In Japan, production, sales and possession of child pornography are illegal. However since the law only applies to pornography related to real children and these factories and shops do not clearly claim that these are "child sex dolls", they are able to elude the law.

In Japan, law against child sexual abuse only applies children under 13 as they are considered "appropriate age" for sexual consents. Children above 12 are expected to fight against threats and violence done by rapists in order for them to justify that they did not agree.

In 2017, 19 yr girl was raped by her father and the lower court concluded that the fact that she was physically able to refuse him and she didn't, meant she agreed. Last year the father was finally sentenced with 10 yrs by the high court.
