The alternative is paying thousands of dollars for 1 to 10 character long precomputed rainbow tables: project-rainbowcrack.com/buy.htm project-rainbowcrack.com/charset.txt project-rainbowcrack.com/table.htm which aren't even complete for 8,9,&10 characters long I think.
