licensed. In comes the readers hero Asura Scans!
They put out fast releases, AND they do it for free! (with the exception of adding a Patreon ofc)
So why is this bad ?
A: Because most readers are idiots who fail to see the bigger picture (Jk, jk readers are clearly God and oh so wiser then , scanlators when it comes to manga/manhwa/manhua)
Actual reason:
Okay... accidentally got the title wrong the first time. Fixed it this time I swear
I Became the Hero's Mom: https://mangadex.org/title/58323/i-became-the-hero-s-mom
I'm not in either of these groups' discords nor am I following the drama closely, but it seems like Sawateam is being the immature one here under the guise of "oh it's just for fun" like it justifies anything...? Seriously, I don't see the need to make passive aggressive comments in public to humiliate a scanlation team without providing any proof that "Asura deserves it" as their defense. And if they did provide more proof, more readers would be dissatisfied they are bringing drama to the limelight at all. So why even bother in the first place if not just to act out like assholes throwing a hissy fit?
It seems like the fact that Asura accepts donations is what pisses off supporters of Sawateam the most. How far does this superiority run in this community?? I didn't realize it was such a big deal, but people act like it's the end of the world...?
(Sincerely, an outsider who wishes to stay an outsider because what in the fresh fuck is happening-)
Edit: Thanks everyone for the explanations. I realize now that my post really wasn't anything groundbreaking as everyone already expected this type of behavior from Asura LOL and it's just another day being involved scanlation drama for most of you people. Judging from the comments of Asura's scanlation, it seems I have unwittingly become another one of those sheep who fell for Asura's victim plays...
It's just extremely hard when most readers don't want to bother looking into it (like me). On a surface level, it really does look like Sawateam was in the wrong, but I guess it is our faults (the readers) when we don't do more research. I feel more up-to-date now and will keep a better eye out for any drama involving Asura.
First of all: Here's the post https://www.facebook.com/1077444015799913/posts/1496022903942020/
They are basically claiming they've been allowed to work on the series to threaten other spanish groups with fake dmca warnings.
Their scanlation website literally runs on madara and if you check the paypal page, or the staff page on the website they're obviously kids making up lies to try to make some money.
Also if you look for the name of the staff people, the 2 top people have youtube channels with the exact same name and one's a minecraft youtube kid with one video interview school project and it's like a 14 year old, and the other has a school project video amongst other random gaming videos where you can literally tell it's a pre-teen.
After talking with them for a bit they claim they don't own the license but have been given legal permission to work on solo leveling and just refer back to the fake contract shown on their facebook.
Just super weird/interesting and I thought I'd share.
I’m actually suprised that no one has talked about this issue but since no one did, I’ll do it. I’ve been a group leader for almost 2 years now. Knowing about most of the issues in the scanlation “fandom”, I shouldn’t be bothering but it’s escalating once again. If you scanlate for the yaoi genre then you have probably heard about this scanlation group called “celestial spirits” (former name: toxic scans). I’m trying to be as objective as I can since everyone should make their own opinion of them. I’m mostly up to date when it’s about scanlation drama but have never posted on here but it’s really becoming an issue again.
My staff have been talking about this team for a long time now (side note: the other 4 groups I’m in have talked about them too) and as for me I want to show what happened because I’ve the feeling that some people are supporting what this group did before, which is not okay at all.
So what did toxic scans/ celestial spirits do?
I’ll start with their pre-debut. Yes they have a background story and I’m going to explain everything because some of these members are still in this group and that’s why their past is important. Before they became a group they had a discord which posted chapters of lezhin work. They also talked normally like friends but how they got together was because of uploading chapters of licensed work. They had a really “special” person as their manager or so. This person caused much stress saying the N word even though they aren’t black, calling the R word to a person with autism (I’m not sure if they said it again after knowing the person has autism), being rude to members because they act “sus”. The creator of the lezhin work then found out about this server which caused huge stress and made the group leader apologize.
