that whole thing is really complicated. A lot of rabbis would disagree with you on what is required, but on the other hand a lot would agree with you. I went through this when I got married and after a bunch of education, was told...well you know none of this "counts"

Here’s what’s not complicated: it’s not okay to question the status of a Jew if you weren’t on their beit din. Nothing is to be gained from it. I understand that some Jews won’t accept my Conservative conversion, but this is not Marina’s place.

With all due respect, if the children are brought up Jewish then they are Jewish. May not be orthodox Halacha (and I’m certainly not defending her) but the rigidity of conversion rules can be alienating and raise unnecessary tensions and prejudice within the Jewish community.

My nieces are Jewish. Their mother is in the process of a liberal conversion, but just because she isn’t Jewish under archaic and orthodox laws does not mean my nieces won’t have Jewish hearts and be raised with Jewish values.

I don't know what the right answer is, but probably best not to take it out on the kids, who have Jewish heritage (their dad is) if they aren't "Jewish" if the maternal link isn't real..if that's the thing here. Let's leave them off the hook.

Were you on her beit din? No? Then you have no right to be speaking in this way. Go after her speech and actions, hold her accountable for her corruption and active participation in monstrous doings, but this kind of talk harms all Jews by choice and it's not OK.

Depends how you define "Jewish." My mother did finish the conversion, though not with an Orthodox rabbi, so when I moved to Israel for a few years, I was aware that there would be privileges of citizenship that was not Jewish enough for. Decided I didn't care - I define me.

So many reasons, but forcing so many progressive Jews to defend Ivanka is really sucky. We can hate her without attacking her Jewishness and causing harm to all the other Jews by choice that you're ALSO throwing under the bus here.

I hate all of this. Sorry my dad is my link to judaism. I was raised in the faith, named, bat mitzvahed, have led let services, got married in a temple and am raising my children in the faith. Her kids are Jewish, full stop. Also leave them out of this.
