I tend to keep my Telemon on the board, hes so absurdly tanky with a Vexilla that if the enemy wants to spend all their shooting on an attempt to kill him, they are free to do. Instead I usually golden light my Achillus, hes much cheaper, very killy with eternal penitent and deals with bullshit extremely well (and to many peoples surprise) with the Emperors hand.

Its just a straight up bullshit counter which I really like. The WL trait is useful as a secondary one on a Vexilla as it really increases your movement options but yeah if youre running Emissaries you likely have something like Venatari who will be very hungry for your stratagem CP every round.
I think the biggest annoyance with war of the spider is that the host WL traits are situational, but very good if the situation happens and you use shoulder the mantle to use it.

Yes it's a "before the battle" action that costs CP. It's not part of your army list. So you get to decide how to use it or not after seeing your opponent's list. You can think of it as working similarly to various armies' pre-game deployment stratagems but it is universal to all battle forged armies.

Here's the thing anon, there isn't a canon slaanesh warband that isn't some variation of pink or purple except maybe pic related that's black and silver, so there aren't really many examples to pick from.
That being said I'd like to see how do you plan to use your pink&cyan because it doesn't sound like it'd look very good to me bu what do I know.
That being said I think something like white (the color of purity but used ironically cuz slaanesh), with gold trim or silver trim using a purple wash to shade to giive it the slaaneshi touch, or something like the official deldar colors that are close to black with color highlights but make it a kinda purple-ish blue.

Resin tends to be a lot less precise than plastic fit wise so you may need to trim, fill, or correct for bends here or there. Use green stuff and hot water treatment for that. If you're just having trouble keeping everything positioned as you glue, tiny bits of Blue/Poster Tack can be helpful for temporarily positioning arms to help you line things up.

Fair enough, though I feel since AdMech and Sisters are going to be the next imperial codexes we may be waiting a long time.
Shadowkeepers isnt aggresive, its just straight up good because of the stratagem in the same way Emissaries is, being a -1 to wound is most scenarios when used correctly.
I just prefer Emissaries because they counter Custodes themselves (especially terminators with ignore -1 and -2 ap) and also make opponents realise they cant rely on negatives to hit.

I know, i was just saying when you use it, youre using it because its going to make wounding harder. I dont think it exists for custodes yet either, but it reducing strength also means you can get an effective -2 to wound as its not really a -1 to wound and thus can stack with actual -1 to wounds.

They explicitly have Sword Brethren as an upgrade for their unique Crusader squad in the pdf. If you want to use an Elite unit of all Sword Brethren you can just represent them with a Squad of Company Veterans, Vanguard Veterans, or Bladeguard Veterans out of the main marine codex.

40k is woefully unbalanced at anything below 1500 points and above 2000 points. At 1000 points, players can easily bring things the other player just wont be able to deal with properly. Knights, jetbike spam, big boys in general are far superior in 1k games and makes the game extremely oppressive.
2k points is at a point where rule of 3 limits most of armies, most armies have ways of dealing with most of what opponents bring and everyone can splash in fun or niche options because their bases are already covered.

The rules and balance is built around the 1500-2000 point range. Smaller games can be played, Incursion missions exist for a reason, but that have some weird effects on armies and the game balance. Still it's a better time for 1000 point games than anytime i can remember. See this for a nice overview:

You start reaching a critical mass on the other side of the spectrum where opponents cant bring enough specific killers because of rule of 3. Theres nothing more cancerous than a 3k game where the oponnent brings a retarded amount of tanks and still has the infantry for objectives. You also get to a point above 2k where you have so much godamn firepower that if you are going against a shooty list, it just gets multiplicatively more cancerous above 2k points.

Purple and blue are simply just too similar to work well together. The reason most chaos paint schemes use a flat colour + a mettalic is because it works and stops the colours from being far too contrasting or similar.
If you have a specific paint in mind, all you can do is try it and see if it looks good. If not, then test out other schemes.

While I'm happy Dark Eldar finally got some coverage on the site, they seem to already be switching back to imperium in the form of sisters whos atleast getting two new units and the character.

I like it, they are usually called dioramas. However, dioramas are usually crafted to look great and usually models are glued straight onto the diorama instead of using bases.
Personally I find pictures like yours are much better if they are coming from actual games of 40k and you can see the fight going on around them as well.

