Grieder: Harris County voters defy GOP efforts to suppress the vote
The early voting period for this year’s election began on Tuesday, and Texans have been turning out in droves by historical standards.
It raises the question of whether state GOP leaders, who seem to view greater voter participation as a threat to their grip on power despite declarations to the contrary, have forgotten how to suppress the vote?

Harris, Dallas and Travis counties all reported record turnouts for the first day of early voting, with Harris County smashing its previous high mark. More than 128,000 of the county’s registered voters turned out Tuesday, compared to the 68,000 who did so on the first day of early voting in 2016.
