Isn't this only going to hurt American miners? Other countries outside of the US reach will mine these trxn.

So when another miner mines a tx to a blacklisted address they fork themselves off?
1
no, the mara pool just doesn't include what they perceive to be "dirty txs" in their blocks.

It seems to me that bitcoin will both usher in Integral conciousness, (Ken Wilbers integral theory), and will grow in strength with that next step in human development

Frankly, I'm still trying to get worked up over this, but it just seems like a self-own and pandering.

As long as it fits in the BTC protocol....
Everyone is free to put a label on his btc (whatever it is 'green-minted' , 'government proof' etc)
I see the long term 'danger/negative' of it, but that will also be solved. BTC cant be tamed

Do not underestimate the desire of NGU crew to comply. Fungibility attack is real

Explain please?

May I ask why you speak of an "attack"?!? Do you mean that, in your views, Bitcoin consensus rules are incompletes? Mara just follow the protocol canonical rules & add some new ones. So respecting the consensus rules can't be an attack? What I miss?

If they accept other non compliant blocks in the chain to build upon, their effort is useless as long as they don’t have an absolute majority of hash power, right

Kinda, but even that would slow certain transactions down.

Maxis will hand wave this away as FUD as usual. Fungibility is under attack and they don't even know it. Can we send tainted sats to these maxis wallets?

why not

This another wave to overcome.
Long term it will fade (the same people virtue signal green bitcoin, wear diamonds, gold jewelry and Nikes).
It will (unfortunately) need to be addressed.
Thanks for the post. Appreciated.

I didn’t think it would happen this fast but 2023 seems like too far an estimate.

This space is always rapidly evolving. There are still no absolutes.
In before Coinbase forks bitcoin in 2023 to create Bitcoin Corporate with a Blue logo. “The blood bitcoin free chain”

It’s been under attack for quite some time, this is just a continuation many have seen coming for some time:

The beautiful thing about bitcoin is it promotes a true free market. Mara will disappear through competition

I expect we’re gonna see a lot more of this as corporations try to balance their ESG mandates with their wish to hold Bitcoin. The best defence is more education on how Bitcoin incentives renewable energy innovation.

Who said we can't have NFT's on #bitcoin
But seriously.... I wonder whether we should care. Bitcoin is designed to be immune to such attacks. And if you get picky about the origins of your coins, I can think of a lot more sources of non-fungibility. What abou know scammers?

Remember MIT's ChainAnchor to bribe miners to layer an ID system on top of Bitcoin and censor non-IDed transactions? petertodd.org/2016/mit-chain

Get your coins on Lightning now so that no miner can ever censor your transactions.