After that they started a scanlation group called toxic scans. Ive mentioned about the apology before? That was an invalid one because they still uploaded lezhin work as toxic scans. This group made their debut on Dear Door (a licensed manhwa) and scanlated it. Mind you they aren’t really experienced. They started working on it, posted it on mangago and some people loved it, others wanted to stop them which they didn’t listen to at first. The person that was the manager also started collecting donations so they could pay their staff. I don’t have a specific number but it was more than I expected. Staff told the group managers to stop because things weren’t going the good way. Many scanlation teams started avoiding this group. And at some point they stopped working on DD because the drama was too big. They then started on other work such as seashell. After a few chapters they remade their group, changes were made. Such as renaming their group to celestial spirits, two “drama causing” people leaving (the manager included) and another one became the manager.
Now we are at the point where some people thought it’s gonna be better. Which isn’t the point.
I forgot to tell that the managers and the leader haven’t had the control over their staff and about themselves. I noticed their manager trying to work on this team which didn’t work. Now about seashell. It’s a huge discussion between 2 scan teams. One called quack quack scans and the other one celestial spirits. This manhwa is lezhin work and that’s why some scanlation teams held back on working on seashell.
In my mind there was a person that recommended it to multiple servers and 3 of them accepted it. Which wasn’t really clever from this person if you ask me. A scanlation group I’ve known for a long time started working on the first chapter. Another one was almost done with 2 chapters (planning on posting both chapters in one day) and toxic scans worked on it too. Toxic scans didn’t claim it on MD and the other two teams were talking about who’s gonna scanlate seashell for good. At the same time toxic scans uploaded it on mangago and the two teams thought it’s fine because they only post on MD (though MD posts get uploaded on mangago). Then toxic scans started posting on MD too. The group that claimed it was too slow for that one and didn’t want any drama, knowing the past of toxic scans so they thought about uploading the chapters when they get contact to toxic scans.
After chapter 2 or so toxic scans remade their team, saying they are sorry for the things that happened and that they won’t cause any drama anymore. The scanlation team that wanted to talk to celestial scans thought about giving them a chance. They saw chapter 3 & 4 and wanted to talk to celestial but then found out an other team called “quack quack scans” did chapter 5. They were fine with it, thinking that qq scans are gonna continue uploading the next few chapters (I’ll link some peeks of their work and the bottom one is gonna be the work of qq scans so you can judge). Celestial got upset about it. They worked on their chapters for a while now to make it better and told an other scan team that they won’t drop it. At that point the manager made a statement saying they don’t want to cause drama so that was it for a while.
The initial drama can be found in the comment section of the oneshot My Sister's Funeral:
Since this came up a few times, let me just tell everyone that this oneshot has no twist. Not one. And I'm not saying this because it was badly done or too obvious. There was no plot twist planned from the beginning. No halfway intelligent Japanese reader would have been surprised by the "reveal" that the sister was dead. That wasn't the point of this. The first big clue was the firefly, which has a significance in Japanese folktale. Perhaps you've heard of the anime, Grave of the Fireflies. The firefly leading Yousuke to the sister was the first big clue. In fact, too obvious to be called merely a clue. And right after that, the sister (and the readers) see the floating lanterns and realizes what day it is. So it's established right from the beginning that she's dead. And if you predicted that "twist," pat yourself in the back for being sharp enough to see that water is indeed wet.
This is instead a narrative about what changes and what does not, and how that affects and allows us to hang on and then let go. In that, the author does as very good job of presenting foreshadowing and blending flashbacks while keeping the story tight enough for us to wonder whether the brother is actually seeing a ghost or he's simply hallucinating or imagining. And then the author wraps it up with the final epiphany that allows the boy to confront reality being the same as the one the sister had earlier. That's good storytelling.
I'll give you that the theme is old and common. But that's just another way of saying that it's timeless, and you can still weave a great story with it. It's much better than bungling a fresh, new idea into something trite and empty.
edit:
@BraveDude8. Don't fuck with my post without even talking to me.
@ThePaulBunyanTrophy Then use spoiler tags, or post it in the actual chapter discussion thread, not the one people see when they click onto the manga page.
This subreddit has been quiet so I am here with some fresh speculation!
