It is ridiculous that a PC game in 2020 cannot be saved outside manual checkpoints, forcing me to replay the 30 minutes long sections I just spent on killing those damn machines. It is frustrating, kills progress and artificially boosts difficulty. I realize that this is a console port, but we on PC have standards and if games like Far Cry and Tomb Raider can follow them, so can this game.
It's an odd decision for an open world game that's for sure. You can go long stretches without manually saving only for the game to crash and a huge chunk of progress is lost.
Those are rare and far between. If it takes you an hour to finish a quest and you do not go out of your way to search for manual saves and you die, well, you can go play other game at that point.
Ya kidding, right? Most I've ever lost was 5 minutes of time, and that was since had to get a new mount to run across the world. If it takes an hour to do a quest, I'm very curious what quest this is..
Wait wut? Tons of auto checkpoints. Plus quick saving and moving between fires, manual saving etc.
Manual saving is only possible at fire camps. Which defies the purpose of MANUAL saving. It is unacceptable that in open world I game I have to search for saving points. The hell were devs thinking when they came up with this idea?
Ya can teleport to any nearby fire to save, and they are always close to any objectives. You can even teleport to a fire all the way across the map to get things you forgot to do.

It was a figure of speech. I was patiently killing machines, when the last one killed me and returned me back to the last save, forcing to repeat all over it again. And the fights are not even that fun, since it takes 10 minutes to kill one big mofo. In fact, those fights are so boring I try to avoid them if I have the chance, because I really do not feel like spending half an hour trying to kill metal machines with a freaking wooden bow.

That teleport requires collectible, so if you are out of them, good luck running around like scared chicken. And if you are free roaming or hunting for collectibles with no save points in sight, then be prepared to run away from any trouble like... well, scared chicken.

You can easily craft the Fast Travel Pack, though. While I don't agree with having fast travel require an item, it is very easy to make.

That still does not fix the issue with save point being far away, because after teleporting you have to run allllllll the way back. And hope that the machine you wanted to kill is still there and it still has lower health. I did not try it, but if the fast travel resets your progress on kill machines, then it is counter productive to use it.

To be clear, I was only referring to the issue of having to traverse the map to save to begin with. No game that I know of allows you to save mid-battle just so you can cheese it. Bring more potions and harvest plants for the medicine pouch if you're having trouble defeating enemies.
