Just days ago I was wondering which would be the first city/country to ban diesel cars. Here we are. A hard decision, I'm sure, but a necessary one. This is leadership.

Every day I see more grown adult men use emojis. There is no excuse for this. Emojis are for children and women. Do you think your great grandfather would have been caught dead using emojis if the internet existed back then? Have some self respect for God’s sake.
And I'll add this: engineers worked on all of this. On the data capture systems, on the algorithms to categorize their fellow citizens, on the social networks used to share the misinformation. If you don't question the ethics of what you do, who are you?
An important watch. This should be shared far and wide to remind people of two key things:
1) Data is extremely powerful and being used to manipulate us. Social networks like Facebook have the power to change the course of history, and will continue to if unchecked.
2) Vote

Because this got retweeted by a Trump support bot that doesn't understand sarcasm, I'll be clear: this is an appalling use of money.
Instead, use $ for education. Build a system that will educate a kinder next generation, and prevent jerks like Trump from ever getting to power.
These tax dollars could probably have fed a bunch of people, but then the grown men and women of the police in Moundsville wouldn't have a new domestic war toy to scare their 10k citizens with, would they?
Also, *very cool* car for that next halloween Ghostbusters cosplay

I don't know why people are still surprised by Zuckerberg's decision-making. As an android, he is completely disconnected from humanity's puny problems like political oppression. It's been 15 years since he lost his empathy module at a harvard frat party.
Been looking at this cursor for a while now, because my luck and privilege make it impossible to fully understand how agonizing it must be to live in constant fear. But I do know on which side of this issue I stand. Fuck racism and the brutality we are all being witnesses of.
This is astounding. Certainly blows away the ‘people here won’t ride bikes’ argument.
There is absolutely no reason this can’t be so in other major cities across the UK. If we choose to enable it. And right now is the time to do so. There will never be a more appropriate time.

Westminster today, around 1.30pm.
Simply incredible numbers on bikes, more than I’ve ever seen in rush hour, and from all ages and backgrounds.
If this is the new normal, we could have cleaner air, safer streets, a healthier population. A silver lining perhaps...
An alternative title could be "zombie overlord wants in on your porn preferences, but you can't look at his because he is a politician". How's 1984 looking right now, folks?
In about 2 hours I'll be live with @zamith for one of @subvisual's Live Talks. I have no idea how I can be a follow-up to greats like @sasajuric and @ChrisKeathley but I'll do my best to not disappoint. See you then?
Okay, hear me out: what if we *do* live in a simulation and the universe expansion is just the civilization running it adding more hamsters on wheels to increase processing power?
An engineer implemented this. They read the spec (I guess the title was "Create fake macOS password prompt to steal passwords") and said "oh I can pick up this task". If you work for a company and never question its ethics, question your own.
Oh, and
Friends making products, at agencies, startups: if you do agile, how do you interleave design and engineering? How do you make it so that you're not doing is just waterfall in disguise? Any tools you particularly love?
Current tools for video conferencing are too business-oriented. Regular people need to connect remotely too, now more than ever. This would be a good time for devices like Apple TV to support USB webcams and FaceTime.
Super excited to finally watch the Devs premier today. Alex Garland has consistently worked on movies that make you think and imagine potential futures. I can't wait to see what he does with a tv series as his platform.
The amount of people who could have stopped this is staggering, and yet here we are. Between whoever struck the deal, to the project manager that didn't say "WTF?", to the engineers who implemented it, you're all actual scum.
Friends, let's say you're interested in learning something new, as a hobby. Doesn't matter what, really. What's your favorite resource? Is it youtube? More in-depth sites? Books? Looking for inspiration. Thank you

You have tech in place that detects I'm in the EU and shows me this message. How about using it to detect I'm in the EU and (hear me out) skip serving privacy-breaking tracking code that violates GDPR? Maybe even do that for everyone!
I need fresh content for when I'm doing stuff around the house. Send me your recommendations for podcasts or even Youtube channels, please and thank you
A tragedy in two paragraphs. Starts off well but crashes and burns faster than you can say “stop tweeting”.

#facebook is embedding tracking data inside photos you download.
I noticed a structural abnormality when looking at a hex dump of an image file from an unknown origin only to discover it contained what I now understand is an IPTC special instruction. Shocking level of tracking..
10x engineers
Founders if you ever come across this rare breed of engineers, grab them. If you have a 10x engineer as part of your first few engineers, you increase the odds of your startup success significantly.
OK, here is a tough question.
How do you spot a 10x engineer?
Hey, what did people expect from a company with that odd, pushy onboarding process? Not surprised, and frankly, quite glad I skipped this BS altogether.

Nothing else. I don't want fancy news, or notifications, or email. It's not sound? Sorry, doesn't go on this magical, theoretical iPod. Make it, I'll buy it.

When people ask you for a great example of how power corrupts, you can show them this story about how Facebook has gone completely off the rails. Some of this stuff is unbelievable.
"We don't use data from Portal to show you ads"... "Wait, haha, of course we do, we're Facebook – we take that back! Here are some ads based on who you just called. Oh, and nice kitchen you have, by the way - not that we're snooping or anything!"
