The launch of

's first phase of mainnet is an important milestone towards this opportunity.

will incorporate a novel liquidity provision model that leverages a mixture of AMM for price discovery and open, efficient order books while the oracle...

...and web3 creating a layer on top that allows us to now attach assets (and thus commitments) to these messages, then markets on p2p based predictions on literally anything will be a if not the killer consumer use case in this 3rd generation of the web.

If you think of the web in it's 1st and 2nd generation essentially being a network that allows us to share information 24/7 and globally/cross-border with messaging (e.g.

) clearly being one of the killer use cases...

We also realized along the way, that there is a big misconception around prediction markets in general among a lot of people in crypto. The opportunity goes way beyond just use cases like online betting or gambling and their respective market sizes today.

It was just too slow & expensive for what they had in mind, so

and

@JasperGooijer

decided to set out and build that very piece of infrastructure for open and scalable markets themselves. With

@NEARProtocol

they also found the perfect home for that.

In the very first iteration of

@fluxprotocol

they wanted to build a derivatives market for private companies/startups on

) they realized that this was just not feasible on the existing protocol stack.

Behind the scenes this is probably my favorite story in defi, of two founders who are just persistent, relentless, determined and continued to build regardless of what all the naysayers have told them along the way.