Here some background information for many of you who may not know. Secret Land Castle (SLC) have done many promos of novels in the past. The unfortunate author discovery forced them to migrate almost exclusively to own website. Even more unfortunately, many newcomers on the scene then never see these released and work on and release the same promos. Recently, their website domain expired and their site is no longer available, which no doubt influenced their recent uploads of past promos.
Now here is the fun.
As a avid fan of their works, I was excited to see their promos on Mangadex as I could not read any recently because their site down. One of more recent uploads includes promo for The Monster Duchess And Contract Princess. SLC uploaded to The Monster Duchess And Contract Princess manga page directly, but I noticed has since moved to a new manga page.
Now I am thinking, why? Many promo chapters coexist with their serializations. So I put Detective hat and do a some searching.
Notice?
Only other NASS manga, Sincerely: I Became A Duke’s Maid has different page for promo like The Monster Duchess And Contract Princess.
What do you think? Did NASS see SLC upload and ask Mangadex to seperate their manga? Knowing Mangadex has pulled string for NASS before and close to them (you can find in older NASS posts in this subreddit), I am doubtful this is not another instance NASS asked Mangadex to play favourites.

Ongoing snipe war between SS and Immortal suns
Edit: Series in question
I got permission from my friend Swezed to post it here, the rest is from Swezed's post on his Discord Server. - Skrillz
Hello people, I am Swezed and in case you don't know who I am. I'm the colorist of the blue lock fan color.
So, I'm just gonna head straight into what's happening. If you didn't know already about the controversy, the subreddit for blue lock is currently sniping the translators of Blue Lock (aka A pair of 2). "Sniping" is basically doing other groups work to produce more chapters faster, which in general is dickhead because it ruins the other groups effort.
Now they also aren't just gonna snipe blue lock itself, but also the fan color that I did. And why you might ask? I'm not even sure myself, probably because TwistedShadowzz (the subreddit admin, I will define him as "Twisted" from now on), probably got butthurt that I didn't partner with them. I have multiple reasons for not, and I'm gonna break down how much of a clown Twisted really is and show you how massive of an ego he for members and dominance.
You might argue that they do it for free, but you will find some really retarded stuff once you've read this post.
Just to show you an example of how our first conversation goes, just to show you how to get an affiliation going 101 ft. TwistedShadowzz.https://prnt.sc/sm3ix5Yeah, weird isn't it? So I talked to him about the reasons why Cimi (fyi the translator of blue lock from a pair of 2) and apparently the response is "Advertising in our server" (https://prnt.sc/sm3jlb). So I'm kind of scratching my head about this, so I ask Cimi about it, and apparently that is completely false. In fact, Twisted was a staff on the pair of 2 and literally stole the translated script for chapter 45 so he could snipe them.
Now Cimi doesn't really have any proof of this, BUT we do have some screenshots from the staff chat from Twisted where he was quite literally fucking around with them, so for some context have this:https://prnt.sc/sjor0chttps://prnt.sc/sjorn1https://prnt.sc/sjorzohttps://prnt.sc/sjosmg
So there's that. You might not agree with me on what Twisted did there. But considering what you are about to read, you will probably find it true.So now let's talk about Twisteds ego for members. So yeah he proves the fact here that he has colored chapters up to chapter 4 (https://prnt.sc/sm3nhu) (extra proof: https://prnt.sc/sm47sv https://prnt.sc/sm48bx). And here he tells me to joint with him/them so he can have more members (https://prnt.sc/sm3o0o). Which proves how much of an e-thot he is for more members. Because in the end, nothing should of course matter of my work, it's all about the dominance, of course.
And yeah Twisted is also just not an e-thot for more members, he also has a negative IQ. Here Twisted talks about how scanlations of blue lock will stop (https://prnt.sc/sm3vex). So already knowing it's boutta be some stupid shit, I ask him if it's about trademarks or what. And he says "Copyright" (https://prnt.sc/sm3w9i). At this point, I just go with a guess since either way it will be hilarious so I ask him if he's gonna copyright the pages, which to that he says "No im saying that lock will be picked up by an official company, just in a matter of time" (https://prnt.sc/sm3wqu). So yeah, he's talking about official translations for the physical book. Proving the amount of little knowledge he has for how things legally work.
