Top 10 Fluoride Dangers

Fluoride dangers are real. Fluoride can damage health and fertility, destroy bones and teeth, and cause early puberty in children.

Fluoride Dangers: Top 10 Dangers of Fluoride

Water fluoridation has been banned in many countries including China, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Hungary, and Japan. Nearly all of Europe's water supply is fluoride-free.

However, fluoride dangers are everywhere in America. That's because fluoride is everywhere in our food supply. Fluoride is in our water, in juice, soda, wine and coffee, in soups and processed food, and in baby formula. The majority of American cities have fluoridated water.

Fluoride Dangers: Sources of Fluoride

Many people think they can avoid fluoride by just using fluoride-free toothpaste. However, fluoride isn't just in toothpaste. Almost all of the beverages sold in stores and restaurants are made with tap water. People who drink those beverages ingest a fair amount of added fluoride.

We consume fluoride and are exposed to fluoride dangers from the following sources:

  • Toothpaste with fluoride
  • Baby formula
  • Foods cooked in fluoride
  • Canned soup, or soup in restaurants
  • Mechanically deboned chicken (i.e. chicken nuggets)
  • Food cooked in Teflon cookware
  • Soda pop and soft drinks
  • Fruit juice (unless it is fresh-squeezed at home)
  • Beer and wine (unless they are imported from Europe or other areas that don't fluoridate the water)
  • Coffee (if made with fluoridated water)
  • Tea (all tea except herbal tea is naturally high in fluoride, even organic tea)
  • Kombucha (kombucha is made from tea)
  • Packaged and processed foods
  • Anesthetics
  • Fluoridated salt
  • Cigarettes
  • Many pharmaceutical drugs

Fluoride Dangers: The Top 7 Health Dangers of Fluoride

Top 10 Dangers of Fluoride

Fluoride Danger #1. Accumulation of Fluoride in the Body

Fluoride accumulates in the body. Healthy adult kidneys excrete 50 to 60% of the fluoride ingested each day (Marier & Rose 1971). Any remaining fluoride accumulates in the body, typically in the bones and pineal gland (Luke 1997, 2001). Babies and children excrete less fluoride from their kidneys and absorb up to 80% of ingested fluoride into their bones (Ekstrand 1994). The concentration of fluoride in the bones increases over a lifetime (NRC 2006).

Fluoride Danger #2. Fluoride and Bottle-fed Babies

Bottle-fed babies receive the highest doses of fluoride. Since they have a liquid diet, formula-fed babies have the highest exposure to fluoride. Infant exposure to fluoridated water has been repeatedly found to be a major risk factor for developing dental fluorosis later in life (Marshall 2004; Hong 2006; Levy 2010). As a result, dental researchers have recommended that parents of newborns not use fluoridated water when reconstituting formula (Ekstrand 1996; Pendrys 1998; Fomon 2000; Brothwell 2003; Marshall 2004).

The American Dental Association (ADA), the biggest advocates of fluoridation, sent a November 6, 2006 email alert to its members advising that parents should make baby formula with “low or no-fluoride water.”

Fluoride Danger #3. Fluoride and Reproductive Problems

Can fluoride cause problems with fertility and the reproductive system? Fluoride given to animals at high doses destroys the male reproductive system. Fluoride damages sperm and increases the rate of infertility in a number of species (Kour 1980; Chinoy 1989; Chinoy 1991; Susheela 1991; Chinoy 1994; Kumar 1994; Narayana 1994a,b; Zhao 1995; Elbetieha 2000; Ghosh 2002; Zakrzewska 2002).

A U.S. epidemiological study showed increased rates of infertility among couples living in areas with 3 ppm or more fluoride in the water (Freni 1994). Two studies showed reduced level of circulating testosterone in males living in high fluoride areas (Susheela 1996; Barot 1998). A study of fluoride-exposed workers reported a “subclinical reproductive effect” (Ortiz-Perez 2003).

Fluoride Danger #4. Fluoride and Brain Damage

“It is apparent that fluorides have the ability to interfere with the functions of the brain.” — the National Research Council (2006)

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) lists fluoride among about 100 chemicals for which there is “substantial evidence of developmental neurotoxicity.” Experiments on animals reveal that fluoride accumulates in the brain and alters mental behavior (Mullenix 1995). There have been over 100 animal experiments showing that fluoride damages the brain and impacts learning and behavior.

Advocates of fluoridation counter that these animal studies are invalid because high doses of fluoride were used. However, it takes 5-20 times more fluoride to reach the same plasma levels in rats as in humans (Sawan 2010). One animal experiment found effects at very low doses of fluoride (Varner 1998). In this study, rats were fed for one year with 1 ppm fluoride in their water (the same amount used in tap water fluoridation), using either sodium fluoride or aluminum fluoride. These rats had changes to their kidneys and brains, an increased uptake of aluminum in the brain, and the formation of beta-amyloid deposits which are associated with Alzheimer's disease.

Fluoride Danger #5. Fluoride and Lowered IQ

There have been 24 studies from China, Iran, India and Mexico that show an association between fluoride exposure and reduced IQ. One research team (Xiang 2003a,b) estimated that fluoride may lower IQ at 1.9 ppm (parts per million), while a recent preliminary study (Ding 2011) found a lowering of IQ in children drinking water at levels ranging from 0.3 to 3 ppm. The authors of this latter study reported that for each increase of 1 ppm fluoride measured in the urine there was a loss of 0.59 IQ points. According to the National Research Council (2006), “the consistency of the results [in fluoride/IQ studies] appears significant enough to warrant additional research on the effects of fluoride on intelligence.”

Fluoride Danger #6. Fluoride and Early Puberty

Reduced IQ is not the only neurotoxic effect of fluoride. Studies have shown an association between fluoride exposure and impaired visual-spatial organization (Calderon 2000; Li 2004; Rocha-Amador 2009); while three other studies have found an association between prenatal fluoride exposure and fetal brain damage (Han 1989; Du 1992; Yu 1996).

Fluoride also affects the pineal gland. Studies by Jennifer Luke (2001) show that fluoride accumulates in the human pineal gland to very high levels. In her Ph.D. thesis, Luke has also shown in animal studies that fluoride reduces melatonin production and leads to an earlier onset of puberty (Luke 1997).

Consistent with Luke's findings, one of the earliest fluoridation trials in the U.S. (Schlesinger 1956) reported that on average young girls in the fluoridated community reached menstruation 5 months earlier than girls in the non-fluoridated community.

Fluoride Danger #7. Fluoride and Thyroid Function

Ingestion of fluoride negatively impacts thyroid function. In the Ukraine, Bachinskii (1985) found a lowering of thyroid function, among otherwise healthy people, at 2.3 ppm fluoride in water. In the mid-20th century, fluoride was prescribed by a number of European doctors to reduce the activity of the thyroid gland for patients with hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) (Stecher 1960; Waldbott 1978).

