What if activists aren’t PR firms for politicians & their demands are bc police budgets are exploding, community resources are shrinking to bankroll it, & ppl brought this up for ages but it wasn’t until they said “defund” that comfortable people started paying attn to brutality

The thing that critics of activists don’t get is that they tried playing the “polite language” policy game and all it did was make them easier to ignore. It wasn’t until they made folks uncomfortable that there was traction to do ANYTHING even if it wasn’t their full demands.

You feeling uncomfortable now? This is bad when it’s from the left and right. You didn’t help.

preach, sis. progressives are the ones moving the needle/getting the ball rolling/disrupting the status quo ENOUGH so that it can begin to change!! soooo often, moderates adopt progressive agendas when it becomes acceptable/PR-okay to do so...

...and then moderates will get the credit for change that was so often built on the backs of progressives' groundwork. not trying to spew further discord in the Democratic party but like
🙇‍♀️
it must be so frustrating for progressives in leadership positions.

I don't think saying "Defund the police" makes policy-makers uncomfortable per-se. I think (not to assume) what Obama is trying to say is that it's too generalized a statement. A too-simple answer for a complex issue that then can get dismissed. Still agree with the movement.

Not complicated in that Black lives obviously matter but that funding of the police can be redistributed to important things like improved mental health and discrimination awareness, trigger discipline training and situation defusing instead of taken away completely.

Yes, the point of protesting is to make people uncomfortable into *changing their minds* AND to support your cause. Saying "fuck you" to someones face will make them uncomfortable but it won't get them to support your cause.

Exactly! They only listened up when it became an issue of $, or lack thereof for the police dept. And yet all these weaklings on both sides are freaking out about the idea of limited police protection. It's already limited, u are at the mercy of the quality of cop that shows up!

Nancy has the opportunity she claims she’s always wanted, says she has the rally signs in her garage, #MedicareForAll and the people are not going to settle for less anymore. It. Is. Ridiculous. At. This. Point. What more does she need? What more?

here’s what you can do.

It’s Time for you to make Nancy Pelosi “UNCOMFORTABLE”, and demand she bring Med4all up for vote or you will make her “Uncomfortable” by withholding you vote for her as speaker. If you do that, you get a Med4all vote, now us the time, stop being a twitter warrior and do this ! twitter.com/AOC/status/133…

And when they refuse to listen to you or refuse to try to get them Med4All despite Mama Bear and they say things like F her...that's not VIOLENCE...is it?

This is EXACTLY what Jimmy Dore & other activists have been doing & now that ur feeling uncomfortable, you turn it around and attack the activist; accusing them of violence. Which is it? Ur either for activists or against them - you can't be both.