Its so hard I almost want to give up on this one and try another one. I dunno feels like I'm throwing paint on it and it's not any closer to being done. Like her hair the paint keeps chipping off for whatever reason and it's pink instead of white despite using a different cup of water. I feel like every time I try to fix something where I got black on red, or white on black, etc. I just mess it up even worse.

This is just a personal preference but I thoroughly enjoy seeing pictures of armies mid game. Vostroyan anon posts a lot of his games here and I appreciate every time he does. I deleted all of mine like a retard and I massively regret it, because in a way those are my only memories of playing 40k pre covid.

Are you holding her by the legs and the head? Use a glove or preferably affix the feet to something temporarily, or ignore it, paint the miniature, glue it to a base and finish the hair.

1. You need a way to hold your mini while painting. If you aren't going to drill a hole in her foot and glue a paperclip in there to mount in a cork you should just go ahead and glue her feet to a base before painting. I get you may have some elaborate basing idea. But you're a beginner, make things easier on your self for painting the model first.

2. The Hair. Having a base to hold will help since you won't be rubbing her head as hard with your fingers while gripping the model for painting. That's probably half your problem. As for it looking pink, white paint tends to be a bit transparent. Especially if it's White Scar. So the Pink you're seeing is likely the red basecoat showing through the white paint. Not contamination. To prevent this first paint the hair in a light grey like Celestra Grey and then paint it white. Beside it's good practice to paint white as a light grey/off-white instead (Ulthuan Grey is recommended) and save pure white only for highlights.

3. Borders between colors and mistakes there. Washes hide this a lot. Unless the overspillage is large don't worry about it and wait until you've had a change to wash the recess. You may be doing "corrections" on stull you wont really see. Minis often look terrible or weird in the middle stages. Try to power through one for the experience of how things work if nothing else. Don't force yourself to make your first mini perfect.

I really appreciate these posts. I actually had her glued to the base but I couldn't reach her robes in the back so I pulled her off and just never glued her back on. The best way to get a sense of consistency is just to play with your paint. There isn't a formula, really.

Get a palette to work with, even a piece of paper will work in a pinch. Play around with your paint, add different amounts of water, test brush strokes and smear it around. You'll get a sense of what's going to come off your brush before you ever put it on the mini.

Finally, don't get discouraged, Anon. The sisters are pretty detailed minis, and you're still learning. Buy some cheap test models to practice on, if you feel like it. You'll be surprised at how fast you improve.

Absolute cheap brushes are trash. but I wouldn't by the top tier sable brushes until you've learned how to take care of a synthetic brush. I really like the HJ taklon brushes as starter brushes, even though I've graduated to sable now.

One of the key things with brushes is keeping them clean, I used the master brush soap and its great, but one of the reasons why I decided on going with sable is because I found demco's brush restorer which is fantastic for keeping brushes in top shape.

that said tools can only take you so far, tools are no substitute for hard work and learning techniques.

Invest in decent, but not the best, brushes. Brushes that are like $5-10 each are a good starting place. A good size 0 and a size 1 changed my painting completely, and it's not that I got better overnight, they just managed to keep their shape better and stored more paint in the belly so I didn't have to fuck around as much with over-thinning my paints and shit.

But I use my devilfish fairly aggressively and in body blocking roles, and the assault weapons of the drones means you can shoot into combat with no penalties if you tagged something squishy, and the drones popping out after the devilfish goes down also gives you some extra utility either to keep move blocking, or to get points on secondaries.

but then 14 SMS systems rerolling 1's to wound... they can't hide even if they wanted to.

So I'm torn.

Forgot to answer the question. But I've gone from just sticking things to the base to creating a bit of a platform using milliput and embedding any scatter into that to make it look like it's been stuck around for long enough to blend into the floor when I put on basing material.

For example, models 2 and 4 use basing bits from this kit, but they didn't look too great when just stuck straight into the floor Angling them with the milliput let me use them as an extension of the base and let me place a person's foot on it in a more organic way.