According to a clinical study by Galletti and Joyet (1958), the thyroid function of hyperthyroid patients was reduced at just 2.3-4.5 mg per day of fluoride. To put this finding in perspective, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS, 1991) has estimated that total fluoride exposure in fluoridated communities ranges from 1.6 to 6.6 mg/day. This is a remarkable fact, particularly considering the rampant and increasing problem of hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) in the United States and other fluoridated countries.

Symptoms of hypothyroidism include depression, fatigue, weight gain, muscle and joint pains, increased cholesterol levels, and heart disease. In 2010, the second most prescribed drug of the year was Synthroid (sodium levothyroxine) which is a hormone replacement drug used to treat an underactive thyroid.

Fluoride Danger #8. Fluoride and Arthritis

According to studies, fluoride causes symptoms of arthritis. Skeletal fluorosis (a fluoride-induced bone and joint disease) mimic the symptoms of arthritis (Singh 1963; Franke 1975; Teotia 1976; Carnow 1981; Czerwinski 1988; DHHS 1991). According to an article published in Chemical & Engineering News, “Because some of the clinical symptoms mimic arthritis, the first two clinical phases of skeletal fluorosis could be easily misdiagnosed” (Hileman 1988). According to the CDC (2002), 1 in 3 Americans have some form of arthritis. Few studies have been done to determine whether the high prevalence of arthritis in America and other fluoridated countries could be related to growing fluoride exposure.

Fluoride Danger #9. Fluoride Damages Bone

An early fluoridation trial (Newburgh-Kingston 1945-55) revealed a two-fold increase in bone defects among children in the fluoridated community (Schlesinger 1956). In 2001, Alarcon-Herrera reported a correlation between the severity of dental fluorosis and the frequency of bone fractures in children and adults in a high fluoride area in Mexico.

Fluoride Danger #10. Fluoride and Hip Fractures in the Elderly

According to studies, fluoride may increase hip fractures in the elderly. High doses of fluoride (average 26 mg per day) were used in trials to treat patients with osteoporosis in an effort to harden their bones and reduce fracture rates. This treatment actually led to a higher number of fractures, particularly hip fractures (Inkovaara 1975; Gerster 1983; Dambacher 1986; O'Duffy 1986; Hedlund 1989; Bayley 1990; Gutteridge 1990. 2002; Orcel 1990; Riggs 1990 and Schnitzler 1990).

One Chinese study looked at hip fractures in six Chinese villages, and found an increase in hip fractures as the concentration of fluoride rose from 1 ppm to 8 ppm (Li 2001).

How to Avoid Fluoride and Fluoride Dangers

  • Avoid processed and packaged food
  • Buy fluoride-free toothpaste
  • Avoid fluoride treatments at the dentist
  • Filter your tap water
  • Don't drink soda pop, or coffee or iced tea at restaurants
  • Don't drink bottled water (with the exception of European water) as it is usually fluoridated
  • Order European mineral water in restaurants
  • Drink wine and beer imported from Europe
  • Don't use tap water if feeding your baby formula (of course, I don't recommend using baby formula anyway — if you can't breastfeed, it's best to make homemade baby formula)
  • Don't smoke
  • Don't use Teflon (non-stick) cookware

  1. How important do you think it is to filter tap water if you don’t have city water? We have a well….does that need to be filtered?

        1. “Chemtrails” are not backed up by any scientific basis whatsoever. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemtrail_conspiracy_theory) CONtrails, the water vapor that aircraft leave behind, however, are a scientific fact, and if you possess even the most basic scientific understanding, you would laugh at the idea of “chemtrails.”

Fluoride, however, has been extensively studied and repeatedly proven harmful. As sodium fluoride is a product of the aluminum industry (as well as fertilizer and nuclear) that’s why there’s aluminum and they add metals and minerals to the water supply.

When trying to help people, at least give advice that has some scientific basis! People that want to avoid fluoride are not just conspiracy theorists. Fluoride is actually dangerous.

          1. al12
I think you need to do some more research, Farmers in the us will confirm chem trails on a regular basis .Planes going back and forth with spray not coming from the engines but from nozzles on the wing tips.
The farmers crops will not grow well outside anymore due to extremely high aluminum levels .However if grown in a glass house the plants were green and quite healthy. Same paddock.
Quite ironic that bill gates is selling GMO Genetically Modified seeds That ere resistant to Aluminum……….

            1. Nozzles on the tips of wings? I’m enjoying reading both sides of this debate but lets get real. Do you know how many airplane maintenance workers there are in North America? I don’t, but even if a small portion of planes had hidden nozzles in the tips of their wings; there would be countless people discovering them and wondering what they’re for. The idea of Chemtrails is not new, we’ve all heard the conspiracy. I like conspiracy theories as a matter of fact. But for goodness sakes, think about what your saying John. People would find these nozzles and talk about them. Where are these people?!

          2. I guess you never look up at the sky. I noticed a number of years ago that the “contrails” of some airplanes did not disappear as they normally do. In fact they spread over a short period of time all over the sky. Also some agencies have admitted to this as a fact’

          3. Wikipedia said chemtrails don’t exist, that HAS to mean they don’t! (Insert giant eye roll here) how about you google ‘geoengineering’ which is the proper name for chemtrails.. Hey what do you know, even Wikipedia says that geoengineering exists! People that rely on websites like Wikipedia or snopes to find out whether something is true or not make me
laugh.. Or maybe they make me cry because they’re not smart
enough to do some research :/

            1. It’s convenient to don a foil hat and assume that the government is polluting us on purpose rather than own up to the responsibility that we are polluting ourselves as a collective.

I tend to believe evidence and not hysteria. This article for a meteorologist is a more compelling argument than any I have seen supporting chemtrails.

              https://sleet.aos.wisc.edu/~gpetty/wp/?p=989

              1. Of course they’re not. I mean fluoride in water is proof that the government has no clue that they are poisoning us on purpose. And oh, all of the side pollutants in foods that don’t need to be listed because they are industry standard (ie, piperonal).

You seem to be the one with the “foil hat”.

Try not to react so mildly to outlandish cases of vileness against you and yours, and maybe one day you’ll wake someone else up.

              1. Kind of funny that most the people in Denver Co. USA have no idea that HAARP operated a site East of Platteville Co. USA until the mid 1980's. The site has been reactivated and huge power has been run into the same site. It is now considered "atmospheric research" and is close to the public. There are many gas wells in the area, and some of the people who service the wells are fearful of saying anything about the place, (I.E. "please don't ask me about that").
I personally lived 5 miles away from it, and have some pics of just strange clouds in the area. I also have witnessed, along with a friend, black drones flying the area. We have noticed noises out of the sky at night. Sounds like you hear when you hit a tight cable. I have been told the noise I hear is from the gas compression plants 2 miles to the north. The compression plants have been in operation for over 5 years, and we started hearing the sound in the last 2.
New antennas have been placed in the area that you can see from Route 85.
The tornado that tore through Windsor Co. started there, and tracked Northwest, which is strange for a tornado. It was an F3 to F4 wedge, 1/4 mile wide, also strange for Colorado. The other 2 tornados that started there were F1 and F0 and tracked straight South.
I admit the Rocky Mountains are very close, and can make strange weather patterns.
You can laugh at the people that claim weird things, or you can say that is interesting.
The only source of Chem-trails I have heard of, that I'd say might be true are from an airbase near middle Kansas. A lot of people say lots of fuel additive are put in the jet fuel there. The only reason I do not discount it is because I have heard it from different people and it was unsolicited.
Yes, my Wife gave me an Aluminum foil hat as a joke. We have to have our sense of humor, but please do not discount all theories. Somewhere in the middle the truth is hidden.

