Yah, Can you recommend me a very comprehensive book about Sherman? He just seems like an incredible, larger-than-life man.
This thread will devolve into a person or people dumping 100s of images of which have thousands of books that are literally just ripped from "Oxford's guide to" books (just Google the descriptions, you'll probably end up with the same quote in a google.books page. Some are custom made however from books that the folks actually read, which is much nicer because if I wanted a bibliography I'd just go to libgen

Has anyone read this book? It's about the fall of the Western Roman empire, but with a focus on the role of climate and disease played. It's got good reviews and recommendations on Amazon.

I'm not a historian but an architect with a history hobby and I compiled the charts from book threads on /his/ from recommended books on topics that I have an interest on or my interest was piqued. On this /his/ overview chart the major complaint was that I had a lot of WWI books so I ended up creating a separate chart which you see here in the OP. I took the time to look up reviews of the books and to remove books that had too many complaints about being biased or one-sided and kept and added those that had generally positive reviews in regards to remaining neutral, well sourced, with good bibliographies, and generally well laid thesis. From this WWI chart I have read about 10 books and have been happy with what I have read and so I have faith that most of the books on here are excellent recommendations for anyone interested in the subject and despite the lack of time, I'm happy to accept more recommendations to add to this chart and the other /his/ chart, since I know there are various books out there that I have missed.

Covers the entire history of Jerusalem in chronological order, from its founding and the Biblical kings of David and Solomon to the current issues with Israel and Palestine. It's broken up into many parts, each one dedicated to the current rulers of Jerusalem (e.g. Romans, Arabs, Ottomans). It's a very interesting book, although there's far more time given over to the 20th century than I would have liked. The modern era just isn't as interesting as the classical and medieval eras for this specific place, in my opinion.

It was an interesting read, although I could have done without the author's self-interests of him and his son travelling around modern Istanbul. Those were dull and unnecessary.

It was too painful for Mommsen to write about the death of Caesar, so it ends with him. The author was the most respected and admired academic of Prussia. I read somewhere that Theodor Mommsen was the only person aside from the King for whom the Prussian hymn was played when he entered a room.

The American Heritage Picture History of the Civil War is an absolute must for the American Civil War. Incredible depictions of major battles and their major moments, great graphs and maps showing the macro as well as the micro, and a whole slew of paintings, drawings, pictures, posters, and more, all contemporary to it. Probably my favorite light-reading history book ever, got it for $3 at a local bookstore

Just finished reading it and he's one of the few French enlisted men to give a thorough account of his time in the war. He's also one of the few people to be in active duty from 1914-1918.
