Anders Tegnell, Sweden's State Epidemiologist May 8 2020:
Lockdowns can stop the spread
Countries that do so have lots of people uninfected
For Tegnell both are bad. He never bothered taking in data on deaths, on ICU load. With him, Sweden still fights reality & reality wins

Thank you for this thread. Journalists should have done this critical analysis a long time ago.

Kids getting back to schools next week, 2 weeks for the first wave to develop, 2 more weeks till 2nd... Prediction (and I hope I'm wrong this time): new deaths spike by September 14th so reported about 23rd.

Keep an eye on the timeline in The Netherlands too. The strategy seems to be very similar.

Thank for this thread! I don’t remember how many times I’ve seen Swedes saying « I’m so tired of hearing that the strategy is to reach herd immunity. Tegnell never said that! »

scandinavian numbers:
Sweden (popul.: 10 mil.): 83k cases / 5770 deaths;
Norway (5 mil.): 9k / 256;
Finland (5,5 mil.): 7k / 333.
“herd immunity” policy multiplied deaths (rate by population 11 times higher than in the neighboring states)!

Try replacing “herd immunity” for “byproduct of our strategy”: byproduct of our strategy - where we need to go; Stockholm can reach byproduct of our strategy in May; goal = byproduct of our strategy; begin to see the effects of the byproduct of our strategy; etc.

Stockholm has herd immunity so it is possible. Only 8 in intensive care today (used to be hundreds in april). No covid19 deaths in a fortnight (used to be 50 a day in april). Safest place to visit or to be visited from.
2
Skåne has 4 today and has had as Low as 1 in ICU. And we are no where near heard immunity... how do you explain that? Schools closed for 2,5 months maybe?

The past was alterable. The past never had been altered. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia.

Nevermind herd immunity in Sweden. Denmark has currently got the risk of becoming Europe’s Wuhan due to infected 3 million mink in fur farms. COVID-19is showing mutation, farmer-mink-farmer, possibly making vaccine redundant or ineffective new info finds.

No matter how dumb a government has been, and how poorly they have dealt with Covid-19, they can always point to Sweden as an example where their government has been far worse.

Just back from Sweden. Close to 'old normal' there, except for arts and sports (events only <50 people). Extra recommendations for some regions to be extra safe. Overwhelming majority of scientists/public are behind this. FHM currently enjoys its highest support rating.

You might need to return to Sweden and update your findings.