            3. Wikipedia is good, but the people that edit it are uneducated. Although I have found credible info based on other web sites with (insert website here) that feature ”.org.” All in all, Wikipedia is pretty good for stuff that you don’t need EXTREMELY credible info.

              1. @Vin Wikipedia is highly unreliable. I clearly remember reading Saturn(planet) has 12 moons(it actually has 24!) few years ago . They have fixed it now, but I remember the blunder.

                  1. totally forgot, Most of Saturn’s moons are very very small, just 2 to 3 km across, and would rather be considered comets if they weren’t orbiting around Saturn.

            4. I could send come vital information and it might come back to me edited by Wicked Pedia (sic) Wicked Pedia is as useful as tits on a boar!

          4. Then please sir, tell my why the US government has a patent on them? It seems that if it didn’t exist, there would be no need for a patent of the equipment and technology. Please research before you dismiss information.

            1. I’ll bite. Please link the patent up so I can review it.

The fact that you think a patent is something an organization would feel necessary to file before implementing a huge global black ops mission on the global populous is hilarious, but I’ll admit to being curious

          5. Sorry man but you’re wrong. I don’t know why people try to pass this off as some conspiracy theory. There are companies here in my area that are hired to disperse chemicals like aluminum into the air. They freeze and help cultivate clouds. These companies are hired by the county or power companies usually. Contrails are just water vapor and they disappear very quickly. Chemical trails linger and they’re are usually laid out in grid patterns. You can debate weather or not their dangerous to the ph levels in the soil or wether or not there are other intended purposes but to deny they are real is idiotic.

          7. Can you call my girlfriend and have this Chemtrail discussion with her please! I am sick of the BS that she references as fact because some group she is in. It gets quite tense when a narcissistic person gets ahold of somethinhg like that hot off the press.

I don't see our relationship developing into anything at all unless one of us gets a Lobotomy. I just may have to go "Egyptian" with a small hook, into my frontal lobe through my nostril. Or break up with her. Oh! Maybe I will go deaf. That's hopeful! 😀

          8. Fluoride is as dangerous as lye…. a bit of lye in soap really gets you clean, too much will melt your skin off. Same with fluoride, just enough really helps to remineralize your teeth, too much can make you sick bit yous be hard pressed to get that much, even if you ate a whole tube of fluoridated toothpaste…..

    1. Just look for toothpaste that clearly says on the label NO FLUORIDE.

My daughter rarely brushes her teeth. She’s 4 now and is just starting to brush more. I don’t think 1-year-olds need to brush their teeth that often. It is not the lack of brushing that causes cavities. It’s inadequate nutrition.

      1. With all due respect, I have to disagree with this statement. My son is 4 years old, and has been in my care and custody for all of his life except for a 3-month period with his mother when he was almost 2 years old. He has always had a varied and healthy diet, he actually likes greens and fresh fruits, and he prefers white milk to any other drink.

During the time his mother had him (and on her alternating weekends at other times), she let him sleep with a bottle or sippy cup of juice or milk, and he never brushed his teeth. I’ve always brushed his teeth twice a day, since he cut his first tooth, but she has never brushed them once. Suddenly, after that 3-month stay with her, his teeth all had cavities and two of his molars ended up being pulled because they weren’t worth saving.

So, I disagree that proper nutrition alone will equal healthy teeth. Regular brushing and common sense like not allowing food or drink (especially with sugar) to remain in their mouth overnight are also important.

        1. Dude- You’ve obvioulsy never read Weston Price’s book. It wasn’t until I read it that I realized what I thought was healthy was no where near what we really should be eating. I was shopping the perimeter of the grocery store. I thought I was doing everything right. After reading his book, I don’t even shop at the regular grocery store. They have nothing of real value or nutrition.

          1. The head of pediatrics at Johns Hopkins wrote a small book titled Don’t Drink Your Milk. I believe his name was Oski. He wrote that cow’s milk can lead to type 1 diabetes. Subscribe free to www.notmilk.com and learn that cow’s milk causes a disease for every letter of the alphabet. As for water filters, you need a distiller I have distilled my water for 37 years. It cost $500 and I only spent $110 for repairs in all of those years. My brother in-law uses reverse osmosis but I don’t see how that can produce pure water for this resason: Fluoride exists as an ion which is an atom with one too many or one too few electrons. With that system, water molecues larger than atoms pass through a membrane that stops atoms? I can’t believe that. One hot say, I bought a bottle of water processed through reverse osmosis and found that water conducts electricity. Puire water does not conduct electrcity.

        2. Dear Mike,
With all respect youre wrong. Of course some general dental hygiene is required but teeth, like any other part of the human body also have the ability to heal themselves if given the right environment.
Cavities form primarily because of diet and that situation is then exasperated by sugary things, NOT the other way around.
The old saying: ‘Dont look a gift horse in the mouth’ – applies equally to humans. I good set of teeth and gums is generally indicative of good health.
If your mouth is even slightly acidic, which almost 100% of western people’s saliva will be because of our diet, the smooth out enamel of the tooth becomes pitted very quickly and it is in these circumstances that a tooth then starts to decay.

        3. Additionally, the dentine inside the tooth starts to shows of ill-health. in a healthy person with good diet the dentine is white. the enamel over the dentine is clear, though for those who smoke and/or who drink lots of tannin teas etc the outer surface of the tooth becomes stained.

People then buy enamel whitener which is really bad stuff because in addition to removing the surface staining it also eats into the smooth enamel and as stated in my previous message causes the enamel to become porous and pitted and fill with more staining and so this ‘cat and mouse’ game never ends. Meanwhile the dentine starts to darken in response to the damaged enamel.

The medical and dental professions know very well of course that such treatments are ultimately degenerative to the tooth.
Its called commercialism – make money no matter what…

        4. Its all good man, mistakes happen. I bet you won’t let him go back over to his moms for a while. It takes time to wear the enamel off teeth but teeth rot quick once enamel is gone. I remember growing up when the Doctor would tell you to use bottle water w/ fluoride. Kinda messed up, it wasn’t even Obama care yet

        5. I used to brush my teeth 2x a day and always got cavities when I went in for checkups. About 10 years ago I started drinking Marine Phytoplankton in water every morning when I’d first wake up. Cavities stopped. At some point, I stopped brushing with Crest and I have not had a cavity in 10 years and i stopped brushing 8 years ago. i do floss and brush with baking soda. I am convinced that both fluoride and all the commercially available toothpastes are crap. What I think makes the difference is that I am now alkaline and not acidic as I was before.

