Let me clarify. I’m not opposed to your particular fetish. There’s an appropriate place for erotic material of all kinds.
The issue is that eroticization of women occurs EVERYWHERE - including places where it’s inappropriate. Like, you know, a fucking BLOOD DRIVE CAMPAIGN.

The sad thing is, I found this ad simply walking through Shinjuku Station on the way to have lunch w my family. That should give you pause to think about how rampant sexism is in Japanese society.

Ever had a blood transfusion? Or had a family member who had one in the process of saving their life?
I don’t think it is too extreme if people come in to donate blood, and that saves lives.
Try searching “宇崎ちゃん” and see all the people who donated and were happy to do so.

I think you’re missing the point.

Hmm I usually agree with most of what says.
But using anime characters for causes and so on in is a very Japanese thing. I of course do see the feminism angle, but the intention behind using these characters isn't usually sexual but for awareness.

They must be so used to see those manga girls with ridiculously exaggerated breasts all the time, so probably they did not think at all about it. They should have thought twice. As you say, absolutely inappropriate.

how is this image over-sexualized? looks like a standard Japanese cartoon to me.

Sadly par for the course with modern JP advertisement campaigns, and disappointing indeed given the value of the organization itself (of whose early history one can read about in our article on the The 1888 Eruption of Mount Bandai).

Anime is big in Japan so it makes sense why the Red Cross would exploit this to get blood donations. It just makes sense anime and doujinshi is big in Japan even if it’s somewhat-lewd
