ASHLAND - Ashland USD 220 isn’t saying much about former Superintendent/Principal Calvin Jones, who left abruptly this month.

The resignation was tendered and the Board of Education accepted the resignation in a special meeting on April 11. It was effective immediately, according to school board member Jeremy Fast.

The district is not at liberty to discuss confidential employment matters, Fast said, although he acknowledged there had been complaints.

“The complaints that were received were investigated and handled pursuant to the policies and procedures of the board,” Fast said.

Jones was not going to return next school year, and USD 220 advertised for a new superintendent/junior high-senior high school principal before Jones’ departure. Valley Center’s assistant middle school principal and athletic director Jamie Wetig has been hired as Ashland USD 220′s superintendent for 2016-17.

USD 220 has experienced changes at the top in recent years. Brian Pekarek was superintendent for two years, and he was followed for 2016-17 by Jones.
