Guiney, who announced her decision in an email January 18, said she will leave the post in July.

Before becoming superintendent, Guiney was the district's director of curriculum, a position she took on in January 2008.

"As the superintendent search begins to unfold and the proverbial baton is passed, it will be business as usual in our schools," Guiney said in the statement. "There is still so much to do as we move forward in the second half of this school year."
