Adjunct, Challenger Programs

Southern New Hampshire University is currently seeking adjunct faculty to teach in our graduate Business Analytics Challenger program. The Adjunct position at SNHU is a non-ranked, non-tenure track position. The Adjunct role is to primarily support specified online programs within SNHU through teaching, student support, subject matter expertise, mentoring of adjunct faculty and engagement in administrative activities in service of the institution. The Adjunct teaches standardized, pre-developed online courses, in a 10-week (graduate) or 8-week (undergraduate) term structure. They may be assigned 10 courses and report to the Director of New Learning Models, Challenger Programs.
The Adjunct must demonstrate commitment to SNHU’s culture of excellence in teaching and learning and student success and to the ideals and ethical principles of their profession. They must possess expertise and credentials that allow them to contribute to the continuous improvement of the overall student experience and success, program quality, oversight and curriculum development. The Adjunct must also meet all requirements and expectations for faculty as described by any applicable accrediting organization with jurisdiction over the faculty’s program of record, and by SNHU.
Primary duties and responsibilities of this position:
All Adjuncts are expected to adhere to SNHU faculty requirements as outlined in the SNHU Faculty Handbook and must adhere to practices, standards and service level commitments that are unique to the online setting. Adjuncts may work remotely and should be available to accommodate a teaching schedule that includes about 6-7 hours of live instruction and support per week, in addition to asynchronous class support activities and outreach.
Additionally, duties and responsibilities required of the position include:
Teaching
· Teach two courses per term.
· Teach 6 hours of live content across 2 class sessions per week.
· Adjuncts will be given a detailed curriculum with lesson plans, exercises, and pre-made slides to prepare for class. Adjuncts will be expected to prepare 2-3 hours per class session.
· Create and post weekly course announcements that bridge and clarify course concepts, encourage active participation towards course completion, and include applicable optional virtual engagement activities (i.e. webinars, virtual office hours, or live Q&A sessions).
· Evaluate projects submitted during the incomplete period and answer related student questions.
· Use course rubrics to grade and provide personalized / student-specific feedback on projects, clearly articulate the critical elements and reasoning where points have been deducted, provide praise and instructional insight that could benefit the learner in achievement of the associated assignment.
· Actively participate in discussion forums: review and respond to learner discussion posts; ask guiding, probing, and clarifying questions to promote academic growth; reinforce and/or clarify course concepts.
· Review the facilitation guide and adhere to the policies and procedures for teaching at Southern New Hampshire University.
· Use the “Feedback” area within the assignments to provide a summary or direct learners to refer to the embedded rubric for specific feedback and score breakdown.
· Respond to student inquiries on feedback provided on assignments.
· Adhere to all SNHU instructional principles and strategies that engage students in learning, when serving as an adjunct while clearly following the pre-determined course design and textbook materials.
· Provide meaningful and timely feedback to students, academic advisors and team leads in accordance with SNHU faculty expectations and requirements. This includes providing students with weekly instructional announcements, responding to all student inquiries, discussion boards or other posts promptly, providing rubric feedback throughout the term, and providing final grade assessments and posting grades within the expected timeline.
· Provide engagement and outreach to students who have not logged into the learning platform, proactively engage students who are not moving through their learning path in a timely manner and reinforce course concepts through professional experience.
· Adhere to the Instructional Practices Rubric and faculty performance standards at SNHU.
Advising Support
· Offer live office hours 30 minutes prior to class and 30 minutes following class.
· Outside of class, adjuncts will be expected to offer students support via online channels -- for roughly 3-5 hours per week.
· Monitor weekly learner activity, outreach learners who have not logged in for several days, and offer support to learners who have not achieved the required activities.
· Respond to learner communications (email, general discussion forum posts, phone calls, text messages, etc.) within 24 hours and to Director or Deans within 48 hours.
· Support students’ sense of connection to the program, provide career advice, provide capstone support, and enhance program retention as determined by the respective program.
· Participate in SNHU and program specific events including (but not limited to) Challenger training, professional development activities, etc. as assigned.
· Impact student experience and success positively by supporting the implementation of, and participating in, related initiatives.
· Collaborate with enrollment and student advisors to support program growth and student persistence, while maintaining a high level of communication with the students’ advisors.
· Provide exceptional student service in every interaction, which includes never giving up on a student who is putting forth the effort to achieve their goals, demonstrating care and commitment, and helping students solve problems.
Role expectations
· Student service focus is primary.
· Review and respond to communications from Challenger team, Advising, Teaching Assistant or Associate Dean.
· Attendance, punctuality, reliability and regular presence are essential functions of this role

· Maintain a professional, effective and efficient working relationship with all organizational stakeholders.
· Communicate effectively and professionally with faculty, staff and administration.
· Collaborate with respective stakeholders toward the development of a positive student experience, curriculum, courses, and programs.
· Maintain compliance with governing codes of ethics, SNHU faculty expectations, SNHU codes of conduct and SNHU Academic Governance model.
· Other duties as assigned to meet the mission and vision of the SNHU program.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Business or Technology
5+ years professional experience
Subject matter expertise in Data Analytics & Data Science (Python for Data Analysis, Python Pandas, SQL)
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Business or Technology
5+ years at a national start up
C-suite, VP, or Director experience
3 years of formal online teaching experience
Subject matter expertise in Business Strategy (Microsoft Excel, Business & Financial Modeling, Business Strategy) and Data Visualization / Storytelling (Tableau, Business Intelligence, Dashboard Development)
Teaching instincts: Excellent Presentation / Speaking Ability, Natural / Effusive Charisma, Ability to Manage / Control Classroom, Ability to Foment Student Interactions, Passion for Supporting Students, Tech / Screen Management Ability, Time-Management Ability, Improvisation Ability, Preparedness, Natural Gravitas
Compensation:
The standard compensation for these courses is $3,500 per 10-week graduate course.
Undergraduate and graduate adjuncts are paid bi-weekly and are considered W-2 employees of Southern NH University.
