it’s bleak—and it’s largely why i have become increasingly critical of this bizarre, obsessive trivialisation of the work those of us in diaspora do. we’ve a right to remain engaged and a right to amplify the voices of our people.

do you know how little hope there is for a country where the educated, literate, and qualified professionals, get on tv and stand up in classrooms, to parrot the same oppressive and revisionist lies that the ignorant and fascist clerics have done for centuries? imagine that.

the things i’ve vocalised in postgrad classrooms has literally had my agemates incarcerated, exiled, or killed in turkey (and elsewhere). it’s a really postmodern way of controlling public knowledge...the increased accessibility of education became a crucial propaganda tool.

it’s actually a privilege to be an academic and/or student in a country where freedom of speech and education (despite its relative limitations) has survived long enough to permit vocal dissent of research + publications. the ability to challenge ideologies is taken for granted.

today marks the 6th anniversary of the #yezidigenocide. i have still not found the words to express just how painful the events which unfolded in 2014 have been. we can only fight the good fight and give what we can: nadiasinitiative.org there’s so much healing to be done.

the best part about this entire headline is that the only surviving prosecutor of the nuremberg trials, ben ferencz, literally called america’s separation of children from their parents at the us-mexico border, ‘a crime against humanity’.

as the nazis said during the nuremberg trials, ‘befehl ist befehl’

meat consumption, especially under capitalism, can’t be ethical. it’s an entitlement we have over another species’ body. it’s an ultra vires decision we make, to take the life of another. it’s really just textbook speciesism, and every meat eater participates in it differently.

however, my meat consumption is ethical. the animal actually approaches me of its own free will and gives me informed consent to kill it, with a weapon of its choice.

it’s the sixth anniversary already, and even after another sixty anniversaries, i still won’t forgive the people who played any role in the death, destruction and enslavement of the yezidi people. the yezidi genocide is a stain on humanity. i am embarrassed to be human.

tomorrow is going to be a very painful day. yezidi girls and women remain to be in captivity—those buried en masse have not even been discovered and their bodies haven’t been returned to their families. an entire generation of people, still facing deep trauma. #YezidiGenocide