And he even puts (dont leak) as if it's gonna be some big secret (https://prnt.sc/sm44z7). Is it really that secret to ask for fonts??? Like he could quite literally just done some small research on the chapters and contact FlintlockHS from Mono Scans for them. (Also Mono Scans is not related to this drama, so don't involve them in this situation, thank you). And even after implying that we gotta add some more (dont leak) to make this top-secret (https://prnt.sc/sm46fr). Also regarding what I said about "well either way they'll remove it", it was about mangadex sniping rules which I thought was a thing because of things I heard happen before. But apparently was false so that was a mistake on my side.
The Break
Around April Ninja Scans stopped uploading Martial Peak at 162 after stopping at 44 in january. They also didn't upload any chapters inbetween. https://imgur.com/a/0iu4W9i
The Snipe?
Now recently out of the blue Ninja Scans start again uploading chapters this time however the latest ones while disaster scans have been in control of martial peak for over 2 and half months now. https://imgur.com/a/gFjS5Vb However, from the discord chat logs they're just releasing them because they're higher quality not giving a damn if disaster has already released their chapters. It doesn't appear to be a toxic snipe but them just not giving a damn.
Comment if you want chat logs.
Welcome back to another episode of "NASS Gets Sniped", folks!
We'll be starting the program off today with a small chronological recap--an independent scanlator uploaded Chapter 9 of "Milady Just Wants To Relax" earlier today, and included a note (in the screenshots I will link below). A member of NASS messaged the scanlator (messages also below), and the leader messaged them as well. An hour and a half later, the scanlator uploads Chapter 10.1, with another message (also in screenshots!).
https://imgur.com/gallery/4ggckQo
A couple hours later, NASS comes out with their own Chapter 9 and Chapter 10.1 (so fast?), and leaves a note in Chapter 9, linked below. The scanlator comes out with Chapter 10.2, supposedly their last chapter.
https://imgur.com/gallery/XaoQJtC
The comments on MD have been overwhelmingly supportive of the independent scanlator, as they stated that they only wanted to work on what they like, and assumed the series had been dropped as there was no update for 2 months. In fact, NASS was 3 chapters behind (raws are up to 11, they had only released to 8), which means that this was not the first time it took 2 months to release a chapter, considering they had begun scanlating since Chapter 1.
Thoughts? Concerns? Opinions? Leave a comment down below!
Then, see you next time!~
Leader of WITS (What is this scans) came to ALS (a little sunshine) server and asked if ALS MTL-ed their work or not, followed by LLS (lunalotus scans) leader coming to throw more fuel on it.
Go check the screenshots here!
I don't know who is this 'staff' of ALS that LLS leader talked about, anyone knows ? I will update this thread if I get more information about that mysterious staff.
Also, here's my 2c :
I personally agree with Ai here. I think if you truly respect the author, you won't be doing scans at all. You won't even read any of illegal scans work in MD if you really respect the author. By reading illegal scans / doing illegal scans, we are basically shitting on the author's copyright.
Doing the scans work "perfectly" or according to your "standard" is nothing but a justification for yourself. You're only doing it for yourself, stop trying to spew some bull**** about respecting the author.
Why bother being some sort of "scans police/judge" by implementing/forcing your own "standard/justification" on other group anyway? Scans is a hobby, not a job.
Aside from that, I don't care if any scan group is MTL-ing or not as long I can still understand the story.
Again, this is my own opinion. Feel free to post your own opinion in the comment! If you don't agree with my opinion, that is fine. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion after all.

So someone generously provided me the google drive of the so-called trashtalk done by HOL staff:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Q33Idg2mLNWjpNnKfbHcOKzWKzQ90Pow
I'll let you be the judge if this is the trashtalk we were all expecting which made KKJ blew their fuse on HOL.
