Dorms and Activities Updates 8/18/2020

Follow-up back to school announcement:

Osiyo, and welcome back to the 2020-21 school year. We are looking forward to a safe return on August 24. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sequoyah High School recently announced a return-to-school plan based on safety measures guided by recommendations from our health experts and administration to prevent the spread of COVID-19 virus within our school community. Under this safety plan, every student will have the option of attending as a virtual student if they and their parents so choose.

Our plan includes students attending in-person classes one day a week during an initial orientation phase as follows: Freshmen on Mondays, Sophomores on Tuesdays, Juniors on Wednesdays and Seniors on Thursdays. Fridays will be reserved for students or parents needing specific services by appointment only.  We will run our regular bus routes. However, students will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms before entering the bus and must wear a mask while on the bus.  Please contact us ASAP if your child intends on riding one of our bus routes.  Our dormitory will remain closed until further notice.

Also, to protect against mass gatherings and to practice social distancing, the Sequoyah Football season is canceled and other extracurricular activities are temporarily postponed while we monitor COVID cases in our area.

At the start of the school day, all students will be screened upon entering the main building each day and as students enter and exit throughout the day.  We will limit the number of students in each classroom and will take other precautionary steps such as eating in classrooms to help mitigate the risk of contracting or spreading the virus. All students, faculty and guests will be required to wear masks on all school property.  Our maintenance staff and others will be doing additional sanitizing throughout the entire campus multiple times each day and every evening.

We are striving for all of us to have a safe and productive learning environment this school year as we navigate through these challenging times. While times are difficult and many uncertainties exist one thing remains the same, Sequoyah School is committed to maintaining our reputation as the “School of Choice.” Please contact us if you have specific concerns or questions.

Wado!
