If we’d wanted to exploit Vietnam, we would’ve eradicated the North and flattened all of the South’s jungles through fire and deforestation — and we would’ve turned it into a pasture, instead of the largely backwards rice patties that it still is.

You do realize that South Vietnam tried to be autonomous ‘from’ North Vietnam, right — and that the North invaded them with Chinese and Russian backing, right? The US got ‘nothing’ out of Vietnam, but it sacrificed 50,000 of its lifeblood trying to protect...
