DEXTER, Ore. – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a small brush fire in Dexter, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies said they learned of a fire near the frisbee golf course at about 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
The fire was in a wooded area near the 39000 block of Highway 58. It was about 5 feet in diameter. Two people playing frisbee golf put out the fire.
A man was seen leaving the area in a minivan shortly before the fire was found.
The sheriff’s office investigated the fire.
Jonathan Maas, 44, of Springfield was arrested on Thursday. He faces a charge of first-degree arson.
Deputies said the fire had potential to spread quickly, and thanked the community members who spotted the fire and put it out before it could hurt anyone or damage any structures.
The incident is not related to the Holiday Farm Fire in the McKenzie area.
