USB flash card reader for 2.2 kernels?

Hi,
I've got a RedHat 6.2 system updated to kernel 2.2.24. The usb-storage
module doesn't support most modern USB card readers, it appears. I have a
PQI Travel Flash card reader, and although the Travel Flash is recognized,
linux thinks my CF cards are always write-protected. I need to be able to
read/write CompactFlash cards with this system, somehow.

Can someone recommend a current model of card reader that would still work
with a 2.2 kernel? From running "strings" against the module, it appears
the following card readers are supported:

Sandisk Imagemate (SDDR-01 and SDDR-31)
Hagiwara FlashGate SmartMedia
Y-E Data Flashbuster-U
Shuttle eUSB MMC Adapter

I guess I would need something with a chipset that was backward compatible
with the older chipsets found in the above devices. For example, would a
newer Sandisk Imagemate reader work? I realize the 2.2 kernel is old, so
please don't say "you must upgrade to a 2.4 kernel"; I'm well aware of the
excellent USB device support in the 2.4 kernels.
I Googled and found that a bunch of people had success with the SDDR-31, but
I'd like to know of a current model I could go get a CompUSA or Microcenter
or such.

Thanks for any ideas.

-Jonathan

Redhat ? SuSE ? Another one ? [back port of existing drivers for more recent kernels] There might be no drivers available for kernel 2.2.x for your bcm5752. As far as I could see there are drivers for 2.4.31 and 2.6.12. You could back port e.g. the 2.4.31 driver into 2.2.14. Probably that's what you already tried to do ... If yes, what error is issued ? All in all back porting might become a nightmare because with more recent kernels internal structure might have changed (especially from major kernel releases like 2.2 to 2.4 or 2.6 ...). What do you mean by Linux 6.2, there is no such thing. Do you mean Redhat 6.2? If so you are out of your mind trying to install a 5 year old distribution, it won't support any modern hardware. Use a current distribution, the latest free Redhat is Fedora Core 4. If you want a free version of the Redhat Enterprise product then download CentOS 4.1 (it's a free clone of Redhat Enterprise 4). Supported USB 2.0 pci card in 2.6 kernel
I'm looking for a cheap USB 2.0 pci card that is well supported in the Linux kernel. I've tried to use a no-name Via card and I have not been able to get it to work (ehci-uid recognizes the card, but it won't accept any usb devices that I plug into it). I have a dvd burner in a USB 2.0 enclosure, and I would to use it at full speed. Performance of NFS much lower on Linux kernel 2.6.17 then on Linux kernel 2.6.3?
Maybe somebody can help me with this problem: I export several directories from a Novell server and mount them on a Linux machine to have some remote backup and storage facilities. A few years back I have installed a Mandrake 10.0 box with kernel 2.6.3 and after some tinkering the NFS performance was about 3.5 MByte/s on a 100 Mbps full duplex interface card. The FTP performance to and from that same Mandrake box was about 7 MByte/s. This year I upgraded my hardware and I installed Mandriva 2006 using kernel 2.12.12 on the Linux machine. Using exactly the same mount options I get...

PS/2 and OS/2 #2
Hi ! This is, finally, *in topic* ;-) I've got too many "off topic" warnings ;-) I've got a working copy of OS/2 warp 4 (thank you, guys !). In the doc is said that minimum requirement is Pentium 100. I can put it in my 8595-ONG with TurboChip only :-( Do you have a table that summarizes PS/2 models, the OS/2 version that can be installed and sys requirements ? In other word, for example, which version can be installed on a Model 80-386 ? What is the minimum ram ? Do you ever tried OS/2 2.1 for windows ? 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 or pow(2, 4)?
Hi , I hope this isn't too trivial to ask, but I'm evaluating a polynomial that involve lots of terms like x^2y^2z^3, and although I can use the power function pow(a, b), I wonder if just writing x*x*y*y*z*z*z for example wouldn't be more efficient than pow(x, 2)*pow(y, 2)*pow(z,3). booting fedora core 3 (Kernel 2.6) from USB Card Readers
I want to install FC3 on a machine with no CD-ROM. I have a universal USB card reader with a 16M MMC card. I want to load stage1 and then proceed to install from my local server via NFS or FTP. In order to do this I tried the boot.iso file from the images folder in the RHFC3 CD#1: dd if=boot.iso of=/dev/sde1 Then umount the card reader and plug it to another computer to make sure is "bootable". I get "Missing Operating System". So I tried the diskboot.img file, same procedure as befreo. I get the missing OS message again. On both cases I can confirm the files are on the MMC card. Migration of OS/2 1.30 to OS/2 2.0 or newer
Hi all, what is the chance to upgrade an OS/2 1.30-system with LAN manager (ethernet with plain NetBIOS), a C-written frontend and a Sybase-SQL-server 1.1 to a newer OS/2-version? The system is installed on a FAT-drive, print-jobs are created by the C-frontend for LaserJet-printers and send directly to the LPT-port or a shared LPT-port on a print-server and several OS/2 1.3-clients access the database also via the C-frontend. I would perfer using WarpServer 4 based on Warp 3, or even just Warp 3 Connect/Warp 4 (without LVM, JFS etc., so WSeB, ACP, MCP or eCS are not an option) the whole infrastructure may not be needed anymore because only one person still works with the system!
