If you’re an existing user and already have an Oculus account, you’ll have the option to log in with Facebook and merge your Oculus and Facebook accounts. If you’re an existing user and choose not to merge your accounts, you can continue using your Oculus account for two years.

After January 1, 2023, we will end support for Oculus accounts. If you choose not to merge your accounts at that time, you can continue using your device, but full functionality will require a Facebook account.

Giving people a single way to log into Oculus—using their Facebook account and password— will make it easier to find, connect, and play with friends in VR. Visit ocul.us/updates to learn more.

Someone in oculus rn is low key crying over this. This makes me want to use the service even less

I want nothing to do with Facebook. If this is your business decision, I will move to another platform & will not produce or support content on the Oculus platform.

Exact same here but shut mine down in 2018. This is a HARD no for me. Amazing how badly Facebook wants that personal data, isn’t it.

The Valve Index is especially looking nice today. My favorite feature is how it isn't trying to force me into the facebook monstrosity.

And with that, you just prevented me from buying Oculus Quest 2 and from developing on your platform. Not as big of an accomplishment as Facebook contributing to the demise of democracy, but congrats nonetheless.

I was so naive to believe when Facebook acquired Oculus that they would never require a Facebook account lol. I owned a DK1, a DK2, a CV1 and a Quest. Sad to hear this news, but I swapped over to Index this year and don't think I'll ever consider Oculus again at this point.

Can I get a refund on all my Oculus purchases since when I bought them you said I wouldn't have to do this? Serious question I will keep asking until answered. I don't want to have to link my FB profile to my VR profile.

This is a really bad product decision. You'll loose a lot of customers with that. It just makes no sense. I don't want all the Facebook "friends" on my Oculus account. To connect a Steam account makes more sense. Sadly, this will be the final coffin nail to a great technology.

Unfortunately though I think I'll close has the Monopoly on the cheaper side of the are as literally every other decent VR set only markets to like power Gamers with lot of extra disposable income

Yuck. I don't think you'll have many customers jumping up and down about this decision (but I know you know that already). There is a wide cross section of people who own VR devices and actively do not want Facebook accounts.

Thought the same thing when I saw that. I was going to be picking up a VR a headset in the near future too, they just cut themselves out of the running for me.

Thanks for letting me know not to buy any new games & that I have 2 years to sell my Quest. I no longer use Facebook. If that's a pre-req to owning your products, I'm done with your companies VR stuff in the future.

This is horseshit. Our company will not buy another Oculus product. I absolutely will not force my staff to have facebook accounts to do client work.

What if I don't want a Facebook account ever? How can we opt out? Just create a bullshit Facebook account with a fake name and never actually use it?
