Just read about the famines that’s killed dozens of people in north west/central Afghanistan. Politics in Afghanistan in those days (and even today) was about Pashtun dominance and non Pashtun status as guests or 2nd class citizens. The gov was very biased towards non Pashtuns

It’s a good story invented by nationalists but completely false. Before the wars Afghanistan was as bad as it is today, majority of the citizens were illiterate and poor, country had 0 infrastructure and the government provided no services for its citizens.

You see many people are of the believe that Afghanistan was a prosperous state before the wars, that started in 1979. Wars that they believe were funded by our “jealous” neighbours, who ignited the ethnic issues in our country.

For someone who is ignorant of the politics and history of Afghanistan will easily get influenced by this. Now it is true, the problems will not straight away fix themselves as soon as the name change occurs, but it will be a step in the right direction.

I am sure that many of us who have ever mention or put forward the idea of name changing the country to khorosan, have heard this response. “Changing the name will not fix our problems” or “other countries have reached the moon, yet our people are discussing this”.

Afghan govt convenes a Loya Jirga — grand council of elders — to decide on the fate of 400 prisoners Taliban demand their release. The Jirga starts on 7th of August, will last between 3-5 days, according to state tv.

In fact, Microsoft are in talks to acquire TikTok (to allow it to continue operations whilst distancing it from Chinese influence) and Instagram/Facebook are releasing their own TikTok like app this month.
