It's the end of an era. The Houston grocery store known widely as Disco Kroger is closing.
The company announced the location at 3300 Montrose Boulevard in Montrose will shut down in mid-January 2021.
"Over the years, we have made investments and attempts to increase sales, profitability and conditions by better tailoring our product selection and offerings to suit shoppersโ preferences," Kroger said a media statement. "Despite our best efforts, we have not been able to operate at margins that will allow us to remain open."

Likely the most famous Kroger in Houston, Disco Kroger earned its nickname for the late-night crowds streaming in after bars closed when the store operated 24 hours. It was also affectionately called so because the supermarket was in the heart of Houston's LGBTQ+ neighborhood. Drag queens and people in costumes could be seen on any given day, and the store became a hub during Pride.
Kroger has run a grocery store at that location for 42 years.
There are two other Kroger locations within 3 miles of Disco Kroger; both will stay open. The company added that the closing store's 74 employees will be offered jobs at nearby Kroger stores.