      2. Are you a dentist or have any dental education? It is a proven fact that biofilm, in other words plaque is the leading cause of cavities. An infant without teeth even buildup plaque on their soft tissues. As soon as teeth start erupting they need to be brushed to remove plaque. The demineralization of enamel happens when plaque is left on the teeth for long periods of time and then fluoride is needed to help remineralize these areas. Yes fluoride can be harmful in high doses but so can sugar or sun exposure, everything we consume needs to be in moderation. The average ADULT consumes less than 2-3mg of fl2 per day and these studies of side effectc are for over 25mg. I would trust the CDC and not a bloggers opinion

        1. How would you know how much fluoride anyone is getting in their diet? Do you know how much fluoridated water someone is drinking in a day? Water fluoridation makes it impossible to gauge how much fluoride a person is ingesting. As far as dentists go.. I don’t think they know much more than what they were taught in dentistry school. Drill & fill is their mantra, not caring about what damage they are doing to the structure of people’s teeth. They don’t know or care about prevention.. They’re not different than a doctor that goes to school that is funded by big pharma.

          1. And what hillbilly backyard high school did you graduate from that you think you know more than doctors and dentists. Paranoid “conspiracy” people like you shows why we need more education spending… Or do you think big pharma controls that too?

        2. i read this stuff a lot and i am concerned but somewhat unconvinced. i do worry but i dont see a real outcome to be worried about. perhaps some of you can point out my error in thinking? I have no arthritis, no bone/joint/muscle pain. i do have one white spot on one of my teeth, i think it has been there for as long as ive had that tooth. i still have all of my teeth, i have not have any removed. dentists have often remarked about how good my teeth are saying “it must be your saliva”. ??

          my background:

my parents both have capped teeth and past cavities, i have two brothers who also have cavities, none of them do the toothpaste soak like i do, spent most of my life in medium to large size cities, i have two kids – neither my wife nor myself took any fertility drugs, white guy, 30’s, ZERO cavities EVER, I have tested to have an IQ of 158, work in intellectually challenging jobs, make top 1% of others in the USA, very competitive, a Christian, I believe Jesus is God and my Savior, i brush somewhat infrequently, when i do brush i let the flurodated toothpaste soak in my mouth for about 15 minutes while i take a shower, i eat really well maybe too well, lots of fresh foods, lots of processed foods, i exercise a lot, here is my recent blood work results after i donated blood:

          cholesterol Last Result: 148
          Blood Pressure Last Result: 120/80
          Temperature Last Result: 97.2
          Pulse Rate Last Result: 64
          Hematocrit Level Last Result: 44.0

      3. yes the lack of brushing causes cavities. the plaque buildup literally sucks the calcium out of your teeth. if you dont believe me i’ll send you a pic of mine which started in the spots i couldnt get to for 2 years because of my braces.

not that it matters, luckily she has another set of teeth on the way. but good habits take time, and you dont want her 26 years old with a mouth full (or not full) of teeth like mine.

    2. Emily, I’m a dental hygienist. For your 1 y.o., I suggest brushing the teeth with a small soft-bristled brush or wiping the gums and teeth with a damp cloth after meals or at least once a day. Also, avoid sending the child to bed with anything but water, and only if necessary. The sugars and simple carbohydrates in milk and formulas lower the pH in their mouths, increasing acid wear and erosion and decreasing the protective properties of their saliva. The best thing you can do is to see your hygienist and/or dentist for a caries risk assessment and other tips for oral care.

  2. Ann Marie,

Are you sure that only European bottled water doesn’t have much fluoride in it? I know that Poland Springs has only 0.1 ppm for fluoride.

    1. It depends on the brand. There are some American bottled waters that have low levels of fluoride.

I was just thinking of when you are at a restaurant. Typically your choices are: soft drinks, milk, coffee or tea, soda, tap water or sparkling mineral water. I always choose sparkling mineral water.

Many restaurants carry S. Pellegrino (fluoride found at 0.37 ppm).

      https://answers.google.com/answers/threadview/id/521352.html

      https://www.nrdc.org/water/drinking/bw/appa.asp

      1. I looked it up and Schweppes club soda or seltzer water are also pretty low in fluoride. However, you’d have to ask for it by brand name. Usually if you order club soda or seltzer water at a restaurant, they will give you carbonated water, which I believe is just carbonated tap water.

  3. You mentioned that you can get fluoride exposure from Teflon – Please explain further – We have Teflon right now and are trying to phase it out…

  4. I have a love/hate relationship with posts like this: I love them because they are so necessary! We must get people to understand that we are being poisoned!

But, I hate them because I wish I would have known this stuff years ago. I had my daughter 16 years ago and not a day goes by now where I don’t wish that I had all this info then. I would have done everything so differently. I get a lump in my throat when I think about the many ways I have been poisoning my daughter all these years with the stupid misconception that the government wouldn’t allow us to have or consume anything so dangerous….right? UGH!

When she was a baby, my FIL (at the time) was a physician. He came to my house one day with a bottle of fluoride and told me to put it in my daughter’s water because it was necessary for her to have it. I wish I would have dumped it down the drain instead!

I apprecaite you posting this Ann Marie. I can’t tell you how many people I have tried to warn, only to be told it couldn’t be true because their dentist uses it. But in Suzanne Somers’ book, “Breakthrough” where she is interviewing the amazing Russell Blaylock, he explained that fluoride is one of the most toxic substances on earth. So toxic that it is illegal for them to dump it in the ground, yet ironically it is okay to give it to humans, livestock and water our fields with it. According to him the American Dental Association has admitted it has no benefit for teeth, but because they don’t know what to do with it if it is not put in dental products, that nothing has changed.

Its maddening and just down right disgusting!!

    1. Susan, everything you just wrote, if you go on to the ada.com (the american dental association website), you will see that they say the exact opposite of you.

have you even looked at their website? i saw what you wrote about the ada saying fluoride is no benefit “According to him the American Dental Association has admitted it has no benefit for teeth, but because they don’t know what to do with it if it is not put in dental products, that nothing has changed.” but they actually list it being beneficial many many times.

      ??

im just a concerned person, concerned parent. I dont want to poison myself or my little babies. i was actually in medical school for a short time (left because they dont think much), but learned that up until the turn of the 20th century, most people were dieing from… TOOTH related decay and problems. The teeth and gums dont heal fast enough, let in bacteria, etc. bad stuff. with the advent of proper tooth care, many lives were being saved. this is before wide spread antibiotics! amazing stuff i thought.

  5. This is my struggle: I am the consummate skeptic, so when I hear one “side” wholeheartedly advocating one stance and the other “side” just as wholeheartedly promoting the exact opposite, I tend to be suspicious of both. I am well aware that statistics can be presented to reflect whatever the researcher wants them to reflect. In an issue where people take such vehement stances, emotion becomes involved and everyone in both camps loses credibility. I feel the same way about the vaccine debate and was quite dismayed at some of the very hateful responses posted on both sides. I need evidence to be presented in a neutral manner so I can make a decision for myself after examining all the facts.

After reading this post, I went to the ADA website and read this: https://www.ada.org/fluoride.aspx. How am I supposed to reconcile the completely conflicting information?

