Technology becomes even faster…. Again

As a lot of you probably already know  Thunderbolt technology is a new I/O  that allows for the transfer of data at an incredible speed and has been released last month.

Thunderbolt technology was developed by Intel (under the code name Light Peak), and brought to market with technical collaboration from Apple. Thunderbolt I/O technology has two channels on the same connector with up to 10 Gbps of throughput in both directions on a single cable. This makes data transfer 20 times faster than usb 2.0, 12 times faster than FireWire 800 and 5 times faster than usb 3.0.

This video shows a demonstration of Light Peak and the capabilities of this technology.

It is amazing to think that in a few years from now that this technology will become old and speeds will become even faster. This speed and processing power leaves one to wonder, when is technological advancements going to level off? Or will it keep advancing so much as to have an average toaster able to operate a power plant?

3D art continued

This week I thought I would post a bit more on my last weeks blog on 3D art and illustrations.

During the week I was looking at a studio based in Sydney called “kollected”.  It is owned and run by Nick Kaloterakis, a 3D/VFX artist who has worked as a senior 3D/VFX artist for 12 years. Most of his work is experimental and looks like concept art but it is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. His interests in photography and graphic design are clearly visible throughout the studios work. Although kollected’s work is nearly all commercial as is to be expected from any studio, the works from my perspective appear they could be art in a gallery.

here are a few examples of work done by the “kollected” studio and the link to the website http://www.kollected.com/# its really cool!

3D art

After using 3D Studio MAX In the start of my 3rd year of multimedia, I have become really interested in 3D applications and the world of the 3D industry’s in films, animation, gaming and art. Over the last year i have steadily been learning how to use Maya and though it has been really challenging, it has been extremely fun.

This week I thought I would post about some 3D art pieces that really inspired me.

The first is called Eternal Life Energy 2:

This was created by Kim Stapleton (ev-one)  from Australia. These are his comments on the piece of work:

“A continuation of the themes explored in the first eternal life piece. In an attempt to harness the key to eternal life, man has captured the tree in the hope of harvesting its life energy. But can the energy be contained………………? Also a protest to the Australian Governments’ plans to ‘filter’ the internet in our country. They will soon learn you can not contain and control the growth of ideas. Life will prevail. Universal balance will be maintained.”

I myself really found this piece inspiring as the level of light that is coming off the tree over powers the white tiled walls. The clean and clinical tiled walls that in-close the tree are in complete contrast to the flowing life of the tree symbolizing the ideals behind the piece. When looking at 3D pieces like this I find myself more interested in trying to see how it was made but in this piece it is the ideas behind it that are the most interesting thing to me.

The piece was created using 3Ds MAX 8, V-Ray and Photoshop.

Other work done by Kim Stapleton include:

Eternal Life Energy 1:

1979:

The Hornet:

Re-creating existing objects

This is just a quick post about some art/design work i found that i thought was really cool and different. Im not to sure who made these but the i have put a link to the page i found them on below. This is just a small example:
