Only a minority of the population wants independence. It's not exactly feasible either. HK is dependent on mainland fresh water, electricity, fresh fruits and vegetables. The Brits knew this, and thus had no choice but to return control of HK to China.

The Cultural Revolution was a mistake. White people need to stop idealising it.