    1. Brenda,

Please read The Fluoride Deception: https://www.amazon.com/Fluoride-Deception-Christopher-Bryson/dp/1583225269

This was the book that really convinced me.

You can watch an interview with the author of the book, Christopher Bryson, here:

      1. Hi Brenda and Ann Marie,

I listened to the podcast last summer that first introduced me to the idea that fluoride might be something I might want to avoid. Here is the link to a podcast interview with Dr. Paul Connet on Our Natural LIfe.
        https://ournaturallife.com/blog/2011/05/the-case-against-flouride-with-dr-paul-connett-podcast-onl076/

Thanks also Ann Marie, for the links to find filters that remove fluoride. That has been on my to do list, and I was having trouble sourcing the right information. Hopefully I can narrow my search down so I can purchase a filter.

        1. this government is representing satan! in order to destroy as many population as possible, this is a big rip off.

    2. well you could of course take it from someone who has vastly reduced the flouride in her diet, like me, and experienced great change. Firstly i was always thirsty, and had constant headaches for 15 oh yes 15 years, i have fuzzy thought process, and very bad gums. i used to brush my teeth 4-5 times a day and use mouthwash. They i changed the toothpaste i used to non flouride and old type one called euthymol. and over 6 months NO MORE HEADACHES, gum improvement and thought processes clearer.

      I hope that helps

      1. Brushing that much is bad, I bet you were brushing way to hard as well…. that's the reason for your tooth problems, not fluoride……

  6. We don’t use toothpaste with flouride in it. We also make all of our meals at home, so I think that helps. I naturally avoid coffee now, for my GAPS diet and just overall feeling better 🙂 🙂 This is a good article. thanks for the supporting references, too 🙂 Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather 🙂

  7. Say you eliminate all further fluoride intake. Will your body then be able to eliminate any/all of the fluoride your body previously stored in your bones and pineal gland?

    1. That’s a great question.

      You can detox heavy metals.

Dr. Andrew Cutler is an expert on detoxing from heavy metals and I’ve heard him speak before. I can’t remember if he specifically addressed fluoride.

      https://www.noamalgam.com/

  8. Ok, so…my 4.5 yr old has used fluoride free toothpaste since forever, and we have also always filtered our water. Now, however, I took her to the dentist for the first time, and she’s developed some ‘spots’ between her 4 back teeth that the dentist says are precursors to cavities. He gave me a special fluoride toothpaste and is having me brush her teeth with her regular toothpaste, then this fluoride toothpaste – which she spits out and doesn’t rinse, and then we floss those back teeth to get the fluoride in there. Ugh. He eats a super healthy diet, and the candy is kept to a minimum. The cavities I believe are genetic – her daddy and his fam have bad teeth. 🙁 so, is it ok now that she’s old enough not to swallow it, and she was breastfed and generally kep away from the fluoride containing foods that you listed? What do you think?

    1. You might want to read Ramiel Nagel’s excellent book on curing tooth decay. He explains all about this problem. The Weston A. Price Foundation’s website also has a TON of information for you. Your child needs to avoid ALL refined sugars and ALL processed carbs (cold cereals, factory made breads with few exceptions, storebought crackers and cookies, etc.). It’s DEFINITELY not okay to be shoving fluoride in your child’s gums! And that lame mainstream dentist line “avoid sugar” is just that–lame. Nowhere near enough. Your child needs optimal nutrition–high quality foods like raw dairy, grassfed meats, and eggs from pastured hens (NOT battery farm eggs) to heal. I’m doing this right now with my own 5yo. The teeth are an indicator of something not right in the body itself, and proper nutrition will heal him from the inside out–the only way to really heal. Hope this helps!

    2. Hi, Shelby,

What is a “super healthy diet”?

Cavities are not genetic. They are caused by inadequate nutrition.

Here are two articles I’ve written on this topic:

      https://cheeseslave.com/do-bread-cereal-cause-cavities-reversing-dental-decay-with-food/

      https://cheeseslave.com/how-to-cure-tooth-decay-with-rami-nagel/

Inadequate nutrition can also be caused by a “leaky gut” — or abnormal gut flora. Does she have gut problems or food allergies?

Personally, I would definitely not ever give my child fluoride of any kind. It’s poison.

      1. We do eat eggs from pastured hens, grassfed beef, but not raw dairy bc I’m allergic to cows milk, Zoe doesn’t like cows milk, and she’s had lots of phlegm since moving to TN so we avoid cheese/milk for her mostly anyway. She has organic plain yogurt every morning tho. We eat Ezekiel bread when we have bread, and whole wheat tortillas. She does not eat cereal, we rarely eat processed foods, no juice, and plenty of fruits and veggies. We eat a lot of homemade soups and stews, Mexican food (rice and beans for example), and she’s a fairly adventurous eater. She tested allergic to peanuts, eggs and tree nuts at 18 mos old, but we’ve never had to use an epi pen. I agree that cavities themselves are not genetic, but the strength of her teeth and their enamel I felt cld be genetic in nature. Her father and his mothers side of the family have horrible teeth that always require attention, but my family can avoid the dentist for years and have just fine reports when we finally do go. We have grown up eating similar diets, and have similar dental hygiene habits.

        1. Hi, Shelby

It certainly sounds like her diet is very healthy.

Do you think she might have an allergy to gluten? I ask because if she is eating gluten and she is allergic, it would cause malabsorption, and that might cause cavities.

Is she on a good probiotic? Is she eating liver and/or shellfish at least weekly? Is she getting cod liver oil? Does she get homemade broth?

          1. I pray to God that she does not have an allergy to gluten, lol. Ugh! I suspect so many of us have a sensitivity to it, though, it is in everything store bought. I try to keep from overloading her – like so many on an American diet – so that she she doesn’t develop a sensitivity. I should probably try cutting it out to see what would happen.

She has had probiotics at different points in her life, but I haven’t kept up with it recently. She has a good (sugar free, uses xylitol) multi vitamin and a Chinese herbal allergy med that she takes every day. She’s not eating liver/shellfish every week because…ew, liver (lol), and I’ve been reticent to give her shellfish bc of her other food allergies. I’m not giving her cod liver oil but should, and she does get homemade broth. Maybe I’ll add in the probiotics, fish oil, and try some shellfish.

I should also mention that, although her diet was *very* clean when we lived in SF until a year ago, it has been *much* harder to maintain her diet now that we live in the South. Yes, yes it has.

But that’s it for me for the fluoride treatments. I can’t do it in good conscience. We’ll try other things first and I’ll also talk to our acupuncturist about it to see if he has any Ayurvedic or Chinese fortifying solutions for her.

Thanks for the eye-opening post! I had read stuff like this when Zoe was younger and she was starting to get teeth, but had gotten a bit lax since we’re not surrounded by tons of like-minded families here (although there is a great community of holistic mamas out here in East TN, believe it or not) and I’m a few weeks away from the birth of my second.

            1. Try the US Wellness Meats liverwurst or Braunschweiger. Most kids like it.

Either that or give her dessicated liver caps. You can find them on my resources page.

