「黒人さんが暴れてる」、「なにかあれば略奪しようとする」と授業中に発言した大学教員の解雇、大学での差別を防止するルールを求めます。

問題の発言：

「〔アメリカのBlack Lives Matter運動について〕私が略奪している人の動画とか写真とか見ている限りでは、白人はほとんどいなくて、やっぱりそれも黒人さんばっかりなんですよね。〔中略〕プエルトリコ人とか、あと茶色い人たち、あと混血でメスティーソみたいなかたちで混血で混じっている人たちとかそういうのも、何かあれば略奪をしようとする。実際はおそらく白人の人も略奪をやってると思うんですが、ほとんど動画で私見たことない」

「今アメリカ全土が北斗の拳みたいな状態になっていて黒人さんが暴れている… Black Lives Matterっていうので、黒人の生命っていうものは大事なんだって標語にして、あちこちで暴動とかを起こしたり略奪をどんどんどんどん繰り返している..」

これは日本大学文理学部で非常勤講師を務めている菊池肇哉氏が授業中に行った発言です。

（菊池氏は授業の際に「時事ネタ」の一環として新型コロナウイルスやアメリカにおけるBlack Lives Matter運動について言及しており、その際にマイノリティに対する偏見を助長する発言がなされていたのです。）

「黒人…プエルトリコ人とか、あと茶色い人たちが…何かあれば略奪をしようとする」

こんな発言、アメリカでは一発でアウトです。

特定の出自・属性をもつ人々を、「何かあれば略奪をしようとする」人と呼ぶのは紛れもなく人種差別です。

また、彼は他の日の講義で「武漢肺炎」という発言(注2)や、Black Lives Matter運動の裏に中国共産党がいるといった発言も行なっていました。

これら一連の発言が放置され続けることによって、受講するマイノリティ学生が被害を受けています。これ以上マイノリティの学生への被害が広まったら、大学はどう責任をとるのでしょうか？

日本では大学教員や政治家の差別が許されてしまっています。

他の大学でも教員や職員による差別が放置されてることで泣き寝入りしている被害者は大勢いると思われます。

これが普通なのでしょうか？

　違います。

世界ではBlack Lives Matter 運動に見られるように、若者が差別に対して声をあげています。

今の若い世代にとって、差別や不平等、不正義はもううんざりです。

もう差別に我慢しません。

私たちMoving Beyond Hate は差別に抗議するために昨年の11月に立ち上がりました。

今回の署名は、教員による差別に対して疑問をもったマイノリティの学生が現在Moving Beyond Hateのメンバーとして差別を公の場で告発したからこそ立ち上がったものです。

勇気ある学生の声を無駄にはしたくありません。

みんなで声を上げて、差別やハラスメントを許さない社会をつくっていきましょう！

私たちは以下のことを求めます：

菊池氏を雇用している日本大学は直ちに彼を解雇し、今後同様のことが起こらないようにあらゆる差別を禁止するルールを設けて下さい。

Toshiya Kikuchi, a part time lecturer at the College of Humanities and Sciences at Nihon university, made these discriminatory comments below during his lectures:

(In regard to the Black Lives Matter movement in the U.S)

“As far I have seen, out of the people who are looting, there are hardly any white people, and as I thought, it was all black people… Puerto Ricans, the brown people, and also people like mestizo, with mixed blood. Whenever they see an opportunity, they try to loot.
Currently, the whole of the U.S is almost like the anime Hokuto no ken (almost anarchy, where only violence rules). Black people are acting violently, creating havoc. They say that black people’s lives are important using the slogan ‘Black Lives Matter’, stirring up riots and repeatedly looting.”

 (Kikuchi commented on the coronavirus pandemic and the Black lives matter movement as examples of ‘current affairs’ and these comments that incite prejudice and hate were made in reference to these) 

There is no way that these comments are accepted in the U.S or in most parts of the world. 

This is clear and blatant racism. 

In the same lecture Kikuchi also referred to the ‘Wuhan virus’, and said that the Chinese communist party are behind the Black Lives Matter movement. 

This evidently incites hatred towards people of Chinese origin. (And is exactly why president Trump calling it ‘Chinese virus’ was so heavily denounced in the U.S)

Just imagine the impact these comments have on ethnic minority students and exchange students who also take these lectures.

Pain is being inflicted on these students. What is the university doing at the moment to stop this?

Nothing at all.

In Japan, racism and discrimination is often accepted as something that just happens. 

There are likely many students in other universities that have also experienced discrimination from lecturers and university staff. But the university is doing nothing to solve the problem!

But hang on... is this normal?

No.

Currently, young people are standing up to racism and injustice all around the world.

We’ve had enough! 

We stand with young people confronting racism, inequality and all forms of injustice around the world.

Moving Beyond Hate came together as a student group to challenge all forms of racism and discrimination in Japan.

This campaign began as a result of one student who questioned the lecturer’s comments. They contacted Moving Beyond Hate. 

One student stood up for their beliefs. We don’t want to let this courage go to waste. 

Please stand with us, and say NO! to racism and discrimination!

We demand the following:

The Firing of Mr.Kikuchi by Nihon university and Nihon university to implement anti-discrimination rules to ensure that this does not happen again.