Custodes have distinct strengths and weaknesses and are genuinely unique, which is something that cant be said for a shit ton of current armies.
Playing and fighting against Custodes is a very different experience where the game is going to come down to one or two golden boys being in the right place at the right time or not which is awesome if you like those high stakes, win or lose, but if youre going in expecting a horde matchup where you destroy swathes of army every turn then youre going to be let down.
I will say, Custodes arent for everyone, but if you cant handle fighting 30 models instead of a horde, how you do handle fighting 6 models vs knights?

yeah. the point of subassemblies is to make sure you can paint any and all the surfaces without having something else on the model blocking your brush or otherwise making it difficult to get to said surface, so as long as you can reach every surface on every angle, you're golden

Trying to push custodians off of an objective is an absolute pain in my ass.

They can brawl out with the best CQC specialists in my army with their basic dudes and win and are practically immune to small arms, plus their jetbikes kill everything they touch.

Its a real pain having to play an elite army like fucking tyranids and expend your troops like ammo just to have a chance at winning.

If you're doing a very clean scheme with very clear distinctions between different colour blocks like >>78115578 then it makes sense, but if you're working on something nurgley, something has areas of exposed skin over joints or something that's heavily weathered, then sub assemblies may make it massively more difficult to create continuous paint effects between connections.
brighter pallets will also often benefit more from sub assemblies, while darker ones can often get away with, or even benefit from not going into full detail and highlighting areas that are out of reach and so inherently in shadow.

What do this even mean? The cheapest custode is 45 points and an average 2k list will have under 30 models and usually closer to 20 if taking the more expensive options like jetbikes.
Jetbikes cant kill "anything", they get trounced by anything T7. Their biggest weakness by far is mortal wounds, so if theres any way you can fit them in, that'll work wonders. Custodes obviously can roll hot, but stuff like concentrated plasma and melta will really mess with them as well.
Custode guard are obnoxious but without them, literally how would Custodes even compete?

boring slogs to me is killing 80 guard/bugs only for another 80 to be hiding around another corner. Every custodian killed is a chunk of the army gone, and I love the tense situations caused by how fast the army can disappear if they arent played well or are going against certain armies.
I have found however that most custodes players will get very pissy if they happen not to get lucky or dont just kill everything with bikes or guards, or their leaders get sniped. I think its the wrong attitude to have with custodes. Matches are going to have a lot more variance with custodes simply because the army isnt big enough to get averaged.

In a game primarily about taking and holding single positions having a unit thats borderline immortal AND obsec sitting on a point causes me no end of grief.

I just completely disregard any objective held by more than 2 units as not worth the effort when playing against custodes, I just have to hope the player gets greedy and positions a squad poorly so I can focus it down and leverage superior mobility to score points they can't reach yet.

Everything I field is either riding a jetbike or in a transport, I'm paying 200+ points per sacrificial pawn unit to acquire enough serpent shield shots to alphastrike ONE squad off the table somewhere important then spend the rest of the game running from pissed off jetbikers trying to joust my tanks to death.

Its rough as shit, sometimes I score enough points from holding one or two objectives and spamming scramblers to win but it feels like a classic authentic lore eldar win if you know what I'm saying.

At the end of the day, if you dislike fighting custodes, fairs fair, im not going to be able to argue that youre feelings are wrong, because thats silly. For example I had the exact same feeling vs most knight players in 8th when their codex first dropped. If you like playing your army a certain way, and its very difficult to fight against Custodes with that certain build, then yeah I can see the distress and it would be wrong to tell you to not build your army your way.
Just be aware that Custodes do have matchups where they just get trounced.

What kind of units? Dedicating 3 Custodes units to hold (and by "hold" I mean "stay around for a few turns") a single objective is overkill unless we are talking about a small squad and a bunch of characters who sit here for other reasons (aura, positioning for a charge, etc.).

I know that man, I've watched custodes try to fight tyranids.

I don't hate custodes or custodes players, they're a pain in the ass but at least you can play around them, as you've said they are expensive pointswise so their is wiggle room to win even if you straight up can't compete in a direct fight.

I can get 3 S5 attacks hitting on 3s, and 2 of them are AP-1 or better, for 8ppm. Easily buffed to 4 S6 attacks, 3 with AP-1 or better, going even further in hitting on 2+ and RR1s.

On 1 wound frames, sure, but otherwise the same T3 5+.

They're not very strong.

Keep you Serpents away, shoot and use them to charge and tarpit the jetbikes once tthey get too close. Without the reroll to wound interceptor lances are trash to deal with vehicles, you should be able to keep them away from your other units for a whole turn.