I’d definitely cut out the gluten for a few weeks then reintroduce it and see how she reacts. That could be what is causing the malabsorption. If you guys have gluten intolerance, your next baby will likely have it too so it’s better to know now.

Fermented cod liver oil and butter oil is really a must if you want to prevent and heal cavities.

And yes I would definitely add the probiotics — I like BIokult or ThreeLac. There is also one called GutHealth which is supposed to be good but I haven’t personally tried it. These you have to order online. I have never found any storebought brands that actually work.

              Best of luck to you!

  9. AnnMarie, is there anything to the idea that toothpaste with fluoride is ok if you don’t swallow it? I thought topical application was the one time it was actually helpful, instead of ingesting it. I always buy or make toothpaste without it, just in case, but I’ve been wondering about this.

    1. We absorb a lot via the mucus membranes (mouth, nose, private parts) so I don’t think it’s a good idea to put anything in your mouth that is toxic.

I do not believe there is anything helpful about fluoride.

  10. I listened to this podcast last summer that first introduced me to the idea that fluoride might be something I might want to avoid. Here is the link to a podcast interview with Dr. Paul Connet on Our Natural LIfe.

  11. I’m so grateful to be living in a city that doesn’t fluoridate! One of the few left, it seems. I also wanted to ask if you’d heard the rumor that some of the popular anti-depressant drugs are fluoride based? I’ve heard that Fluoxetine (prozac) has a fluoride component, but am not sure of the truth of that. Do you happen to know either way? I don’t take them myself, but I know so many people who do.

  14. Here is some interesting information that the TEA industry would rather you not know. ECGC is one of the main therapeutic compounds in tea. You get a decent amount in average brewed tea. If you make your “white” tea very strong like I do you probably get around 10 times that amount. Not satisfied with that I bought some tea extract, a brown powder that is basically dried liquid tea. I would take perhaps 500 milligrams to 1 gram per day. After around 6 months of that my left hip started to ache to the point where I had to life my leg to get it into the car. Then I had remembered that Tea extracts fluoride from the ground and concentrates it into the leaves especially the leaves used to make junk teas like Lipton. I stopped the powdered tea extract and reduced the concentration of my liquid tea. The pain in my hip dropped around 95% in the first week! Fast forward 2 years. Now occasionally I will get pain in both hips if I drink a large strong cup of “white” tea.

Obviously Tea contains a lot of fluoride. It will accumulate over years and probably is an unknown cause/initiator of bone diseases. In my case I produced in 1 year what will happen to people drinking “too” much tea in 30 years. Fortunately I was able to prove cause and affect and will be extremely wary now about all fluoride sources. The slow insidious accumulation in bones and joints will prevent people and doctors from making that easy association. I wonder what percentage of hip replacements are related to fluoride buildup in hip bone sockets? This fluoride buildup can be very small and still have major effects like throwing a small amount of powdered glass into a car engine. I am sure a doctor would have diagnosed my hip pain as early onset arthritis and given me cortisone! So if you want to experience quickly the pain of fluoridosis buy some powdered tea extract high in ECGC and take if for 6 months or so. If you want to experience it in 30 years, drink more than two cups a day of typically brewed tea. I also grant that perhaps the fluoride merely increases inflammation of an arthritic joint and might not be causal however scientists are “just now” finding out that low, imperceptible levels of joint inflammation “cause” arthritis!!!!!!

  23. Okay so I read this article and then I read all the comments. You people are all just sad, if I was your child I’d kill myself. It’s not natural or healthy, any if these comments. This argument on Fluoride is almost the same as on Vaccines. Guess what, I almost died last year because my mother refused to vaccinate me. For every person who blames vaccines on awful mental problems, i understand your pain and need too blame it on something. but it is no reason to ‘educate’ a mother on lies and then have her daughter almost die at 17. And if your all so worried that you and your children will topple over dead from Fluoride then why don’t you move to Europe? Go deal with the more colorful water problems there. Try Italy. Or, be like me and end up in an Italian hospital. The radiation from your cell phones and your computers are more likely to get you before Fluoride ever does. Just a thought.

    1. Not vaccinating people is wrong because it endangers the unvaccinated child AND all the other children they come into contact with. So I agree with you on that point. Unsubstantiated claims are dumb.

BUT, the claims that fluoride is toxic is not unsubstantiated! Fluoride has been proven to be harmful again and again. It is not a nutrient, and it is a by-product of the aluminum, fertilizer, and nuclear industries. Not a natural mineral. It causes hypothyroidism, in every scientific study done. Hypothyroidism is an epidemic in the US.

Being skeptical is fine, but before you lump all ideas into one thing, at least do a little research and decide for yourself if there’s a scientific basis or not!

  25. Sandra Felippo, I’m sorry but you don’t know what you’re talking about. There is abundant evidence that water fluoridation and other sources of fluoride are harmful to human health. If you are not prepared to spend the time researching the issue, consider that 14 Nobel prize winners in either Medicine or Chemistry have opposed fluoridation. I have an education in science, and concluded that fluoride was causing me major health problems because the evidence for it eventually became overwhelming. You are obviously confused, because vaccines and fluoride are completely separate issues.

    1. you probablly believe mainstream science when it says that we are going through global warming or that the earth is billions of years old and that people never existed with dinosaurs.

did you know that clay figurines of dinosaurs (and people riding on the dinosaurs) have been found across the world like in peru and mexico? they show the fleshy scales on their backs that we didnt even realize existed until about 1980. now, with “modern science” dating methods, these clay figurines have been dated at about 1000-1500 years old. do you remember when “modern science” first “discovered” dinosaur bones??? … yea 1800’s…

take “modern science” with a grain of salt. i have been to medical school, law school, engineering graduate, and undergrad. i am a tested member of mensa with an IQ of 158. I believe that Jesus is God and my Savior. I think this earth is less than 10000 years old. i have NEVER had a cavity, im in my mid 30’s, and i regularly brush with fluroide toothpaste.

i am not saying i know FOR SURE that fluoride is bad or good. i am saying that after 30 years of using fluoride toothpaste, and even soaking my teeth in it… i have continued to function above my peers in terms of mental ability, ive had great kids with no apparent problems, i do not exhibit signs of physical problems, 148 cholesterol, 120/80 bp, etc etc etc….

oh and i have gotten all of my recommended shots. ive traveled the world, even gotten extra shots.

      thoughts?

