In a year like none other, election officials, their staff, and countless community members came together to make this historic election happen. Democracy is a team sport and that has never been more true than this year. Voter interest in mail ballots soared as fears of the virus grew, and the National Vote at Home Institute worked diligently to present best practices and innovative solutions to aid states in a successful vote by mail expansion for both voters and administrators. Here you'll find our assessment of how 2020 went and what we can do in 2021 to make elections even better.
WHAT WE DO
National Vote at Home Institute (NVAHI) is a nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to making sure every American can vote in secure, safe, accessible, and equitable elections by expanding vote-at-home systems in all 50 states. NVAHI works with election officials in optimizing their administration processes and governing laws for both mail ballot and in-person voting methods. NVAHI works to remove legislative and administrative barriers to vote-at-home systems and educate the public on the benefits of voting at home while still preserving the ability to vote in person for those who may want or need it.

Conduct original research and provide a clearinghouse for data on voting at home.

Assess & recommend policies governing how mail ballots are offered & processed.

Support election officials on implementation, resources and best practices.

WHAT IS VOTING AT HOME?
Voting by mail — also known as voting at home — is a secure, time-tested way to increase voter participation. Voters get their ballot delivered to them weeks before Election Day, fill it out at their convenience, then return it either in-person or by mail.