And now u/Mr_Blind93 pointed out that this is NOT the first time KKJ sniped other groups. First is the Portal of Wonderland in which Ninjascans were posting on their own website before KKJ decided to post their own chapters on Mangadex. Ninja scans then decided to drop it:
And then Wescans got Magic Emperor sniped from them (they were releasing on a different website) and is still currently releasing chapters. KKJ also admitted in their chatroom that they did snipe. https://imgur.com/a/ddrlcKo
I’m just a casual leaker :)

Has anyone seen the new chapter update for 'The Monster Duchess and Contract Princess' ? The uploader says they're targeting NASS, Akai (Akai#9979) to be exact.
Does anyone have an idea about what the heck is happening? Chapter link
Personally, all I know about MrOGZ and his group is that they do pretty fucking terrible work and that I'm a lot more inclined to drop any series they work on. Seriously, even the fucking white box "cleans" and "redraws" with black Arial typesetting for Witch Hunter is more bearable than whatever the fuck his group does. At least that doesn't look horribly scaled down.
So, very recently it seems that Eidetic Memoscans (MrOGZ's group) got sniped one two different projects:
Fechippuru ~Our Innocent Love~ (They got sniped by two different groups, though really only once as the other release was planned since a while ago)
Personally, I will say that I honestly appreciate the snipers doing a better job that MrOGZ's did. I mean... seriously, have you seen his work for Sokuochi Mayuri-chan? Though that's not the best part about all this. It's MrOGZ's petulant whining in the comments that completely fucking sell this whole popcorn-fest.
From the comments of Gyaru:
Wow man really just wow. Even though i legit told you guys that our staff left and we apologized for the inconvenience of the last chapter a lot of times even in the announcements you still SNIPE US. We got sniped yesterday on another manga and today this. Like there is no option of coming to talk to me and being like yo u had some tl mistakes in your last chapter, you just decided to snipe us. What a chad right? Oh and im just gonna say this, this chapter came out couple hours ago and redrawing all this shit translating and font typing it isn’t just a mans work that could be done in 1-2 hours. Ik there is a group behind this and in the name of my group i will actually start being aggressive man. We lost a manga we worked for 3months now this? That’s it man if you guys wanna snipe us that bad, well we got some stuff to do at this point.
Oh and i love how you say we had some Tl mistakes in the LAST CHAPTER so you decide to upload a NEW CHAPTER.
And to that, I love LionRoy's opinion which probably encapsulates what most of us think:
Truly I don't care who translates, scanlator groups need to stop thinking they have a monopoly on whatever they are translating and think that because they do it first makes them entitled to the series; no that is not how it works it goes to whoever can produce the fastest and create the best quality work. Stop complaining about sniping and just focus on translating faster and creating more quality work thats how you pull in readers
Background Story :
So in Rumpi, we have a new CTL (Chinese->Eng Translator). Her name's Jasmine. She joined around 2 weeks ago? Give or take. During the NASS/BG cyberbullying snakes drama, we found out that she along with other BG supporter talked about Rumpi behind us. You can see the conversation here. They are talking in Snake Society Sleepless Society Discord. The drama they were talking about is Fraudulent Marriage drama. Where BG/NASS leader (you can see the list of actor in other reddit post. It's mainly Rui, Di, Jewel, Mofutofu, and you know the rest.) sniped Rumpi by using anonymous group (No QC).
Edit : I forgot to mention that Jasmine is also a translator in NASS.
Before people asking why Rumpi didn't just collab with NASS/BG, it's because we know they have nasty personality and we do not want to work together with them. We know they like to insult us in their secret channel. They even said that Rumpi always takes their leftovers (the staff that didn't pass BG/NASS/LLS test will be taken by Rumpi.) We in Rumpi, didn't know and care whether the staff that applied to Rumpi has been rejected by BG/NASS/LLS or not. Who cares anyway?
We didn't think they would go all the way and create a whole new group along with keeping up No QC discord server to convince people that they are different group though. I can't show you the proof on how did we know that No QC is basically those snake from NASS/BG so it's up to you guys to believe me or not.
And in here you can see Jasmine pretending to be innocent in Rumpi.
Later on, one of Rumpi's leader DM Jasmine for clarifications. You can see the conversation here.Okay then, everything's clarified. Jasmine apologized and said she didn't mean it. Everythings's good..Right?