  26. Why just give up fluoride? What about Vitamin A. If vitamin A builds up in our system, it can lead to increased pressure in the brain, dizziness, nausea, headaches, skin irritation, pain in joints and bones, coma, and even death. It can cause congenital birth defects, including malformations of the eye, skull, lungs, and heart. Who can stand that! We have to eliminate Vitamin A from our diets. What about calcium. We don’t need it. Excessively high levels of calcium can cause kidney failure, hardening of blood vessels and muscle, high levels of calcium in the urine, kidney stones, constipation and prostate cancer. Why end there? Why not give up iron, after all it is used in all the metals, construction of machinery and machine tools, automobiles, the hulls of large ships, and structural components for buildings, for making graphite, wrought iron, for production of ammonia, to produce fuels, lubricants, water purification, sewage treatment, dyeing process, and to make cement to list some industrial uses. All these use iron, so therefore iron cannot be good for you since it has industrial uses as well. Why not give up zinc too. After all it is used in making brass, in pipe organs, die castings, building facades, roofs, in paints, cosmetics, in making rubber, to protect from UV radiation, as a fire retardant, wood preservative, in clocks, TV screens,as a propellant, in making nuclear weapons, and as a fungicide to name a few. I am sure zinc and iron cannot be good for humans since they have such terrible unhealthy industrial uses. Let’s eliminate them from our foods!

    1. Johanna, your argument is ridiculous. Vitamin A, calcium, iron, and zinc are essential nutrients, but fluoride is not. The nutrients you mentioned are also not dumped into water supplies, which is the most primitive method imaginable of administering anything which is supposed to benefit health, and which does not allow for individual choice. Furthermore, double-blind studies have shown that a significant proportion of the population are sensitive to fluoride, and suffer symptoms at doses to which people living in fluoridated areas are routinely exposed. Then there is the fact that the countries with high rates of fluoridation also have high and increasing rates of health conditions which have been linked to fluoride, such as obesity, diabetes, and musculoskeletal disorders. Try educating yourself, instead of talking rubbish.

        1. There have been several statements indicating that fluoride is not an essential nutrient. No symptoms of fluoride “deficiency” have ever been identified. Breastmilk is extremely low fluoride, thanks to a biological mechanism which keeps it out. The first words in the abstract of the European Commission’s Scientific Committee on Health and Environmental Risks 2011 report titled “Critical review of any new evidence on the hazard profile, health effects, and human exposure to fluoride and the fluoridating agents of drinking water” are: “Fluoride is not an essential element for human growth and development”.

  32. You might as well starve yourself, because if floride is in the water, how the hell does the crops get watered. People we can’t avoid it. We can decrease how much, but we can’t avoid it.

  33. I’m wondering if there’s any way at all to “de-tox” from fluoride. Sounds like it stores up in your bones, glands and brain and you’re basically screwed if you grew up in america. So have there been any studies or any known ways to get it out of your system? I’ll definitely do my best to limit intake from this point and for my child, but what about those of us who grew up on fluoridated tap water? Also, is it such a small molecule that most filters don’t get any of it? Why is it so hard to find a filter for it? (has to be either distilled, RO or berkey from what I gather).

  34. It’s weird because the nutirionists at WIC encourage you to give your babies and children fluoride water ..but I tell them I don’t give that to him because I think that fluoride is bad for you and he will get it soon enough in other products that are hard to avoid. She looks at me like im crazy and goes on to say how important it is for teeth and building strong teeth etc…just kinda strange….

  35. Here in Portland, Oregon we just voted NO on fluoridated water (again)! Add beer from Portland, Oregon to your list of safe beer to drink.

  36. A berkey water filter w/ the flouride filters should be a fixture in everyone’s house. It is the cheapest way to filter your water and is a great investment.

  37. I buy bottled spring water hopefully it doesn’t have fluoride. My comment is on the same shelf was bottled water for babies with extra fluoride for your babies health it was recommended to mix with formula. It was almost sold out, unbelievable, next time i will take a pic.

  38. Those fluoride pushers SHOULD BE used as dartboards…..

MOST people are so uninformed on this nasty nasty toxin….makes me sick sick sick.

  39. There are MEGA brands of Toothpaste with NO added fluoride….I wouldn’t touch a TP with fluoride…

For the last several months, I have been making my own TP with Coconut Oil, Diatamacous Earth, Baking Soda and drops of Clove or Anise etc. Like the
results with my homemade TP and no chemicals added at all.

  40. Hmm… I wonder if a detox reaction is why taking iodine (and other things that are supposed to be good) causes me so much pain. Also, I used to get a filter for my undersink water filter that would take out fluoride but the guy I got them from stopped selling them because he found ( in a lab) that it was putting mercury (I think it was mercury) in the water so the negatives outweighed the positive. So I’m wary of any filters that they take it out and cannot afford a reverse osmosis system.

  41. im a German that lives in the Netherlands, and i have to say they banned NOTHING over here in Europe.. they still put that shit in our water, and always been doing so, and will continue to do so.. where did you get the information that it was banned over here? please do your research proper before posting false facts, specially on important topics like this right here… have a nice day

    1. Forced-fluoridation has not been banned throughout Europe, but Europe is predominantly unfluoridated. The Netherlands and West Germany stopped force-fluoridating in the 1970s, and East Germany in 1990 when the Berlin Wall came down.

  42. I tend to avoid extremism. Rarely is there ever just one right answer. Cavities are caused by a COMBINATION of factors. Diet, genetics, plaque build-up, acidity and bacteria (promote decay). Healthy teeth require a combination of factors too.

I don’t get the fluoridation madness in this country. I’ve heard both sides of the argument but don’t believe the benefits outweigh the risks. It probably is similar to corn syrup, in that someone somewhere is making money off this stuff and public health promotes the benefits, without equally educating about the risks.

My dentist was on a panel of experts who advocated for fluoridation in my home county (largely populated). I asked him why. He said that most middle- and upper-class folks drink filtered or bottled water, which lack fluoride. They tend to have better hygiene, nutrition and frequent dental visits. Whereas lower SES folks, who tend to have poorer nutrition and rarely if ever seek dental care, are drinking ta water. These folks are at greater risk of developing caries.

So let me get this straight..We compromise our foods (what we put in our mouths) with preservatives, pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, GMOs, additives, chemicals and heavy toxic metals. The FDA overlooks it because there’s big $$ involved. Why would we give a damn about whether people of lower-SES develop dental caries?

  43. I strongly disagree that if you can’t breastfeed then the best alternative is homemade formula. It’s not, breast milk is. There is a huge global network of peer-to-peer milksharing groups like HM4HB (human milk 4 human babies), Eats on Feet etc.

My daughter has drunk donor milk since 5 weeks due to my breast reconstruction as a teen. She’s now six months and doing great!

  44. Mentioning that most of Eurpoe doesn’t use water fluoration in the context you did is pretty misleading. The reason for these contries not fluoridating water supplies is not due to health concerns, but because fluoride in these countries comes from other sources, for example fluoridated table salt.

    1. You don’t know what you’re talking about. Only four European countries have fluoridated salt, and the water supplies are predominantly low in fluoride. Forced-fluoridation has been rejected for health and ethical reasons.

One ought be careful but the question is, how does rural dwellers especially farmers get to know this? what is the role of government and health agencies on this issues?

  47. So cigarettes have fluoride? Are you telling me cigarettes might not be safe? Odds are if I’m smoking cigarettes I’m not too worried about fluoride.

  48. Its worse than everyone thinks, Check out the USDA list of selected foods and Beverages to be Fluoridated some time.

  49. Hi there! I have a question about toothpaste. Every time, when my youngest son has a cavity, the dentist always makes sure I’m using toothpaste with flouride, and I’ve just always understood it as that’s supposed to help with cavities. Long story short, they act like we need it. I guess my question is, what’s the truth and what toothpaste would you suggest, especially for my boys?

