The butcher of Tel Al-Zaatar, William Hawi, with the fascist traitor Amine Gemayel, with Phalangist troops at the siege of Tel al-Zaatar. August 12 marks the end of the siege, which left up to 3,000 Palestinian refugees dead at the hands of the Kataeb Party and Lebanese Front.

Syria also fought the Zionists and the Phalangists at other points and sided with the PLO/LNM/LNRF at various points, such as the Siege of Beirut and the Mountain War. They were also responsible for destroying Hezbollah's first headquarters at Fathallah Barracks.

This is to show the role that Syria regrettably played in the Tel al Zaatar siege, not to bash Syria or the Syrian forces in Lebanon. It's well known Hafez had an on/off relationship with the PLO, especially with Arafat, who despised each other.

Phalangist Militias with the Butcher William Hawi "celebrate" during their slaughter and pillaging of the Tel al-Zaatar camp.

The Butcher William Hawi and the Fascist Traitor/Zionist Agent Bachir Gemayel inspecting Kataeb Party militias, sometime in 1976. The same militia would be involved the the butchery of at least 2,000 Palestinians.

Should be noted that the Damour massacre was, in part, a response to the siege of Tel al Zaatar (and the Karantina Massacre). The PLO would resettle Palestinian survivors of the siege in Damour. When Arafat visited the widows in town, he was pelted with stones and rotten fruit

"To those who have made the epic of steadfastness in Tal el-Zaatar" from the Arab Socialist Union in Lebanon.

"Tel Al-Zaatar is the embrace of heroism and martyrdom" by Muaid al Rawi and published by Fatah. The woman in frame was not a trained fedayi of any faction but took up arms to struggle right alongside them.

What is also important to note was the involvement Syria had in the siege. It is disputed to what extent it really impacted the besieging forces, but it came at a time during a low point in relations between the PLO and Syria (1976). Syria gave support to the LF during the battle

The fascist Lebanese Front besieged the camp in January and prevented any aid from reaching the Palestinians. PLO fighters from all factions (Fatah, PFLP, PFLP-GC, DFLP, as-Saiqa, ALF) fought valiantly against the aggressors. Pictures of combat during the siege.

Should add: this was at the site where George Hawi was assassinated, allegedly by Syria. Jumblatt and Hariri are both anti-Syrian figures and both of their parents were (and I must stress this part) allegedly assassinated by Syria.

Today the PFLP considers itself part of the resistance and Habash sent letters of solidarity to Hezbollah and Nasrallah. I do think their solidarity with Saddam was a mistake, even if I can understand the logic behind it.

During the war with Iran he took a firm pro-Iran stance against the Iraqi invasion, sending letters of solidarity with Khomeini and the Iranian revolutionaries. It was only after Saddam's adventure in Kuwait and the subsequent US-led intervention that he showed solidarity.

Habash's relationship to Saddam was never as great as his relationship to other governments such as Syria. He often criticized Iraq for being too moderate on the international stage, trying to "bridge the gap" between the "radical" and "moderate" Arab countries.

Important to note that this was during/after the Gulf War, when the PFLP took a pro-Iraq stance (along with the rest of the PLO) against the international coalition. It's indeed true that the PFLP would later show solidarity with the "Martyr" Saddam Hussein in 2006.
