Hello, this is Okumura from Fuji Dog Farm.
Yesterday, we reported on our crowdfunding achievement.
Today, I'm going to give you an update on our organization, Japan Animal Therapy Association, which runs the Fuji Dog Farm.
I would like to write this honestly to let you know more about us.
At present, there are three staff members working in shifts at Fuji Dog Farm, taking care of about 30 dogs. The chairman of our association, a part-time staff member and I are working four days a week to repair the dogs.
Although there are three of us, we are basically working alone, so we are not able to do enough repair work and dog care. It is also difficult for us to invite our customers, and the time of reopening is not yet determined.
We will do our best to invite everyone who supports us with a smile, so please wait a little longer.
The reason behind this project (*crowdfunding) is that our association has been affected by the new coronavirus and other factors, which have made it very difficult for us to operate.
All of the animal therapy activities we used to do over 400 times a year have been cancelled and we do not know when they will resume. We have also been forced to refrain from fundraising activities in the streets. If we look at just these point alone, the situation is very negative for us.
On the other hand, there are also very positive aspects.
It's about the "people" who work in this world of animal care.
Before this project started, we had more than twice as many full-time staff members as we have now, but now we have less than 10 staff members, including part-time workers.
These people are ones that have agreed to stay in this organization, even if the situation continues to be difficult, remaining to operate at a higher level, not just loving animals but being eager to evolve our activities as an NPO.
To be honest, our organization is short on people, but I am hoping that we can build a more productive and dynamic organization in the future and that we are at the start of the new phase.
Some of our staff members who have been with us in the past have had problems with the involvement with the dogs and we discovered their inappropriate use of donated supplies. There were many other problems in various respects, but we have thoroughly managed and made improvements, which are still ongoing.
In fact, many problems have been found in Fuji Dog Farm as well, and we have been trying to solve them ever since.
As an organization that treats animals and engages in welfare activities, I was filled with self-reproach and frustration.
Dogs that have been unjustly multiplied.
Former staff members, who instead of putting the lives of those dogs first, acted selfishly, and acted inappropriately as a member of a non-profit organization.
The former chairman of the board of directors, who continued to be driven by self-interest, defaulting in the payment of over 5 million yen in medical bills for the dogs with a total of more than 35 million yen in debt.
(*We received a full donation from our veterinary clinic.)
The previous regime's senior management, who took no action to all these problems.
(*Some board members and their spouses have donated over 10 million yen to the organization)
When I think of all the dogs and people left behind, I painfully become aware every day that I must take this world more seriously.
I deal with a lot of dogs every day. They are all pure and innocent and loving.
Unlike humans, dogs are always honest. We must never betray them, and I will do my best to make them happy.
During this crowdfunding project, many of the therapy dogs and career-changing dogs have been welcomed into new homes.
We get reports from their owners about their later lives. They all look happy.
There are many dogs still living in the association, and we want to make as many of them happy. It is our policy to reduce the number of dogs in the association to the minimum number, where we can thoroughly take care of each of dogs and carry out the therapy activities.
We believe that it is not appropriate to own so many dogs while we cannot give them enough love to each one. So when we think about the "happiness" of each and every one of our dogs, we would like to make it a priority to find a loving owner to welcome them.
If you are interested in adopting our dogs, please contact us for more information.

Thank you for reading this long passage.
I wanted to share my honest feelings about the current state of the association after this crowdfunding project.
The world is still unsettled with the pandemic, but we hope to turn this crisis into an opportunity and do our best.
We will be grateful if you could continue to support us.