    Thank you

when i read “avoid bottled water” i immediately decided to look up the one i buy, because i was always sure they don’t add it to bottled water, just tap water (and then it remains in some bottled water if it’s not filtered out, that’s why i buy spring water)…so i looked up the one i buy (crystal geyser) which is one of the cheapest if you buy it in 1gallon bottles and they do not add fluoride! yay!
it can contain a tiny amount of naturally occurring fluoride, but i think that possible super small amount is still better than what’s in tap water…

  52. Im 58 and lost all my moler teeth. Mostly Amalgamum murcery filing. I am extreemly food and chemicly sensitive. Especialy aluminum. Which is what floride is derived from.
I feel especialy tired in the morning after a evening shower. And ive read that the skin absorbs chemicals.
We presently have a faucet filter and are ecology minded of the HUGE plastic bottle explosion. Also many bottled water companys lie…yes LIE.
Why would anyone defend the industry or gov unless they in working for them.
    Follow the money…..

  53. And theres Anti freeze in many popular tooth paste. Its called glycol. Poison.
Also I am extreemly chemical sensitive as are millions of americans do to poor foods. chemicaly treated foods. Refined foods. GMO foods. Artificial foods. Etc.
I also developed a bad flora called Candida Ablican. Its bad culture in the gut.
It developed into what they now call LEAKY GUT.
This means the colon has become a bacteria farm and the natural flora ( acidopholis) had deminished greatly. Then the bad flora candida drilled tiny holes thru the colon to allow partially undigested food into the blood.
Candida ablican overgrowth may well be the fastest growing health condition in the US do to junk food and chemicals and over ingesting floride from many sources including water.
All the above supporters of gov and industry capitalizers need to be polite and respectful those who are victomized. No im not just targeting tap water.

    1. Sorry that you are accusing bacteria as the cause of Candida when it is fungus as the culprit. STOP the intake of refined carbs/grains and increase your dietary consumption of fermented foods like kimchi/sauerkraut. Do increase your intake of probiotics, too.

Typical of our governments, whether its city, county, state or the Feds, they “think” they know whats good for us ! We seem to be doomed. Besides having a communist President, our Congress is bought and paid for and will never do anything “for the people”. The only way we will change,is not to expect another Rep/Dem President or the same with Congress, because BOTH parties have screwed our country over and over again, but to start from the bottom and work up. Of course it would help if we could somehow get rid of our manipulated news media !!

  58. One thing that I’m always amazed at is people who’ve never been somewhere (ie, lived there for an extended period (ie, years)) purport to know something about those places because they’ve read something about it. Here’s what I know, and I’ve lived in Europe: Spain, Netherlands, UK, and Eastern Europe.

Do they fluoridate the water? I don’t really know.

even based on what they officially say, I still don’t know.

Why don’t I trust what they officially say?

Because European governments are notorious deceivers in my book. Their laws concerning disclosure of product and water ingredients are incredibly deceiving and I have doubts that those are even fully complied with.

This is all hearsay you say? Yes, it is. But I have good reason to NOT trust ANY of them. Because in each country in which I have lived I have seen such groos negligence and non-compliance, that there is no way that they are actually fulfilling what they say.

In the NL with peanut butter. I read a label “All Natural Peanut Butter” Pinda Kaas, of course. The ingredients read: Peanuts

I’ve made peanut butter for 20 years and have eaten all manner of homemade and store bought “natural” peanut butters and I know what peanut butter with only peanuts tastes like. The peanut butter in the NL that I’m referring to tasted like my mother’s peanut butter cookie dough when I was a child..just after she added the sugar, brown sugar, and shortening, vanilla. Peanut butter only EVER needs one thing: peanuts.

In Spain, go to the Decathlon store near the processing plant, right next to the beach in Barcelona. Smell the air. Actually, don’t. You’ll gag on it. In fact, don’t do it within five miles of that area. If that’s compliance with some clean air thing, I’m Tom Sawyer. And they’re water, it is much better than in Eastern Eruope, but I doubt that it is clean.

In the UK, there is so much red tape, even if they don’t put fluoride in the water, they do something else.

In Eastern Europe, the water systems are so old that if they aren’t full of poisons, write the pope and ask for a miracle declaration.

In France, I only lived there for a few months, but VERY few people drink water from the tap. Why? I don’t know. But they don’t.

Germany? I wouldn’t trust the German government anymore than the Dutch (the NL).

  59. Thank you Ann Marie for this informative article! I do limit the exposure to fluoride as much as I can. I pretty much avoid it in the way as you describe it under “how to avoid fluoride”. Although so, I usually buy organic wine and beer instead of imported bottles from europe. I belief that producers of organic products do take care of quality of the water for their products as well. At least, I hope so.

  72. I know this is an old article, but there are also people who have severe sensitivity to fluoride. In the 80s, we discovered this sensitivity(not allergy because flouride is not an allergen) in my younger sister. We had start taking the fluoride tabs while brushing our teeth. She began to have inflammation in her hands to the point that her knuckles split and bled. Everything went back to normal once she discontinued the tabs. This experience in childhood allowed me to recognize the sensitivity in my son 30 years later. We had just gotten a prescription from the doctor for a liquid vitamin which happened to contain fluoride. In less than 24 hours after ingesting, he developed an instant welting diaper rash. I immediately stopped the vitamins. I tried it a month later with the same results. Never used them again. When we started brushing his teeth, we used a non-fluoride toothpaste just to be safe. One day Grandma brushed his teeth and forgot the correct paste, same welting diaper rash. I know this is all anecdotal, but I’m convinced that fluoride sensitivity runs in my family!

    1. Yeah——“sensitivity” that can cause death. I was diagnosed in 1960 with an allergy to fluoride—–it is still SERIOUS whether it is a sensitivity or an allergy—DEATH serious. I’m sure it DOES run in your family. I have been angry most of my life because the water. WATER. is fluoridated.

  73. I am ALLERGIC to fluoride. I was diagnosed with this allergy in 1965, when I was 15. (not too long after fluoride was touted as a wonderful thing and put in the water and toothpaste.) I get a rash every time I shower. I have boiled my water ALWAYS before ingesting it. Baking soda to brush my teeth. Most of my life I have been branded a “kook” because WHO is allergic to water?? I am so grateful to this danger being brought to the forefront. The needs of the many have always outweighed the desires of the few—-I am unfortunate to be one of the few—but apparently, not really so few, according to the research—-

Not sure if my last comment posted so I’ll write this again.

Another tricky one that not many discuss is grocery stores spraying your non organic AND organic produce with fluoridated water. That shady sprinkler system that sometimes goes off when you go to grab your produce is what nobody discusses. Non organic already contains fluoride but dousing organic produce with it is just a crime!

Also restaurants and farmers markets who say their produce is organic but isn’t.. ask questions!

    What you do think Ann?

    Thank you!!
