Houston-based Uncle Ben’s to evolve its brand after Pepsi ditches Aunt Jemima

For 70 years, a black man’s face smiled from boxes of Uncle Ben’s fast-cooking rice.

The name and the image, rooted in slavery and servitude, now appear to have succumbed to the waves of protests against racial injustice roiling the county. Mars Inc., owner of Houston-based Uncle Ben’s, said Wednesday it was going to “evolve” the brand.
