SnapshillBot is a bot that archives posts in subreddits that the mods have requested the bot to run in. It uses a variety of different archiving services such as archive.is, archive.org, megalodon.jp, and for reddit links, Ceddit.
The bot only posts on subreddits where the moderators have requested its presence. Have more questions? Check out the faq and if that doesn't answer your question, make a post.
Requests for adding subreddits are currently being suspended. We'll try to update you on the status of requests soon.

This is not an explanation to those who provide content to subreddits why this snapshot has been taken. This is an explanation of why the mods want it.
Suggestion: Kindly explain the benefit to the content poster and the sub as a whole in better detail.
This looks just a bit "AAAH took your picture, now we got you!"
That really depends on the subreddit itself and the reasoning for wanting the bot to post on the subreddit is usually to archive ephemeral content.
For subreddits like /r/SubredditDrama and /r/Drama, the reasoning is for the user to be able to see the linked drama after the posts have been removed or a lot of time passes, where links end up succumbing to link rot, and this content is in subreddits where the content is links to other places which may eventually fade. The snapshots provide a benefit in that scenario.
While not all of the subreddits have the same reasoning, most subreddits have a variation of this or another.
archive ephemeral content
Totally mistook myself. You created the bot, it's not your responsibility to explain the implementation. The mods should (and may have) explained in better detail.
BTW, I am not taking offense you put this out. I wish you could build an anti brigading bot or monitor. That is what is killing Reddit, not crap posts.

/u/TotesMessenger does notify users when their posts are linked to from another place on reddit. We also have a subreddit for that bot as well (/r/TotesMessenger).
Thanks again for this.
What I found in r/NYC was that the speed at which downvoting and gibberish contrarian one or two sentence posts would come was lightening fast. Not some organic motion of an opposition sub.
I mean I really looked through all the major suspect subs and I think the coordination is taking place off Reddit. Not for all dumb downvotes, I mean it's Reddit I get it. But for anything related to Trump it is noticed by the heavier users, less by many mods.

Nope, you're fine. Sometimes the archive sites don't work correctly (archive.is is sometimes a tough one since it uses CloudFlare, and some of the other ones have their own issues).
If you click the link provided (on posts that have an asterick), it'll open up a page where you can submit the link and copy and paste the link for others.
I love you /u/SnapshillBot
Hi jc393
What's the story with quote folders being hosted in the wiki here?
I thought they used to be hosted in the individual subreddits where the bot was posting (i.e. /r/subredditname/wiki/tumblybot)
If I wanted to use specific quotes in SRC (for example) would I have give you the quote list or something? How does that work? Or can you create a page and give edit permissions to specfic people? Is that how you usually do it?
Also I've noticed some occasions where snaphill doesn't include snew/ceddit links when linking to other reddit pages. Is this deliberate?
P.S. Love the bots. Keep up the good work.
Heya. Those quotes are hosted for /u/ttumblrbots, a different bot. I have no involvement with them, even if we had the same goals.
I can create a wiki page and add all of the moderators (plus whoever you'd like) if you want so you can edit it at your leisure.
If you're able to make a quote page for r/subredditcancer and give me editing permissions that would be great thanks.
edit: what are the formatting requirements for the page?
yeah give me about an hour or so. do you want the other mods to have editing perms as well? format is this (the spaces aren't required):
flavor text 1
---
flavor text 2
---
flavor text 3
Just add me and u/SubRedditCancerMods for now.
Thanks btw.

#1: MarchAgainstTrump drops a 'T' from their name and creates new sub to evade /r/all filters. Hits front page with 26 subscribers. Reddit admins when will you openly address this problem? | 167 comments
#2: /r/politics mods are censoring any mention of the special needs man kidnapped and tortured by 4 blacks for supporting Trump and being white. Purging hundreds of threads, this is disgusting behavior from a default sub. | 90 comments
#3: r/politics removed anti-Hillary post for using all caps in one word that is also in all caps in the original headline (at 600 upvotes, 90% upvoted). Meanwhile you can change the word describing Trump from "jerk" to "jackass" in a headline and it makes it to the very top without being removed! | 45 comments

Why is this bot snapping anything negative or realistic about cryptocurrencies like bitcoin? Here's an example: https://www.reddit.com/r/Buttcoin/comments/79f69w/bitfinex_never_repaid_their_tokens_bitfinex/ Bitfinexed is starting to have compelling evidence that tether's are not backed by US dollars and anyone who trades on an exchanges dealing with USDT are in risk of loosing money. How can you support this bot downplaying such risks? And before you start calling me a shill I believe in blockchain adoption just like the guy bitfinexed does however bitfinex and tethers are a real concern for this space.
Did you try reading even a single word of the post you are replying to?
You mean this thread or the bitfinexed article? Can you just explain why this bot decides to snapshot posts like the ones made by bitfinexed?
I saw this bot posting in /r/SubredditDrama (https://www.reddit.com/r/SubredditDrama/comments/71sx28/psa_to_motorists_breaks_down_into_a_slapfight/) where it said, in the root of the thread (ie. in response to the title): "You're oversimplifying a complex situation to the point of adding nothing to the discussion."
Surely the point of that sub is to simplify a complex situation while adding nothing to the discussion.
