my dad was drafted in this war. though he was never in direct action on the battlefield the stories he tells me are absolutely terrifying & gut wrenching. i feel blessed that my dad is still alive today.

Both my parents lost a brother during the Iran-Iraq war. My mom’s brother was captured as a POW and was never heard from again. Every year since and until her death, my late grandmother made a cake on his birthday holding onto hope that he was alive and well.
