ExtremeCloud IQ is the simplest, easiest network management system yet. From the guided network policy configuration that breaks the policy into logical sections while displaying your progress along the top of the GUI to numerous monitoring improvements, such as sliders that you can drag to determine any time period shown in a chart, this GUI makes device management task-oriented rather than feature-oriented. Features appear as you need them to perform a task, making it unnecessary to search through the GUI to find them.

Upgrading ExtremeCloud IQ Virtual Appliance
Version 12 of IQ Virtual Appliance introduced an improved architecture that expands and optimizes back-end functionality, while reducing the footprint. As a result of the change in architecture, special considerations are required during the upgrade process from version 11.26.3.5 to any version using the new architecture.
Upgrading to ExtremeCloud IQ Virtual Appliance 20.1.5.2
The following upgrade paths are supported when upgrading to IQ Virtual Appliance 20.1.5.2 using the Virtual Appliance Management System:
- IQ Virtual Appliance 20.1.4.3 to IQ Virtual Appliance 20.1.5.2 only
- Only upgrade from and to the versions specified. Attempting to upgrade across unsupported upgrade paths can result in unpredictable behavior.

Upgrading from ExtremeCloud IQ Virtual Appliance 11.26.3.5 to 12.8
You can upgrade from IQ Virtual Appliance version 11.26.3.5 to version 12.8, but you cannot upgrade directly on the same VM through the GUI. Instead, the process requires a fresh installation of the version 12.8 to a new VM.
During this process, you must download image files or export VHM files that are very large. To ensure that your upgrade goes smoothly, delete or archive unneeded images or files that might take up disk space and affect performance. The complete upgrade path from 11.26.3.5 to 12.8 is as follows:

2. Install The IQ Virtual Appliance 11.26.3.6 Upgrade Package
The 11.26 upgrade package introduces Virtual IQ export capabilities that facilitate the transfer of Virtual IQ information from the source Virtual IQ to the new Virtual IQ.
To install the upgrade package, do the following:
Back up your virtual machine by using the Snapshot feature of Vmware vCenter. The snapshot feature makes a complete backup of the virtual machine, including both the data and the software.
When your backup is complete, begin the upgrade by navigating to Account Details > Upgrade HiveManager, clicking Upload Patch and Upgrade, choosing the file (hivemanager-ng-upgrade-pack-<version>-<date>.tar.signed)you saved previously, and then clicking Open in the dialog.
3. Export Your ExtremeCloud IQ Virtual Machine:
In ExtremeCloud IQ, click Admin > Global Settings > VHM Management > Export VHM, click Export Now, and then confirm by clicking Yes.
Depending on the extent of your current network configuration, the export process can take several minutes. For very small configurations with few rules, few objects and profiles, and few devices, exporting the VHM can take as little as one minute.

Because client data (monitoring, alarm, and event data) is not exported, you can only retain client data in the form of reports. When you upgrade to IQ Virtual Appliance 12.8, client data in the database is lost.
4. Download The Exported Virtual Machine File:
When ExtremeCloud IQ exports your Virtual IQ file, it makes it available for download within ExtremeCloud IQ itself and prompts you to log in to ExtremeCloud IQ to access it. You might need to log out, log back in, and then click Admin > Global Settings > Virtual IQ Management to download the file.
5. Install IQ Virtual Appliance 12.8:
Upgrading from IQ Virtual Appliance 11.26 to IQ Virtual Appliance 12.8 requires a new installation because of the enhancements in the back-end architecture; there is no direct update path from v11.26.3.5 to v12.8.

6. Import Your Virtual IQ File Into IQ Virtual Appliance 12.8:
To import your Virtual IQ file into IQ Virtual Appliance, click Admin > Global Settings > VHM Management > Import VHM, choose the file you exported in step 3, and then click Import Now.
- You can also choose how ExtremeCloud IQ responds to error conditions during the importation process. If you want the import process to halt when an error is encountered, select Abort (default). If you want IQ Virtual Appliance to continue importing the file until completion without halting, select Continue.
7. Manually Change Device Statuses And Upload Configurations To Devices
When you import your Virtual IQ into IQ Virtual Appliance 12.8, the devices are imported in an unmanaged state. Because of this, IQ Virtual Appliance ignores device connection attempts. To allow your devices to connect to ExtremeCloud IQ, manually change the status of your devices to Managed.
To ensure that your devices are running the latest configuration updates in the context of the new architecture, be sure to upload full configurations to all your devices.

Connect to the server using any standard SFTP client with the credentials provided in the email that also contains the entitlement key. Navigate to Software Downloads > Current Software Releases to find the current version of IQ Virtual Appliance. The upgrade pack file name has the following format and is accompanied by a brief description of the file and the MD5 checksum value:
hivemanager-ng-upgrade-pack-<version>-<date>.tar.signed
Be sure to note the save location of the file, or choose a download location that is easy to find, such as on the Desktop.
Back up your virtual machine by using the Snapshot feature of Vmware vCenter. The snapshot feature makes a complete backup of the virtual machine, including both the data and the software.
When your backup is complete, begin the upgrade by navigating to Account Details > Upgrade HiveManager, clicking Upload Patch and Upgrade, choosing the file you saved in Step 1, and then clicking Open in the dialog.
