Academics don't get paid to write journal articles - instead *they* have to pay the publisher (in History in UK its approx £2k) to have their research open access. The system is broken...

History Channel has a lot to answer for. Decades of peddling bizarre conspiracy-theories and mainlining suspicion of government as seemingly innocuous entertainment. Who wants to do a Venn diagram of the people who took 'Ancient Aliens' seriously and anti-vaxxers and Qanon types?

Teaching starts tomorrow so obviously today was the day to reorganise all my photocopies and research material. Gives me a great sense of procastinatory satisfaction to write out labels for different folders: 'Anxieties', 'Violence', 'My Lai', 'Dum-Dum' etc etc
