Korean women and girls were given to the Mongols as tribute when Korea was the Goryeo kingdom and paying tribute to the Yuan dynasty. Mongol men took Korean females as concubines and distributed Korean virgin female slaves and wives to Central Asian Muslims, Arab Muslims and Han Chinese soldiers defecting from the southern Song dynasty.

Schoolgirls banned from singing for men in Afghanistan

No.806042 ViewReplyOriginalReport
The Afghan Ministry of Education has banned schoolgirls over 12 from singing at public events. On Thursday, March 11, Deutsche Welle reports.

According to the department's decree, such performances are now prohibited in all public and private schools in all provinces of the country. Responsibility for enforcing the ban rests with school principals. An exception is made only for cases where schoolgirls sing in front of an audience of only women.

The government's decision was posted by Kabul-based TV company Ariana News on Twitter.

More than two years after a group of residents from a northern California city first started receiving monthly cash payments with no-strings attached, the results of the public policy experiment are in: guaranteed basic income — designed to create an income floor — works, according to an analysis of results from the Stockton Economic Empowerment Demonstration (SEED).

From February 2019 to February 2021, as part of a hallmark initiative from former Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs and funded by philanthropic donors, 125 Stocktonians with a median income of $46,000 a year received $500 per month through a prepaid debit card — additional income they could spend however they wanted.

Researchers found that compared to a control group, those Stockton residents who received regular payments experienced less income volatility each month, were more able to secure full-time employment, were better parents and partners, and even saw improvements in their health and overall well-being. In other words, a simple monthly stipend led to upward economic mobility.

Calif. Governor wil facing recall election

No.809060 ViewReplyOriginalReport

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/california-governor-mounts-aggressive-effort-to-combat-recall-campaign/ar-BB1eE7Ya?li=BBnbcA1

Under Newsom's rule (coupled with BLM) nearly all small businesses in the downtown core have been vandalized, with many out of business.
Newsom's COVID response tactic initially designated certain businesses as 'Critical' and ordered all others to close. Effectively small business were shut down for roughly 9 months while larger business such as WalMart, Target, etc were allowed to continually operate. The governor's own winery stayed fully open for business and hosted parties during the pandemic while the health order was in place.
For several months CA congress and senate was meeting in the Downtown Sports Coliseum because it was more secure than the state capitol.
For several months hundreds of small business owners were protesting them outside of the coliseum as they ruled.
The state has mismanaged and subsequently lost over $11 billion dollars of COVID relief money which never made it to the intended recipients.

Of the 1.5 million signatures needed to trigger a recall there are currently more than 2 million signatures that have been collected. The governor has acknowledged that he will be facing a recall and blames it on "A Republican-backed movement supported by "anti-vaxxers, Q-Anon conspiracy theorists and anti-immigrant Trump supporters."
man his defense sounds really similar to what a certain loud, obnoxious shill on this board always says...

If the recall effort qualifies, it is unclear what month it would land on California's ballot, because there are a series of bureaucratic steps that must take place at various levels of state government before the state's lieutenant governor could formally call the recall election.

Schumer: 'everything is on the table’ to pass voting rights legislation and stop Jim Crow 2.0

No.809143 ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
Hope the racists and white supremacists that are the Republican party enjoy watching the filibuster get destroyed because of their single minded desire to destroy American Democracy.

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/03/17/schumer-says-everything-is-on-the-table-to-pass-voting-rights-legislation-in-senate.html

>Senate Democrats announced the introduction of a comprehensive voting reform bill, the For the People Act, in a press conference Wednesday.

>The legislation includes provisions that aim to make it easier to register and vote, prevent gerrymandering, improve election cybersecurity and reform campaign finance, among other initiatives.

>The Senate Rules Committee is set to hold a hearing on the bill on March 24.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said “everything is on the table” to pass a comprehensive voting reform bill, the For the People Act, during a press conference introducing the legislation Wednesday.

“We will see if our Republican friends join us. If they don’t join us, our caucus will come together and decide the appropriate action to take,” Schumer said. “Failure is not an option.”

The legislation, also known as S.1, includes provisions that aim to make it easier to register and vote, prevent gerrymandering, improve election cybersecurity and reform campaign finance, among other initiatives.

The bill faces an uphill battle in the Senate, where it would require a minimum of 10 Republican votes to defeat a filibuster and move to a final vote on passage.

President Joe Biden said Tuesday he supports revising the Senate filibuster to require the minority to talk on the floor to block legislation, after previously indicating he did not support efforts to eliminate the filibuster completely.

“This issue is bigger than the filibuster,” said Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., in his first major floor speech Wednesday. “No Senate rule should overrule the integrity of our democracy.”
