Wonderful Things to Cross-cultural understanding

When Going to the homestay has been determined, I always imaged Kansas City and I went to America with my worry heart. In Mayor courtesy call at the sister city training, I was overwhelmed when I met him. But, his face was spilling good atmosphere and kindly smile and it also had changed my mind from worry to sense of security. Some local people had explained me about the facility many times. When I heard size of facility and so on, I overwhelmed and moved. When on the way of the sister city training, I could see my image of Kansas’s view that sky is very huge and blue, there is a fountain under the sky, there are grass and some tree around fountain and people enjoy resting their free day. Then, I was very excited.
My host family were so kind. They reaction bright and smile. My worry heart was disappeared by their kind heart. They anytimes helped me and made many interesting plan. I played shopping, sightseeing, history museum, watch the baseball game, and so on. Also home party with neighborhoods, washing car, BBQ, made a dinner or snack, chops, they had me played a lot of things. I thought Kansas people are very kind, so every day were very very interesting and this week is so fast!!
At first, It is difficult for me to understand English. But I tried listening many time. They had changed easy word and told carefully. To return the thanks, I made lapanese food. When they said “Delicious!”, I was very glad. And I also taught their easy Japanese and about Kurashiki. Tow host family guy’s had cherished the time when they play something together and listen my story. Therefore, I could spend really wonderful weeks. At first, I couldn’t talk from myself. But I realized I told from myself many times.
Host family, person who lived in Kansas and I are different from country, practice, culture and so on. But I felt spirits of kind is same! I was convinced we have same heart! When Welcome party, I had cried. Because I felt“Thank you very much for everything.”“I don’t want to leave your home.”and I couldn’t sing a song. When Good-bye party, I cried again. Through this experience, I could learn many things. This experience taught me wonderful things, important things and so on. I think I could spend the most great time in my life. This is my best treasure forever! Thank you for people of Kurashiki International section, great leader Mr, Benson, gave me special memories Host family, my parents and my friends!!

異文化理解の素晴らしさ

ホームステイに行くことが決定してから、僕は毎日カンザスのことを想像し、少しの不安を持って今回の体験に望んだ。姉妹都市研修でカンザス市長表敬訪問の際、大きな体の市長に圧倒されたが、表情からにじみ出る雰囲気や笑顔は、僕の不安を安心感に変えてくれた。また、現地の方々がカンザス市の建物、高校、農場など様々な場所を案内してくれ、スケールの大きさに圧倒され、感動した。この研修の中で、僕のカンザス市のイメージであった青い空と緑の木々、彫刻をほどこした噴水からわき出る水の透明感の心地よい風景と、その周りでのんびり休暇を楽しむ優しい笑顔のカンザス市の人達を見たとき、感動と興奮を覚えた。
ホームステイでお世話になったホストファミリーも、未熟な英語力の僕にとても優しく、何事にも笑顔で明るく対応してくれ、初日で不安は全て無くなった。いつも僕のことを気にかけてくれ、毎日様々な計画を立ててくれて、ショッピングに観光、歴史美術館、野球観戦にも連れて行ってもらった。近所の家族でホームパーティをしたり、友達と遊んだりバーベキューをしたり、一緒に料理やお菓子作り、薪割り、洗車などたくさんのことを一緒にさせてもらった。ホストファミリーは、カンザス市の人は本当に優しくて毎日がとても楽しく、あっと言う間だった。
初めの数日間は、英語の聞き取りが難しく、何度も聞き直したが、飽きることなく、簡単な単語に変えて何度も説明してくれた。本当に何事にでも良くしてもらったと思う。沢山のカンザスの魅力を教えてくれたお礼に、ホストファミリーに簡単な日本語を教えてあげたり、大原美術館など倉敷の良いところも伝えた。また、日本食を振る舞った。感謝の気持ちを込めて頑張って作った。両ホストファミリーとも、本当に僕との時間を大切にしてくれ、僕の話に耳を傾けてくれ、とてもすばらしい時間を過ごすことが出来たと思っている。また、初めは少し遠慮ぎみだったが、気がつけば自分から沢山のことを話していた。
ホストファミリーを始め、カンザスの人とは、国・生活習慣・文化・言葉、多くが異なるが、優しい想いや温かい心は、皆同じなんだと改めて感じ、Welcomeパーティでは、感謝・寂しさのあまり涙で歌が歌えなかった。Good-byeパーティでも、終わりに近づくにつれて、涙があふれ出してきた。この経験は僕に、すばらしいこと、大切なことなどたくさんの意味のあることを教えてくれた。人生の中で一番感動的な時間を過ごせたと思う。そんなすばらしい機会を与えてくれた倉敷市の方、頼りがいのある引率のMr.ベンソン、沢山の思い出をくれたホストファミリー、両親に感謝している。
